I have been researching David S. Widener for some time. From previous Census, Marriage & Voter records when David signed his name is other ways, he signed it as Samuel Widener and not Sanford. At least the one that was married to Lucy Caroline or Caroline Lucy did.

David S. Widener died in 1897 and Lucy lived in Elwood, Indiana so I think it ties into the draft card that you have saved in your files. Several other researchers have suggested that his son's name was Sentford/Santford as well.
