My husband is Clifford Warwick sharples. His great grandmother was Minnie Sharples. Minnie did not immigrate to NZ with the rest of the family but her son, Clifford Sharples, immigrated with his grandmother Sarah Sharples. We believe Clifford's fathers name was Frank Reilly but this was not recorded on his birth certificate. Minnie is believed to have married Frank Alderson but we cannot find any record of this marriage.
Sarah sharples was married to Thomsa Sharples who had passed away before the family immigrated in 1920s. Have a look at our family tree for Thomas and Sarah descendants

Robert Woolford was a circus performer as were all his children including Charles.
Charles's sister Louisa is the most famous female performer of the time and Wedgewood created a figurine of her. Louisa married Andrew Ducrow - most famous circus performer and director at Astley's in London.
George woolford, their brother married into the Cooke circus family and went to USA.
His daughter married into the Loyal circus family.
I am also related through another brother Thomas Robert. Is there any family record or history of Charles and circus people in Australia?
Thanks
My Grandfather was William Henry Wolford. I am told that when he and my Grandmother were married, that the name Woolford was misspelled on the marriage license, and they decided to keep it that. The marriage took place in 1928 or 1929. I was told his Mother was full blooded Cherokee. He was a devout Christian man, and grew up ashamed of his family, so never spoke of them. I believe his Mother's name was Mary, but not sure. My Grandmother's maiden name was Miller. Anyone know anything about this, I would love to know.

This might sound confussing but I am looking for Lavinia & William Mortimore, they had 8 children, one of hume was William John Mortimore b1884 Mill Hill who married Sarah Jane Symons in 1909 who moved to Looe in 1910 they had 3 Children 1 being Betty Mortimore b1916 who married Richard G Woolford, in St Germans in 1954 and i believe they have a family. Lavinia died 12/1/1948 in Lamellion House, but is not buried in Liskeard, so where was she buried I was hoping some of her decendants might know, likewise her husband William James is his the death at Newton Abbot in 1938 cause that seems off their travelled track from Looe, to Menheniot, (William James was gardiner at Coldrenick House) to Liskeard/Lamellion. Then there is Betty's two brothers are they still in the area ?
So it decendants and inlaws I'm looking for. Know any of them. ?
Regards Vikki Mortimore

Are you trying to trace what happened to him after his marriage, or his ancestry?

My best guess is that he was the Richard G.

My Woolford great grandfather was born about 1870 In Seaford. His first name was Frederick. He had bro. Harrington, and a sister Sarah .They moved to Camden,NJ about 1900. Their father was born around 1840 was a sailor and served in the Civil War. Check the census' prior to the Civil War as many of the Woolford's were free people and their families are in the pre 1870 records. William Woolford (1840)came from a large family. His Father's name was Bartholmew and His grandfather's name was Thomas.Thomas is listed as 25yo in the first US Census 1790.They weren't rich but they were free people of color.

Re: Robert Woolford born abt 1801

From the 1851 Census of Chelsfield, Robert was age 62 born in Strutton Surrey, and Sarah was born in Tandridge Surrey age 64. The 1841 Census does not give the place of birth as Chelsfield, but does indicate a birth in Kent. Ages in the 1841 census are approximate, so "40" may not be exact. I would think that the 1851 data is more likely to be correct, i.e born closer to 1790 than to 1800.

The IGI gives likely baptisms of the children of Robert & Sarah:
Robert WOOLFORD 12 Jun 1814 in Shorne, Kent
James WOLFORD 18 Jun 1820 in Chelsfield, Kent
Richard WOLFORD 20 Feb 1825 in Chelsfield, Kent
I've not found baptism of William age 8 in 1841. In the 1871 census his birth place is given as Chelsfield, in 1901 & 1911 as St Paul Cray.

According to a Tree on Ancestry:
http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/729260/person/-1651917301
Robert Woolford was baptized 12 Dec 1790 at St Leonard Streatham, son of another Robeet & sarah WOOLFORD. Sarah (bap 1790) was married to Sarah TAMPLIN. Their Banns were read in 1813 in Caterham, with Robert WOOLFORD being described as being from Cudham.

So, I don;t think that Robert is a son of Robert (born about 1774) married to Joan
Regards
Peter

Hi Mavis & Nathan,
Very interesting!!
Mavis: we were briefly in contact in 1994, but at that time, I knew nothing about your family. Since then, although I did not notice until you posted, I had found out about family of siblings of Charles Robert.
I have Henry Robert (born 1811 in Ireland ) as Henry Joseph, in 1851, 1861 , 1871 & 1881 censuses.
Are you saying that your family bible states that Robert was baptized 1802 in Nottingham? That was the baptism that I had guessed might be of Nathan's ancestor.
What do you know of George Robert WOOLFORD (bap 1800)?

Nathan: Can you tell me which son of Robert (1846-1928) was your ancestor ?
My email address is on my website, so you might want to go to direct emails
Peter
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pnlowe/woolford.htm

According to 1851 census in Westminster, Thomas Robert WOOLFORD was born in Liverpool. He married Eleanor JAMIESON in 1833 in Edinburgh.
Maybe he was baptized 30 Dec 1802 in St Peter Nottingham (from IGI), but no proof of that.
I believe his parents are Robert & Joan WOOLFORD.
Thomas Robert & Eleanor had to my knowledge these sons:
Henry, Thomas, Robert & John.
How are you related to Thomas Robert ?
Peter

Robert Woolford is my grandfather's grandfather and for whom I am named (just a middle name).

I have just started putting it all together from there down and it is not complete. But when it is I can send you what I have.

Robert Woolford his sone moved to France and then Australia. He had a brother who moved here as well but the family lost track of him and I have not been able to discover if he had any descendants yet.

Robert Woolford as his father makes sense as my pop has repeatedly said every generation of Woolford's in our line has a Robert and has had forever. I guess it cant really be true, still it is all very interesting.

Are you connected to this line?

I will download your gedcom file and see what I can learn!

Thanks for your advice.

Nathan

Hello Poppycock, I suspect your Robert Woolford is Robert Woolford b about 1802 to Robert Woolford 1774-1832 and Joan Woolford 1773-1830. Their children were born all over the place so it would explain why he is so ahrd to find. It would also fill a gap in my family tree. I am going to add it in and see how it looks.

Nathan

We have no information as to where he was born or who or where his family came from. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Joan

I am researching my husband's family and would like to know the descendants of James Sharples born 1826 Wigan Lancashire, married Margaret Holcroft. Children were George, Thomas, Christopher, Andrew, Margaret & his great grandfather Albert. I am particularly interested in those that came to NZ and their families. Thanks Joan

Woolford's of Woodbury, New Jersey

My father was Franklin Lee Woolford. He was born in 1892 in Seaford, Delaware. His father was Caleb Woolford who was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, around 1861 he had a twin brother Joshua, another brother Malin, sisters Elizabeth, Rachel J., and Harriett. This information was gathered from the 1870 census. If anyone has any additional information, I would really appreciate it.

The 1911 Census index reveals that Florence May was living in Pontypridd District, with Ellen Maud age 2, and William H age 29 and Eliza J age 23.

A William Henry WOOLFORD married in Sep Qtr 1908 in Pontypridd Reg. District to most likely Elizabeth RICHARDS.

I think that William WOOLFORD was listed in 1901 Census aged 15 as being born in Festiniog, and if so was listed in 1891 in Ffestiniog with parents Alfred(age 38, born Lodden, Hampshire) & Margaret WOOLFORD. That Alfred was baptized in 1853, son of Charles & Caroline (nee WOOLFORD) WOOLFORD who married in 1842. Both baptism & marriage in Sherfield on Lodden.
See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pnlowe/woolford.htm... their ancestry

Peter
