David Wragge is the great-grandfather of my partner. You will find him living in
the 1901 census at 16 Camden Grove, Hulme, Manchester with his English family. Her grandmother was Dorothy Wragge who wasn't born until 1902.

Family stories say that David Wragge ran off to San Francisco in about 1909 and married someone else in Chicago later on. Can you tell me some more about Mary Lillian Beldon (your grandmother) e.g. what was her profession and how did she meet David Wragge? I would also be interested in any other stories you may have about David Wragge's life in the US.

David Wragge was the father of my grandma Jennie Wragge. She was born in Chorlton in 1908. David was married to Mary Ann McSheen. Jennie was the last of their children . I think they had 5 Edith being the first then Annie then I think they had 2 boys before my Gran was born . Shortly after she was born he went off on his travels so she never knew him . She used to talk about her dad going to San Francisco to make his fortune. I am wondering if this is the same David .

Hi Karen,

David Wragg had a number of siblings:

William James 1873-1951
Annie 1875-1960
John Joseph 1880-1953 (my grandfather)
Harry 1882-1894
George 1884-1957
Robert D'Alberge1888-1957
Emma Jame 1892-1961

Annie was a spinster and died in Manchester. I have her death certificate.
Emma Jane married in 1917. I am not aware that either of these sisters went to USA

Although the family was Wragg my grandfather changed the name to 'Wraige' I don't know where he got that from.

Hope this is of interest,

Douglas Wraige
