Hi Anne,

My name is Sarah and Edward Witherow is my great grandfather on my mother's mother's side. Are you in the USA or Australia? I'm looking for information on Edward, too, most notably how he ended up in Australia from Minnesota!

I realise you have posted this message almost 14 years ago, but I hope you receive my response.

Kind Regards,
Sarah Mullens

Hi,

David Witherow is my 2nd great-grandfather. His daughter Sarah (1845-1907) married George Martin Finney in 1871.
David Witherow:
born 1815 Mount Holly Springs; died in Cornwall, Lebanon County, 1898
married Martha Jane McGuire in 1842 at Leesburg, Cumberland County, PA
served in 9th PA Cavalry as David Witherow (Civil War)
served in 130th PA Infantry under his mother's maiden name as "David Ingram" (Civil War)
Martha died in Lebanon County about 1898 or 1899.
Most of this information is from census records, David's Civil War Pension record and the Civil War pension record of his son, James Witherow, who died in 1863 near Fredericksburg VA while in the 130th PA Infantry.

Re: Witherows in Nottingham Twp, Washington County, PA

Hello, wondering if you found any more information about Nottingham Twp, Washington County, PA Witherow family. I am looking for the family of Jane Witherow who married John Teeters about 1819 in that exact area. She stayed in Washington county the rest of her life, but John had left her and children sometime before 1830. She seems to have raised her children alone, although she lived next to a Samuel Witherow for some time, who was very close in age to her, so I'm thinking he could have been her brother. Any clues? Thanks, Tracy

Hello, I am looking for the parents of a Jane Witherow, who married John Teeters, about 1819 in Nottingham township, Washington county, Pennsylvania. She was born about 1797. She never left the area raised her children alone after John apparently left her (she tried to divorce him, sheriff could not find him)sometime before 1830. She lived for a while next to a Samuel Witherow who was close in age to her, so I'm assuming it is her brother. Any names or dates match your bible? Thanks so much, Tracy

Re: James Witherow

Hello Vivienne

We seems to be doing the same research as we share the same great great grandfather James Witherow. I just wondered if you could share the source of information of the parents of Alexander Witherow.

The reason I ask is because I came across a record of Ulster emigrants to Philadelphia with James, Easter Witherow from Elagh sailing onboard the Superior in 1849. Their four children, Emelia (10), Rebecca (7) William (5) and Isabella (3) were also on the list but not Alexander. The name Easter Witherow is quite an unusual name and the fact that they were from Elagh suggests that it is the same parents you have referred to as being Alexander's parents, but it seems strange that they would have left Alexander behind in Ireland, especially at the time following the potato famine.

Any help on this appreciated.

Lynda

While searching for information on my grandfather Leo's brother Harold I came across a Harold who was born in 1938 and died 2009. He had two wives in his lifetime, Norma Jean Fetterman and Margaret. Children Cindy, Randy, Clara, William, Christine, and James. Siblings Martha, Mary Lou, and Robert

Because of this Harold s DOB I'm thinking this is possibly my grandfather's nephew and his brothers son. My grandfather was born in 1918 so this would make since but I'm not positive. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has any helpful information about my grandmother Viola, maiden name Leigh. I'm aware via the Internet of most of her relatives name but wasn't sure if there are and decendants alive really besides myself. Viola died in 1983 before I got a chance to meet her. My father still gets upset when I mention her and I really like to hear about her life and her personality. Any information is very appreciated!

My father is Dana Witherow. My grandfather was Leo Witherow. His mother was Hattie Klinger and his father was Harry. Leo had a brother Harold and Wilson. Leo worked at Republic Steel as a billing clerk, he was really good at math. I was told he was in the Navy although I can't seem to find any information about when and where he served. He was married to Viola Leigh. He died in 1989 when I was 1. Any other information you want to know? How are you related? I'm excited to hear back, I've been searching for anyone who knows my side of the family!

Hi,

I just bought a Witherow family Bible on eBay. It contains records for the family of Samuel Withrow, born 1768 who married Rachel McLain, including the surnames Rhea, Culbertson and Shields. If this would help you, drop me an email off list and I I will be happy to send you pics of the pages with information.
The Bible itself dates to 1807. Oh, and even in this source the spelling of the surname is sometimes Witherow and sometimes Withrow.

Robin Withrow
rwmercer@yahoo.com

The other night I was surfing the net when I came across a message
from you on the Ancestory web site which I found to be most
interesting, The message is bit dated.

My name is Patrick ( Paddy) Witherow and I was born in Thurles in 1945
and there is only one family of that name in Thurles . The names
mentioned in your message would as far I know be my Grand Uncle and
Aunt. The following may be of interest to you:

Patrick Witherow married a Mary Rogers on the 28th Feb 1870. They had
six children of which three of them died in child birth.

Henry born 5th April 1872 went to USA as far as I know
Margaret born 2th March 1874 also went to USA
Martin born 24th May 1876 died at birth
Catherine born 29th Sept 1879 died at birth
Patrick born 18th Feb 1882 my Grand Father
John born 5th Oct 1885 died at birth

We are aware of Margaret's presance in the US , my sister met some of
her relations in New York. I am enclosing a letter that I sent to a
Peggy Costa a relation of Margaret but she was unable to give me any
information.

I would love to get any information on Henry and Margaret about how
they got there, where did they go to and their families.

Regards

Paddy Witherow

Re: Allen/Dorothy Witherow family

Helen:

I realize this is a very old post, but the Dorothy Witherow you mention was a sister of my grand father. Her maiden name was Dorothea Elizabeth Braun. She was born in Pennsylvania in November, 1886. She married Allen L. Witherow in Philadelphia in 1912. Allen was in the US Marines in 1910, stationed at the US Naval Yard in Washington, DC. He wound up in the Panama Canal Zone, I don't know in what capacity, but he returned from there in June, 1913. He had been born in Crookston, Polk Co, MN in 1884. As you say he apparently died before 1920. Of the three children listed in that census, I did find that the son Allen, 13 years old in 1930 was enrolled at Girard College in Philadelphia, a boarding school for impoverished youths with single parents - originally only for white males.

In 1930 Dorothy Witherow, now 44 is living with her mother, Dorthea Braun, but oddly also called Dorthea Witherow in the census. They live at 1225 Tree Street in Philadelphia where the elder Dorthea has lived since at least 1900, and most likely earlier. There are two young men living with them - James and Joseph Witherow, both listed as 23, both listed as tailors in a tailor shop. The two boys and the younger Dorothy are all listed as children of the older Dorothy who is now 80 years old (she was born in Germany, January 1, 1850). A very twisted census entry. I don't know who the two boys are, I can't find them in any earlier census reports, but perhaps they might be sons of an earlier marriage for Allen L. Witherow.

I too, would like to locate living descendents.

I hope you get this message.

harry Wyatt,
Perkasie, PA

Hello- I was reading through old postings and found yours. I find it so odd, but my great great grandfather was Robert Witherow born 4/3/1827 and he married Martha Jane Hagarty born 8/1841. I recieved this information from my grandmother who copied it from Robert and Martha's bible. There was a forward written before it started that said that the Witherow;s came from Ireland and settled in Iowa, then they moved to PA by wagon and settled in the New Millport/Fruit Hill Area. There are some relatives before Robert by the name of David T and his father Gerald. Do you know any information about these individuals? Thank you so much.

e-mail aoyler2007@yahoo.com

My grandmother's name was Rebecca Witherow.

Her father James Witherow was born in Muff, Donegal, Ireland in 1862. I have birth information on his brothers and sisters, Margaret Rebecca, Sarah, Rachel, Robert and William who were born in either Ture or Ballyboe, Kilderry District, Ireland.

My great grandfather moved to Scotland around 1890 and through researching death records I see that his sister Sarah and brother Robert also moved to Scotland.

I would love to hear more about the Witherows from this part of Ireland.

Trying to locate status of Florence Virginia Witherow. Born in 1912 in Shasta County, Calif. Father was John Witherow, mother Nellie Thatcher. Married Raymond Wynne during WWII.
Lived in Eureka, Calif. If she is still living? Did she remarry? What happened to her son born Oct, 16, 1944?

I am Raymonds daughter in TN and am trying to complete family history. I would love to communicate with her. Both of my parents have been dead for years and this is a family mystery.

I am researching the Aughlish/Gallany branch and have only gotten back to Joseph b 1761 farmer in Auglish, Banagher. I have visited the farm (Aughlish House) near the Aughlish Bridge on Glenedra Rd near Feeny. One source places the Wodrows at Eaglesham from 1337 -1637. I will try to email you

Alan, Is this William b.03/03/1717 in Ulster to Robert b. 1692 and Jennet Witherow? I have yet to find the parents of this Robert. Have You? Do you still think Robert was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland? Was Robert's surname Wodrow/Woodrow? There is confusion.....The early Wodrows of Scotland had Roberts, but not one born in 1692. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lila

Stacey, I would like to correspond with you about Withrows of N. Ireland. I am looking for Robert Witherow b. 24/06/1692. We can find no birth record, and do not know if he was born in Scotland or Ireland. He was married to Jennett in Ulster in 1714, had 2 sons there William and John, and immigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1720s. His other children James, Robert William, and Jane were born in Virginia. Do you recall this Robert, and if not, do you have suggestions of where to look? Sincerely, Lila
In my family records, Thomas Witherow was married to a Jane Campbell and had one son, John. Thomas came to America from Ireland with his infant son. Unknown what happened to his wife. He remarried Agnes Patterson and had seven other sons and at least one daughter, Mary. Robert was the first born son to Agnes. I descend from his son John. Robert married Rebecca Langborn?
John married Margaret Hagerty, both are buried at Fruit Hill Cemetery in Ansonville, PA. along with many other Witherow descendants.

Hi Stacey, check out my post of December 23, 2012. My uncle farmed at Auglisch (Sp?) Co. Derry. I grew up in Banbridge, Co. Down and emigrated to Australia in 1965. Currently reside in Colorado. I never knew any other Witherows in Ireland.
Cheers,
Eric Linton Witherow
303 495 2608

My uncle Bill owned the farm at Aughlish until around 1958 when he emigrated to Victoria, Australia. I visited there often and played all over the farm with my cousins. Uncle Bill sold the farm to Ivor Canning.
In 2003 I visited Ireland for the first time since 1970. I found the farm and spent a wonderful afternoon with Ivor who was then in his eighties.
Uncle Bill's brother Alec, my Dad, was a sergeant in the RUC and I grew up in Banbridge, Co. Down. I went to Australis in 1965 when I was 17 and visited Uncle Bill and family in Melbourne.
I have some genealogical notes made by my mother that go back to 1829. My grandfather was John Witherow who died in 1928
I'd be pleased to chat with you if you have any questions
Cheers,
Eric Linton Witherow
Colorado
303 495 2608
