Hello...

I am also looking for Worthy's in Thomaston/The Rock Upson Georgia. I have a sneaky suspician that many of the African American Worthys in that region are related. Have you taken a DNA test yet? It's a really good way to get past some brick walls. If not, take it through 23andme.com. It's inexpensive and their database is huge! I have over 900 matches! Who knows...maybe you and I are related. Can you tell me more about your immediate family?

Karen

I was looking for information on my great aunt, Lilla Worthy and found this small series of posts. Roxie was her daughter. I am very sorry for their loss. Both were exceptional human beings.

My connection to Aunt Lilla comes as a result of my grandmother marrying William Caleb Robinson after her first husband died of pneumonia in the early 19
30's. Lilla was William's baby sister.

Aunt Lilla and her husband, Howard, owned a grocery store and a toy store in Oxford when I was young. This was the late 50's and early 60's. It was a joy when we visited from Baltimore, Maryland.

Aunt Lilla was my favorite aunt and one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to know.

I think if you just look up the project Gutenberg you will run into what says, a narrative of the project Gutenberg. Looks like there are more then one. The lady named Barbara J. Leigh wrote this query on ,Finding your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. on OPS (Oregon public Broadcasting) station and I'm not sure how you contact her but she is also looking for your Warren Worthy.. This is what she writes. I have been doing my family history since 1989 I found my fathers mother and father. I have been trying to find great grandfather Warren Worthy mother who is Charity Worthy who was b. in Maryland and who was parents she was b. in 1814 of 1815. I can not find anything of her parent. The only thing tht I know is that they were from Virginia. Don't know what part of Virginia or Maryland they came from. Art. I think if you go to the site, finding your roots you may be able to contact someone on this program that will lead you in the right direction in find this person. You may be able to help her.

I also found on the net, A Folk History of slavery in the U.S., interviews from former slaves. It's called Project Gutenberg and it does mention Warren Worthy.. you may want to look that up.
I am from Alabama also and am researching my husband's great, great grandmother Josephine Worthy. She was married to Lenard N. Worthy and lived in Haralson georgia in 1910. she disappeared off the map after 1910. I recently purchased a death certificate from Tuscaloosa county, Alabama that shows a Josephine Worthy death 11/15/1915. the only other information said she was in Woodstock when she died. Does this name many anything to you? The strange thing was there are no Josephine Worthy's on the 1900 or 1910 census of Tuscaloosa, alabama. since some of his people moved to Alabama I am trying to find out if this is his great great grandmother.

I am looking for info about a Jane Worthy. Benjamin Kimball (Kimbell, Kimbrell) was said to be married to a Jane Worthy. He lived in Warren County, NC. He had one son William Henry born 3 June, 1814 and died 6 July 1896. William Henry Kimball died in Moore Co., NC, which is now Lee Co. I don't have dates for Jane and Benjamin. Some people say Benjamin was married to Hannah Arnold who was born about 1898 and not Jane. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks - Lois

I've hit walls trying to find out more about the Worthy's from Upson Co. Ga, namely The Rock/Thomaston area. My great-grandfather was George Worthy, part black, part Native American from what I've been told. This Worthy line has ties into the Holloways, and Walkers, any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am trying to connect my g.g.g.g. grandmother Jane Worthy Hancock with one of the Worthy families in Chester County SC. In the 1840 census, Lewis Hancock, her husband, appeared about 4 HHs from Martin Worthy, but there were at least 3 Martin Worthys in Chester Co at that time. Any information about Jane's parentage would be appreciated. Debbie

Re: Carl Worthy - Kennerly / Langston

I am in the process of tracking down all posts with regard to a possible Kennerly / Langston connection in GA @1801 to ensure we get the most accurate info posted. The info posted speculates that Joshua Kenny and Joshua Kennerly could be the same person and that Joshua married Catherine Langston. The speculation is based on a supposed name change that could have occurred. However, evidence confirms that Joshua Kennerly and Joshua Kenny are two separate people who lived in GA at the same time and died within the same year.

Joshua Kennerly died in May 1801 as noted in the 20 June 1801 edition of "The Augusta Chronicle" and he left no will (died intestate) according to court records. Joshua Kenny wrote a will recorded in court documents in June 1801 and he died in Sept 1801. Both men left orphans and estates, which are noted in court records and, in some cases, their accounts were handled by the same people. The court documents can be confusing but sorted out logically. Further, there is no other evidence of a "name change" in any records anywhere - this was a guess for research to figure out and was not presented as fact; so, now we have eliminated a possible connection.

The newspaper evidence just came to light through records recently made available. I am in the process of tracking down all online inaccurate postings to ensure no one else gets their family lines confused. Finally and conclusively, DNA testing to date confirms the Kenny and Kennerly lines are separate.
I am not sure but I think you need to look into some other forms of the Worthy name such as Worthe, and a misspelled on Wrothe. The line goes way back and when the first immigrant came to America he might has changed it from Worthe to Worthy. I think it was also changed to Worth. I am currently researching Thomas Worthe b 1330. That might be a start. He is from England.

I am the granddaughter Zema Floyd worthy Sr and daughter of Zema F Worthy Jr. We are at a wall when it comes to going back even one generation...can you help? We also need info on possible native american background of Columbia Talitha Geneva Pace , the mother of the children you listed.( is there a connection) she married James Thomas Robert Worthy March of 1881.
who are the grandparents? The death certificate signed by his second wife Lela says don't know . All of the siblings and dates you mentioned match our family records. No one seems to be able to locate the family Bible. We have James Thomas Robert Worthy but marriage records say James A Worthy. They all grew up in Lee County,Alabama and Phenix City Alabama! There was a divorce and their father remarried to Lela Taylor they had children, Rudolph and Lessie.

Hi James I might be able to shed some light on James Worthy for you. I think you might have Jame's birth year wrong by one year though. George Worthy b.1803 Denton, County Durham married Eleanor Atkinson b.1804. They had 8 children, Thomas b.1828, Jane b.1830, Sarah Ann b.1832, William (my Great great grandfather) b.1834, Mary b.1836, John b.1838, James 1840 and Eleanor b.1840. Most of them were born at RedBriar (also known as Pity me and Borough House in the parish of Framwellgate) Framwellgate, County Durham. To the best of my knowledge James died between Jan and Mar 1924 in Auckland, County Durham. You might find the link below useful .http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/newsearch.php I have attached a jpg of the 1841 uk census that records James Worthy.
