You mentioned that Sarah left William, I've wondered about that and could understand why if she did. Do you have anything to verify it? I do know that her son Charles, ( my gg grandfather) says she died in 1903, but no indication as to where she was living when she died.
I do know she was born in Connecticut, but haven't been able to find a Witherell family in Wisconsin that she belongs to. Unfortunately, the census prior to marriage to William didn't list names of children.
