23 April 1682 in the Oyster Bay records there is a John Winter who is witness to the proof of the will of a John Williams. There was another (maybe the same) John Winter who sold land in 1686 in Rye, NY to a Frances Brown and the next year sold everything he had in Rye to Joseph Horton. I have a note somewhere that a Timothy Winter bought land very early on Long Island. (I looked at land records in Riverhead, Suffolk, NY some years ago.)
Does anyone know the families of these particular Winters?
And just to throw in, I also have note that President Abraham Lincoln granted a "clemency warrant" to a John Winter from Missouri for acts of treason in the "rebellion."
