I am looking for info on Jesse Woodward, b. 1764 in Stafford Co, VA. Moved to Lee Co about 1795, died there Sept. 1820. He married Mary Hyden and had ten known children. His son John S. Woodward married Charity Claypool. Jesse had two known brothers, James, also in Lee Co. and William. Any data on any Woodward/Woodard appreciated.

Curtis, You are most likely descended from Henry Woodward and Sarah Shelton, his wife. Very little is known about either of them. Henry was probably born about 1730, probably in VA. He served as a Lieut. and then a Capt. in the French and Indian War, commanding the 10th Co., VA Regt. After the war, he lived in Staford Co., VA. He probably died about 1800. He had 3 known sons, James, Jesse, William, and possibly a 4th, John. Between 1798 and 1800, James, Jesse and John moved to Lee Co. You are probably descended from one of Jesse's sons. Have you checked the 1850 census for a Woodward with a son your grandfather's age? You might also contact Scott Scheibe dsscheibe@earthling.net. He has a large data base and a web page. Please let me know how you fare. Good luck.

Am looking for any connections to Edward L. Woodard. He is listed on the 1850 Lee Co. census at age 18 with his parents James & Jane. His 1st wife was Rebecca Speak, 2nd wife Margaret or Mary.
