DNA Testing Of Gabriel Wright Descendants

If the paper trail is correct, one of my 6th great grandfathers is Gabriel Wright. He was supposedly born about 1747 in Scotland or Wales, married Deborah Ball about 1762 in New Jersey, moved to Virginia, then to Kentucky, and eventually to the Chillicothe/Frankfort area of Ross County, Ohio, where he died in 1803. I am trying to locate male direct line descendants of Gabriel for DNA test comparisons with my uncle, who is a direct line Wright descendant, to verify lineage from Gabriel, and to see if any connection can be made to Clan MacGregor descendants regarding the family legend of our Wright branch descent from them as told in the book Four Revolutionary Soldiers and Their Descendants... by Eloise M. Roberts. If any male direct line descendants have taken, or would be interested in taking (at my expense), a Y-DNA test to see if a match can be made, please get in touch with me via Ancestry messaging or the email address below.

Thank you,

Dan Stone
stonefamilytree'avoid spam'mac.com (replace 'avoid spam' with @)

I am sure this has been answered long ago, but if someone new and a descendant of this family might wish to know the following/
Henry P Wright was born 24 Jul 1821 and was the son of Richard Wright b.1783 in Virginia (prob Halifax Co) and unknown Mother. The Wright family moved from Mecklenburg VA to SW South Carolina after the Revolution and on into Wilkes GA which later became Lincoln CO GA when that area was opened up to non-Native Americans. Sometime between 1810 and 1830 Richard moved to Giles Co TN and by 1850 to Lincoln Co TN.
There is a family Bible that lists the names and birthdays of all of Richard's children. I sent a copy of the original and a Transcription to the Tennessee Archives in 2011.

James WSright of Lincoln TN & Itawamba MS

There is little doubt that David J Wright b.1816 TN d.1860-1870 of Itawamba, Mississippi and married to Jeanette Ford was the son of Richard Wright (1783 VA – aft 1850 TN). We know this from the family Bible of Richard Wright passed down through many generations of one of his daughters. We know that David J Wright had a son James b.abt 1837 TN. It would appear this is the James Wright is the James Wright of Itawamba, Mississippi in 1860 and Lee Mississippi in 1870 married to a Rachel b.1833 AL. This family was possibly in Piney, Van Buren, Arkansas in 1880. Many people have listed this in various Family Trees. However most claim this was Dr James Wright who died in White, Arkansas in 1903. However there is not a shread of evidence that James Wright of Giles/Lincoln TN and Itawamba MS and Lee MS was a Doctor and clearly was listed as a Farmer in 1850, 1860, 1870 Census records. There is a “Doc” James Wright listed in the Find-A-Grave Records of White Co AK, but that James was listed as being born 1831.

I would appreciate any evidence that this is in fact the same person.
Thanks for this, Robert. I haven't logged in for quite a while (as you can tell from my late answer!). We'd love to know more about this family, if you can help. Tommy Wright was my husband's grandfather. Your grandmother would have been known as Minnie, is that correct? I've been able to find out a few bits and pieces about the family, but our picture is far from complete. If you can help fill in the gaps, you are welcome to email me directly - we'd be happy to share what we have!

Cheers,
OzJen

Hi,
I have Jane Conn born in Northern Ireland in the 1840s. Her parents were William Conn and Anne Wright. Jane had a brother possibly named Wright Conn. Jane Conn married John Troughton and they came to Illinois, USA in the early 1860s. Jane and John sometimes listed Portadown as where they were from. Jane is my great great grandmother.
I would really like to find out more about my roots.

Hi, my name is Neisha Wright. I am the wife of one of Ralston's children to his second wife. His name is Danny Wright. We have been trying to find out any information possible about Danny's father because his mother won't really tell us anything. If you have any information that could be helpful I would really appreciate it. I saw the picture you put on one of your posts and it is very familiar. You mentioned that one son died in 1973, would you be referring to Jr?

I have William in my database. I only have his wife Elizabeth, and one son, William Daniel Wright. Was Elizabeth Powe his mother? I also have that William Daniel Wright and his wife, America Jane "Nancy" West, are buried in Murphy Creek Cemetery in Louisville, Winston County, Miss. They had 4 children and they are also buried at Murphy Creek. Is that correct?

I believe that the William Wright on the same page as James Wright in 1850 is my line. He married Mahala Tyler and then Elizabeth Powe (Poe). William was dead by 1860 and Elizabeth moved with their four children to Fayette Co AL where the Poe family had settled. This Wright line eventually moved on to Oktibbeha Co MS and then to Pope/Conway Co AR.

was Roger L. Wright later adopted?

Nov.20,1956 my aunt Mildred Louise Redman gave birth to Roger L.Wright in Kern general hospital,Bakersfield, California.. She had him with her in 1960 when visiting with her brother in Malden ,Missouri.Only time I ever saw him
In 1963 she died from vehicle accident in Bakersfield California. At the time of her death she was going by Mildred Louise Robinson. She had been married to a B.H.Robinson.
My aunt was not close with her family. Quite frankly , she was of an unsavory reputation, having been inprisoned a great deal of her life.
There was no mention of Roger after she left Missouri. I have not been able to find an actual obituary that might mention Roger. My father did not learn of her death until 1989.Would like to find out what became of Roger.Could anyone in the Wright line be of any help?
As far as I can see, your William Wright is probably not a son of James Wright from Duplin, NC. James Wright's son, William is pretty well documented and he was born in 1783 in Duplin, NC and married Rachel Whitfield in 1806 and died in New Hanover, NC in 1842. I don't think that he made it to Georgia. Good luck in your search.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the information on the MacLaren Surname DNA Project, and the invitation to join. My uncle has joined the group, and it will be interesting to see what may turn up.

Best regards,

Dan
