I'm looking for information on the Wraight family -- specifically from Wayne County, New York and also in Michigan (Palmyra, Lenawee, Bloomingdale, Jackson, Etc.)

Specifically looking for given names of:
Richard, Charles Richard, Elizabeth, Malon, Fannie, Effie, Daniel, Elias, Ellin, Carolyn, Mary and Sabrina (Welch).

ALSO: I have quite a bit of information on my branch of the Wraight family, if anyone thinks they may have connections, or would like to ask me questions, please do...I'll be happy to share what I know with you!

My G-G-Grandmother was Nancy Wraight, I have her photograph and that of her husband, ??Wraight. Their birthdates would be in the mid 1800s. Their daughter, Adelaide Augusta married John Coakley and they emigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada, at the end ofthe 19th century. Alice was another daughter who came to Canada then.
This is the first search that has not asked me to try Wright. It is not a common name, and I'm happy to find it, even if we are not related. Please let me know if we are from the same branch of the TREE. Their photos were taken in Folkstone, England, by Watson.

Carole Ann --
I'm glad that you finally found Wraight on the internet! I know that it's frustrating and daunting to find our name anywhere! Seems to me that there are only three famous Wraights, and those are the only three people I seem to find when doing a search! I wish there was more information out there...
It's a good probability that we share the same roots on our family tree. I have only been able to trace my line back to my 3rd great grandfather Richard Wraight -- who was said to have come from England. Where and when he came to the U.S. are still mysteries to me. The earliest that I can find him is in 1840, residing in Wayne Co., N.Y. -- and there is another Wraight there, Thomas Wraight, who I theorize was likely to be Richard's brother or other close relative.
The name Alice Wraight is familiar to me, as I think I have seen some information on her on the internet. I also recall the Folkestone area of England.

I am always willing to discuss this subject further -- and I am dillegently trying to connect with other Wraights from all areas -- you never know who might be your relative -- especially with a name that gets mangled and mispelled as often as Wraight!

Feel free to contact me at wraight@who.net

Yes - it definitely is a rare name. According to some research I've done it is the 53,333 most popular name in the US. Which means that there are 53,332 names more common than Wraight here. My branch of the Wraight family came over from England in the Early 1800s, but that is as far as I have been able to trace.

Hope you enjoy England. I would love to move there!

To Linda Wraight:
My ancestors were from Folkstone,England and my g-g-grandmother, Adelaide Augusta Wraight came to Nova Scotia around the beginning of the 20th C. She had a sister Lucy who lived in N.S. with Adelaide, Mrs. John Coakley and their large family. I don't know of any other siblings. Their parents were John(?)and Mary Wraight. Could this be a connexion?
