WLADYCZKA was the name on her burial record. WLADEK was her Ameicanized name. There are several other names that she could be listed as. Her Christian names were Felicija (Felicia)Sophia. Likely she was Lithuanian. Her name could have been Russianize, Polandized, and very likely, Germanized. V is like W in German. It was common in those days. She married Simonas SHELPOWICZ sometime around 1900 in Chicago, very likely St Georges Church in Bridgeport.

The surnames are similar certainly. I'm not sure of a connection, but will note the possibility. Since I wrote last, I have learned a little more about Felicija (Felicia)Sophia WLADYCZKA (WLADICZKAITE, WLADICK, VLADYCZKAITE). She was born on 24 Dec 1882, the daughter of Joseph WLADYCZKA and Baraba BEINORAITE. She immigrated to the USA in 1900 and married Simon SHLEPOWICZ (son of Ignatius LIAPAVICIENE and Barbara GUDAUSKAS)in St. George Roman Catholic Lithuanian Church in Chicago, Illinois on 1 Sep 1901. They had six children. She died on 4 May 1932. Her very close younger sister, Petronella (b.1885), immigrated to Chicago in 1908 and married John LUKSUS (Joamnem LUKSZAS, son of Antonii LUKSZAS and Barbarae RUSOKAITES)on 4 Sep 1910 in St. George Church also. They had two children. She died on 24 Sep 1933.

Dear Fleurette Burak, I read your message and all the informations about Wladyka´s are few, but very precious to me. All I know is this huge family has it´s origins between Poland and Ukraine. It´s slavic for sure. My family, a little part of Wladyka´s, came from south Ukraine.

My grandfather uses to tell about his grandfather and "Odessa". Odessa is a city, but it is also name of a state. Once I was searching about Wladykas on the net and I found the name "Berezivka". Berezivka it would be the last town my family was before coming to Brazil. Maybe you find something in this town.

thank you Mariana.. I will try that one too.

Just meeting the fellow wladyka. Notice some people have questions on the last name. Email me if you want to hear the story that has been passed down to me.

I am just new into genealogy (in Canada). My maternal grandfather was Mike Wladyczka from the Ukraine. I am only writing because the last names are similar??? I really know nothing about his family in europe and am hoping to find a link to the Ukraine ancestors.
Grandfather immigrated to Canada via Ellis Island in 1908 or 1909.
