Wingfield's of Washington Georgia

Surnames: WINGFIELD
I am Dona Amechia Taylor, a 35 year-old African-American woman residing in Atlanta, Georgia.

I am a descendant of "Wingfield's" originally from the Washington, Georgia, Wilkes County area.

My Great-Great-Great Grandmother, "Katie" was a slave. She may of had a sister named "Allie" and had children, all of whom carried the "Wingfield" surname, by the names of Marrie, Vandora, Elbert, John and Sally.

Whether or not she was owned by the Wingfield's,or married a Wingfield male, I do not know.

I have heard the story that she often referred to times spent on a plantation in Warren County and to a "Master Cody". It is possible that she was sold to a Wingfield or arrived in Wilkes County via some other means.

I am the last remaining descendant committed to pulling together the pieces of my family history.

While I realize that the issue of slave ownership can be a sensitive one, without this missing link my research is all but halted.

Any assistance or information you can offer will be most helpful.

Regards,

Dona Amechia Taylor
