My grandfather, Heinrich Wohler (married Margaretha Wilms), and his brothers, Georg and Wilhelm, seem to have come from Brake in Schleswig-Holstein. Does anyone have a connection?

Brake was or is the name of a town in northern Germany. It is also the name of a town in N.C. near Rocky Mount and the name of a town in W.V. near Petersburg. I hope this helps. They were towns started by the Brake family in the app. 1700's and there is not much left. The town in N.C. still has roads named Brake.

I stumbled across this message by accident. My father, Robert, passed on just shortly after posting the message to which you replied. I have taken up the family archive, but have not spent much time on the Woehler family. So far, I have not come across the name you have mentioned, but that is not to say that there isn't a connection.

Conrad would have been born in the 1700's. Probably after 1750. He had two sons Johann Gerd., and Johann Hermann. Hermann had sons also. I only have information on the direct line, so anything is possible.

I don't think we have a match yet, but your Johann Heinrich could be an uncle. Mine was born in 1846, and married Mary Anna Specht or Spillman. You do have a link with someone a couple of messages back, however. The name Franziska was mentioned in that post.

If we could find the connection between Hermann and sons, either of which may have had a sister or daughter named Franziska, my great grandmother and tag it to St. Petersburg, Prussia. Hmmm...Have already tried Ellis Island web site but these dates are much earlier than Ellis Island dates, she was born in 1831, could be Conrad's grandaughter. Keep in touch as we both try to find the connection. You never know. Thanks and sorry about your father, Robert. I lost my 38 yr. old sister last year also.
