Updating info for my Great Grandfather James Willison

James Willison was born in 1855 in TX. He married Mary Jane 'Mollie' Campbell on 01 Feb 1890 in Paris, Lamar, TX. He died 16 Jan 1908 in Antlers, Pushmataha, OK. They had 4 children. In 1888 they lived in Cooper, Lamar, TX and in 1892 in Indian City, Payne, OK. This is where there children were born. In 1908, James, Mary their boys Walter and Thomas 'Tommie' all died within 2 weeks of each other. My Grandfather Dudley Enoch and sister Josie 'Babe Jo' lived. From 1888 to present I have most of the linage. I'm trying to find the parents and siblings of James Willison. In census records his name is listed as Jim Wilson, J.W. Willison,James Wilson, and the last name has also been spelled Willisson. Is there anybody out there related to me? I sure would like to hear from you. :-)

HELP! Willison

Hi everyone, my husband's mother's biological father was a Willison. All we know about him was that his family moved to New York because of the Civil War because things were getting pretty bad where they were, (obviously long) before he was born, and that this man I'm looking for, was a traveling salesman, and passed through Spokane, Washington in about January of 1950. I like to fancy this man was single, because I would hate to find out he was married, and guessing he was probably born within 15 years of 1910?? So far what I have done is to find a map of all the States that were affected by the Civil War, find all of the Willison families that lived in those states in the 1850 census. And then searched for them in the New York 1860 census. I found there was a John Willison and also a William D/H?? Marrison(Willison) that both moved to New York, but there were 6 John Willisons' and the 1860's census doesn't tell me which John Willison it is. If anyone can help me elimate any of them or give me any information I would be very grateful. The John Willison's I have, according to the 1850 census are as follows:
1) John Willison, born about 1820 in Ohio, living in Walker, Texas. Occupation: Brickmason.
Married to a Julian, born in about 1823 in Massachusetts.
2) John Willison, born about 1836 in Arkansas, living in Red River, Texas. Age 14. Living with a
different family?
3) John Willison, born about 1834 in Connecticut, living in Blue Jackson, Missouri. Age 16.
Parents were Charles and Barbara Willison.
4) John Willison, born about 1826 in Maryland, living in District 2, Cecil, Maryland.
5) John Willison, born about 1821 in Maryland, living in District 2, Hartford, Maryland.
Occupation: looks like Mearenner?? Married to a Mary A. born about 1825 in Maryland.
6) John Willison, born about 1848, living in District 9, Allegany, Maryland. Age 2. Father: Jas
Willison.

And then William D/H Marrison(Willison) born in 1823 in Tennessee, living in District 21, Dade, Georgia. Married to a Harriot.

Any Information or comments welcome. I'm beggining to feel a little discouraged. Glad for any help I can get! :D Thanks.

Hi, I do believe we're relatives. My dad's side of the family was from the Janesville area and my dad was even born there. I haven't met anyone on my grandfather's side (Steven Willison) because they didn't associate with each other. My grandpa passed away July 1993. He had Fabry's disease which was slowly killing him, but what killed him was severe burns on his body.

Harold Willison (ohio)

I am trying to track down my fathers side of the family. Unfortunately, I have very little to go on and I am looking for some help.

My father was "Harold Arnold Willison" and I believe he was born in Athens, Ohio. He has several siblings but the information is sketchy at best. He had a brother named "Lester Sylvester Willison". I believe he had a brother named Ray(mond?). He had a sister Charlene (we called marie) and a sister Nida (No idea what her real name was/is, but we called her Nida (nighta?) and my last location for her was Texas.

I know the siblings all lived in the Vinton , Ohio area for many years.

Any insight in to the father would appreciated.

Thanks!

I am from the Willison family of Licking County, Ohio. My best guess is Elizabeth is the daughter of Oliver Willison, as he had a daughter listed Jennie which could be Elizabeth. There are also Hoyts in Licking County.
Tuscarawas is close to this county. Good luck.

Help! I'm looking for documentation of Amelia's parents. I believe them to be Elisha Willison and am unsure of her mother, as he was married more than once. I believe her to be from Licking, OH and she later married John High and moved to Carroll County Arkansas. She is listed as Elisha's child on multiple family trees, but I can't find any documentation. Any insight would be great! : )

This was posted many years ago so not sure if you are still interested in any information, but here goes...my great grandparents were Delbert and Cinderilla Kast (Wilson). We were always under the impression that the spelling was Wilson and not Willison, but we could be wrong. Delbert and Cinderilla had 4 children. Cannot remember all of the names but my grandmother was Mabel, a sister Emma and a brother George, other brother can't remember his name. Delbert, Cinderilla and Mabel are all buried in Richland Center. Mabel died at a young age, I think 40ish, massive stroke. All other siblings died pretty young from heart related illnesses. Hope this information helps.

They lived in Northern OH. I have very little to go on, but was told Sarah was from England, and her parents may have been Rueben Willison and Maria DeFeese.

Hi Robin, you probably don't remember me at all. I left home when you were still really young and I never came back. I am your older half-brother Greg. Your mom was born "Madonna Pearl Willison" and was born in Madison Wisconsin. Your Grandmother was "Alice Ellen Roeben" and your Grandfather was "Samuel Willison". Mom had 3 brothers "David,Roger, and Steve, and 2 sisters "Elaine and Laura". Also, yes the genetic disease called Fabry Disease is carried down from the female to the male children. That is, the female is the carrier that carries the gene and gives it to the male children. Your sister Pam probably is a carrier, but was too stubborn to believe me when I brought it up. And her daughter is probably a carrier too. I guess we won't know until someone has a son and he becomes infected with the gene. I got lucky and didn't get it. There was a 50/50 chance. Your brother Randy got it and died. Anyway,I hope this information helps you a little. If you want to contact me, my email is ..... greg_heron@hotmail.com

Yes, I think there is a connection. I have theories but cannot find the common ancestor. I am thinking that ancestor is in England or Ireland.
My grandfather always insisted on (2's ,2'l). My 5th g-grandfather was Samuel Willisson and in SC documents the name is spelled with ss,ll. Samuel was born abt 1750 in VA.
In 150 his granddaughter Harriett went to visit family in Yorkshire,Eng. One of the brothers was Jeremiah.
Maybe we work to find the connecting link. Marie 7011

Lewis, I have been trying to locate a Samuel Willisson born around 1750 in Virginia. Since you spell Willisson the same way there has to be acommon ancestor because ALL of the Willisson's from Samuel were adamant about the 2L's and 2S's.
I need to locate Samuel and find out if he had brothers. The only info on him is he married a Rebecca Starke, But the family never spoke of him.
If you find more Willisson's please post them. Beyond his survival, I haven't discovered anything else about his service in the Civil War, but found the information about his brother, Newlove, very interesting.

My great grandfather was Virgil Willison Hite (Hoyt). I'm trying to find out more about his family and history.

He was born 12 Jul 1889 in Dennison, Tuscarawas, Ohio. His parents were W H Hoyt and Elizabeth Willison. I have no information on either of them. I know that Virgil Willison Hite was living away from or without his parents when he was 11 years old according to the 1900 Census. He was boarding with Elisha and Mary M Packer in Mill, Tuscarawas, Ohio. I suspect this is where the surname changed from Hoyt to Hite. The 1900 Census data suggests that both W H Hoyt and Elizabeth Willison were born in Ohio.

If this is a definite link to someone's family, or perhaps a possible missing link, I'd like to know more. My family is full of mysterious broken links that I'd like to piece back together. Thanks.

Thanks for the information.

I'm not sure if that is the same W H Hoyt (Hite) that fathered Virgil Willison Hite. There are many missing links, and it seems odd for the name to change from Hite to Hoyt and then back to Hite. Name changes are common though. Regardless, you have provided me with new links to explore.

I've looked at the Willison's you provided as well, and they have proven to be interesting possible links. They are almost as much of a mystery as Elizabeth Willison in my tree, which could be promising. The fact that data is scarce could be their link in itself.

Thanks so much!

I will keep my eyes peeled.

Yes. The Ohio Historical Society in Columbus has many records from the smaller towns around Ohio. This is how I tracked down my Grandfather's parents (Hoyt & Willison). I had a birth date and birth place for him, but no parent names. I used that in their archives that they have on microfilm and after about only half an hour to an hour, I found him.

The name Hoyt through me off at first because I was tracking Hite, but it has to be him. What are the odds of a Virgil Willison Hoyt and a Virgil Willison Hite being born on the same day in the same small town in Ohio? It was exciting to make that discovery, but then when I put it all together in my family tree here, it revealed no hints about his parents that was conclusive, Elizabeth Willison and W H Hoyt. So back to do further research someday soon.

I actually don't have any birth dates on her at all. Her son, Virgil, was born in 1889, so I would guess her DOB to be around or before 1870 depending upon if Virgil is her first child.

This cold weather is keeping me away from the Historical Society.
