I've just found a record for Silas Winters. He was on the list of prisoners who were pardoned, died, or discharged upon expiration of time served for the year 1823. Records from the Co. Clerk's office in Delhi, NY. He was then 25, fair complexion, Lt. Br. Hair, blue eyes, 5'8" tall, and born in Deleware Co., NY. He had a large scar on his forehead at the edge of his hair, scar left side of mouth. His crime was obtaining $ under false pretenses, and forging 2 indictments. He served 4 years, starting Dec. 4, 1819. If he was born ca. 1798, he may be related to our Isaac Winters who was born in 1794 and married Polly Clark, daughter of Aarom Clark. I noticed there were Clark's and Winters in Deleware Co., NY. Most of my research has been in Suffolk Co., NY. I'm trying to find which family our Isaac belongs to. Isaac was a Hell Gate Branch Pilot, and he served in the War of 1812. The family lived in Sag Harbor, LI, NY for awhile. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
