Woodmancy family from England

I am a descendant of Captain James Woodmansee (born 1778)who descended from William Hillard of the Plymouth Colony (Mayflower). James Woodmansee married Lucinda Park (descendant of Baron Sir Robert Parke who immigrated in 1630) on February 3, 1784. I have a lot of information on the family history if anyone is interested.

Sad Christmas Story 1832

“Republican Compiler,”Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, vol. XIV, no 19, Tues 17 Jan 1832, p. 2, cols. 2-3:

“A woman and her child were frozen to death in Fayette county, Penn. on Christmas night. The woman’s name was Woodmancy --- she had gone to a neighbor’s house, distant about a mile from her own, to spend the Christmas, and started homeward about sundown; a snow storm coming up she missed her path, and wandered through the woods. They were both found frozen to death on Monday morning. How the wretched woman must have clung to her unconscious child, as she felt the chill of death stealing over her!”
Ella was born in 1858. She married 2x. Her 1st husband, Frank Boyd, was my ggrandfather. She then married Jackson Myers and had 5 children. Her oldest son, John Wesley Boyd, was my grandfather. We are trying to get some info on Frank Boyd. JW was born in 1876 and a brother was born in 1878 and died. About a yr. later she married Jackson Myers. I can get her death date and need to pull the material from my research.

I appologize for not responding sooner, but my husband died in 2004 and it's been rough.

Let me know what you need and I'll try to get the info.

Ella was my 1st cousin, 3 times removed. Do you have any data re her birth or death dates, locations, etc? Based on her mother's marriage and death dates, it appears she must have been born between 1 may 1853 and 1 dec 1858, however, I have never been able to fully proof either of those dates.

The 1850 census has her father living in Wharton Twp, Fayette County in the residence of John Dale, apparently as a single man.

I have recently scanned a copy of the 1908 Canisteo High School Yearbook. The person named in the subject line appears in this book as an alumni.

To view the pages of the 1908 Senior Annual - go to the site listed below:

http://communities.msn.com/TheSeniorAnnual1908CanisteoHighSc...

There is no charge to view or to copy any or all of the pages! I have found such delight from this book and felt selfish not to share with other genealogists! (To copy an image, place your cursor on the image and click your right mouse button. Choose to "Save Picture As" and name your own copy!)

Please enjoy your visit. Leave me a message while you're there - I'd love to hear from you. And if the images are not clear - I need to know that as well!

Shari B-)
Frances E. Woodmancy/Woodmansee m. Charles H. Frink???

My 3rd gr-grandmother is Frances E. Woodmancy/Woodmansee who married Charles H. Frink. I know they had 4 children together and later divorced. From what I know, Charles had custody of the children. I do not have any information regarding Frances, except for a name. Her husband, Charles, was born Oct 20, 1839 & died March 20, 1884. Their date of marriage was May 19, 1866. Their children were: Herbert Etna Frink, Sarah Jane Frink (m. Clayton Palmer York), Nellie Maud Frink, and Chester Arthur Frink (m. Bessie E. Patterson). I have some dates for their children as well. Can anyone fill in the blanks regarding Frances E. Woodmancy? Dates, ancestry, etc...

Any other descendants for this line? I would love to compare notes!

Best Wishes,
Melinda A.
Re: Virginia Woodmancy

Virginia,

You posted over a year ago, so this may be already answered. English-Irish are English families that moved to Ireland during various conquests. In most cases this means Ulster known as Northen Ireland.

Other families are called Scotch-Irish because these are families from Scotland that settled in Ireland after conquest. An amusing point is the Scots ARE Irish being the descendants of Irish that conquered the area known as Scotland in the 5th and 6th century. The Irish also conquered Wales about that time.

Enjoy your quest,
Fred

My grandmother is Virginia Woodmancy (maiden name). She was born in 1925 and died in 1994 in Maryland. According to family legend her parents immigrated to the U.S. shortly before or after her birth. They were English-Irish. If anyone knows what that term means, please inform me.
