I wish that I could make folks understand that the Nancy Jane Williams who married James Litteral is not the same Nancy that married Robert Biggerstaff. and her folks were not John and Mary Pace Williams of Monroe co. Ky. and that our Nancy Jane Williams did not die in 1927 in Texas.

If they paid attention to detail like they should if they want a correct family tree, instead of just copying other peoples tree, then they would realize that our Nancy and James are still living in 1900 in Carter co. ky and Nancy Williams Biggerstaff is living in Texas in 1900. Two different women. Cousins maybe, but not the same woman.

Sue

I have a long line of Williams that were one of the founding families of Texas and most every generation had at least one William or Bill. Was your Williams from Texas at any time?? or his ancestors? About what year of birth did this man have?

This mans name was Bill Williams, the lady was my mothers cousin Arlene Goodling. He was stationed at Mt. Gretna Military encampment, she was at a tent revival near by, there were about 4 cousins and my mother he had his picture made with all of them. This man is my dad, but he got separated from my mother, it was WW 2...and he never knew she was going to have me! I never tried to find him before because I didn't want to hurt anyones families, but they are all deceased now so I am looking for his family lines. HARD JOB!!! THANKS FOR WRITING TO ME Teena

Re: Lewis or Louis A Williams - born in Norway - experienced genealogists please help!

I am posting my own update in this thread, to aid anyone who may come along after me searching for the same relative.

Thanks to the help of the other people who replied in this thread, I discovered more about Louis A Williams, including his date and cause of death. Answer me in this thread with your email address and I will send you more info about him.

The hard work of these other users in this thread also inspired me to dig into newspaperarchive.com, where I discovered news items that gave me clues to the later marriage of Louis' daughter, Stella Williams, my great-great-grandmother. I have saved these clips for any interested genealogists. Long story short, Stella Williams remarried one Leslie Solomon Ogden after the death of her first husband Otto Ostby. With L.S. Ogden, she had one son: a boy named Leslie, born about 1913. L.S. died in 1919, and Stella passed in 1921 of encephalitis. My current goal now is to discover what became of young Leslie Ogden when his parents passed, as he was only a little boy, and is a biological link to my family that none of us were aware of before. I've not found out his fate yet.

Thanks again to the users who replied to me in this thread and gave me such valuable leads, and more importantly, inspired me to keep digging to find answers about my family. Your ingenuity and hard work is an inspiration for amateur genealogists like me.

Once again, if you are researching the lines of Louis A Williams, Stella Williams Ostby Ogden, or their relatives, and want to know more/see documentation of my findings, I have it all available. Please reply to this thread. Thanks!

Hi Michele,

Your reply to my post from 2005 was quite a surprise. As you see, I had her marked as unmarried. I don't know if that was an error from generations past, or her status changed and the family lost touch and nothing was ever updated or known. I'd be curious to know what information you have regarding Samuel Williams. I do have some further info. since my posting from 2005. And yes, I do have some Williams' photographs.

Was Alexander Flint a 2nd spouse of Mary Jane Williams? Where are they buried?

I will contact you via the Ancestry messaging system.

Thanks much!

Kathleen

Re: Capt. John Williams, Ohio Militia War of 1812

From my line, a Joseph Haven' Shell married John William's daughter, Elizabeth, in Miami county, OH in 1820. Haven and his brothers had served in the war of 1812 under John Williams, who was a captain in the militia and apparently died during the war. The Williams were some of the earliest settlers in Miami county, preceding the Shells by about a decade. John apparently was in Bethel township, just south of the Shell's home in Elizabeth township. I don't know of John's other progeny.
I have reckoned that these Williams came from Giles county, VA(formerly part of Montgomery) and were associates with the Mann family who also made the move to Ohio about 1800. A Jacob Mann married a Shell daughter in Miami.

There were three Williams brothers that settled in the VA wilderness about the 1760s-70s: Philip, Michael, and George had been orphaned by their father Henry Wilhelm, who was from Germany by way of PA. They were taken in by the Price/Preiss family. Philip married Gertrude Shell, (a daughter of Jacob Shell, one of the earliest settlers at the horseshoe bend of the New River) and apparently stayed in Giles county. The trace of Philip and Gertudes' progeny is thin, so, it's indefinite if John Williams was their son or one of Michael's or George's.

hello!
I too am piqued on your Dec 2012 post about Capt John Williams.

I have a Thomas Lewis Williams born est. 1800 to 1804 in OHIO.(nativity given census' 1850-1860 ) he married in Clark Co OH to Orlevia Groves[ b 1815 MA] in 1828.

'My' Thomas named a son James B [b 1839] and John C (= Cyrus?)b 1847. as well as 3 daughters Mary Jane b1841, Emily Ann b1843, & Margaret E. b1845. all were born in Clark Co OH. Then Thomas & his in-laws relocated to Specncer Co Indiana.

Since Miami and Clark are boarder counties- am wondering were there more sons of Michael Williams Sr? / other than Micheal jr and George?

our family lore on John C Williams is that he was of "Penn Dutch" descent-- or perhaps German.

Do you know if your George Williams stayed in Ohio... or moved to Warrick Co Indiana?? there is a Williams family of men that appears there in 1820-- a John 'aged over age 45' (who is not found after 1820), a line below John is, George 26-44 & a Daniel Williams appears 1 page earlier. Geo Williams on 1850 census states DOB 1781 VA -

Ive tried to find any links to the Warrick Co Williams' to my Thomas-- just a trying to scale the wall attempt.
:)

with Early Ohio history... its hard to think my Thomas being born there so early in Ohio. though not impossible.

--unless his family had something to do with the Militia. Which has been a theory for us.

thanks for your post and I hope you are still active and see this. Take Care! ~Ang
