Is this Walter a Wingate or a Valentine? I may be related to a Walter Valentine who married a Virginia Wingate. Any info? Or any info on a Virginia Wingate? Thanks.

Is anyone still working on this?
I have found some data for William Kelch who married Margaret Elizabeth Wingate in 1887. She later married Tom Lowery according to Ron Camp (2005). I have some data about the Kelch’s at Osceola and Memphis around 1900, and some Kelch descendants thru 1930 census, but I can’t locate Margaret’s origins except for a census record that says her father was b AR and her mother IN.

History of Pike County Mississippi

100th Anniversary Reprint

This book includes families from Southwest Mississippi including Pike, Marion, Walthall, Amite, Lincoln, Lawrence , Franklin, Copiah, Jefferson, Adams, Wilkinson, Pearl River, Jefferson Davis, Lamar counties MS and surrounding Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish Louisiana with many families later migrating to TX and LA

This is an excellent hard to find genealogy source and very collectible.

"Pike County Mississippi 1798-1876, Pioneer Families and Confederate Soldiers, Reconstruction and Redemption" by Luke W. Conerly published in 1909 has been reprinted in its original format. This book documents many pioneer families of Pike and surrounding counties with over 400 surnames and thousands of names including hundreds of Confederate Soldiers It contains many interesting stories and the history of Southwest Mississippi, from pioneer days through the war for southern independence and into reconstruction, written by a Southern Patriot. The Pike County Courthouse burned in the 1880's and much of Pike County history would have been lost without this book. I am the authors great great grandson and this hardbound reprint was created from a pristine 1909 edition. The author was born in China Grove near Tylertown MS in 1841 and elected a 5th Sgt. in the 16th MS Quitman Guards Co. E. He owned and edited the "Magnolia Herald" in Pike County in the 1870's and also edited the "Amite City Democrat" in Amite LA.

The Hardbound reprint is 368 pages with photos.

A partial index of thousands of names in the book can be viewed at www.lukewardconerly.com
