1885 Book: WIBEL / WIEBEL family in Germany

Family Tree of some WIBEL / WIEBEL
lines from the end of the 15th Century until (1885)
by Dr F WIBEL
on the occasion of the golden wedding anniversary of his parents,
27 October 1885
Second and improved edition, supersedes previous edition.

This document comprises 24 pages of charts, text, dates, places, descendant lists and other information, all written in German. This edition was published in Hamburg in 1887, and is from the Augsburg city archives.

Marlene BRENNAN of Queensland obtained a copy from the archives, and scanned it to PDF. She offers it here for the benefit of anyone working on related families.

If anyone is able to provide an English translation of the text, I will add it to the site. Until then, you can pretty well read the charts and names, and figure out the vital dates, places and continuing lines [several in USA].

The PDF document is a three-part download, totaling about 1.2 MB.

posted at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~mransom/wible/

this message cross-posted on these message boards:
weibel weible wibel wible waible waibel wiebel wyble

Wibel of Indiana

Looking for information on a George Wibel, believed to be
born in Pennsylvania and later moved to Indiana. I think
he was born in the early 1800s. He married a Harriet Taylor.
I know he had one son, John Nelson Wibel. The last name
could be spelled either Wible or Wibell. Any information would be appreciated.

Wallace,

I am currently vacationing in Indiana and I purchased a copy of John Nelson Wibel's record of death from the Wells County Health Department in Bluffton, Indiana. It lists John's birth date as 25 May 1851 in Miami Co., Indiana and his death as 28 Dec 1938 in Lancaster Twp, Wells Co., Indiana. It also lists his burial in Murray Cemetery. The document has John's father as Levi Wibel of Indiana and mother Nancy Taylor of Indiana. I double checked in the funeral home records by Elzey-Dickey-Haggard and it lists the same information. I am thinking that Levi could have been a brother of George & Solomon or possibly a son of George. I found John's obituary in the Evening News Banner, Bluffton, Indiana, in the Wednesday, Dec 28, 1938 edition (pg1, col4). But doesn't list his parents names. Let me know what you think and if you have any further information on Levi Wibel.

Cheers
Bruce MacDonald

URL:http://userweb.suscom.net/~clandonald1/genealogy1.html

George, Solomon, Levi Wibel of Indiana

I thought that George might be the father of John Nelson Wibel, but after obtaining John's death record, it lists Levi Wibel and his wife Nancy Taylor as his parents. I also found in the Ohio marriage index (1789-1850) that Solomon Wibel married Rosannah Mills on 19 Nov 1837 in Knox County, Ohio. I also found in the Wills Record, Miami County, Indiana (1843-1900) pg 267 a will for Solomon Wibel dated 2 Apr 1883 and recorded 20 June 1883 for wife Rosannah, children Hiram Marion, Albert, Thomas H., and Margaret E. (Wibel) Baker (married Lewis Baker).

If anyone has more information on George, Solomon and/or Levi Wibel please let me know.

Cheers

Bruce MacDonald

URL - http://userweb.suscom.net/~clandonald1/genealogy1.html

Bruce,

This is interesting. I don't know what to make of it. I have been thinking that Solomon, George, and Levi were brothers. Solomon was married in Knox Co., Ohio in 1837, Levi was married in Perry Co., Ohio in 1846, and George was married in Miami Co., IN in 1850. I thought you were on the right track thinking that George is John Nelson's father. It could be that whoever provided the information at John Nelson's death in 1938 just did not know who his parents were, especially since they apparently died not long after 1850. At any rate, I have not found any Levi Wibel that could be John Nelson's father.

I have not had any luck searching in Ohio for any connections. It is intereresting though that there is an Elizabeth Wibel, age 63, b. New Jersey, living next door to Levi in Perry Co., IN in 1860. She is included in the household of Rebecca Miller's parents, John and Catherine Miller. I assume this could be a their mother since she would have been born about 1887. I am still looking for her husband but no luck so far.

Thanks for the new info and we will keep looking.

Wallace Dunlap
Looking for a George Wibel that was born around 1816 in Pennsylvania. He had a brother, Solomon and a sister Sally. I know George ends up in Indiana, marrying Harriet Taylor on 25 July 1850 in Miami County, Indiana. His brother Solomon ends up in Indiana but certain that he came thru Ohio, marrying Roseanna. George had one child, John Nelson Wibel. Solomon had seven children, Samuel, Thomas, Margaret, Hiram, Marvin, Albert and Maria. If anyone has anymore information on birth, death, marriage for George and/or Solomon would be very much appreciated!

I'm not researching this family, but I came across some information that may be of interest to someone. In the source, "Chronik von Poppenweiler:"
Christian Wibel, born 4 December 1826, son of Jakob Balthes Wibel and Christine (born Maier), emigrated 17 January 1854 to America, his whereabouts unknown. In 1869 he lived in New York.

His brother Jacob Wibel, born 5 February 1820, was already in America since 1853. On or about 21 January 1870, he traveled further because of religious beliefs, and was known to be living in St. Paris, Grafschaft (county) Champagner, in the state of Ohio in 1870.

{Another brother} Adam Freiderich Wiebel lived in Cincinnati in the state of Ohio in 1855 without a known address.
Re: Wibel of Indiana

Bruce, This is a line I am working on also. I have information on John Nelson Wibel but know little of his parents. I found the George and Harriet you give, two houses from his brother?, Solomon Wibel. Levi Wibel also seems to be a fit with this family. I am trying to track them in Ohio but still need a breakthrough. John Nelson says his father came from PA and most census listings give Indiana as his mother's birthplace. I see that Harriet Taylor gives Ohio as her home state in the 1850 Miami Co., IN census. This is probably the usual census discrepancies but I feel from looking at the lines of Solomon and Levi that they also lived in Ohio. What do you think? I would be glad to share what other information I have.

I have also looked at a John Taylor living in Erie, Miami Co., IN in 1850 that was born in New York. One of his children is named Nelson so this could be Harriet's family.

Best wishes,

Wallace Dunlap
Wibel emigration

Perhaps this may be of use to someone:
Emigrated from Poppenweiler, Kreis Ludwigsburg, Wuerttemburg, Germany:
Christian Wibel, born 4 Dec 1826, son of Jakob Balthes and Christine (nee Maier), emigrated to America 17 Jan 1854. His whereabouts were unknown until 1869 when he lived in New York.

His brother Jacob Wibel, born 5 Feb 1820, traveled to America in 1853. In 1870 he lived in St. Paris, county Champagner in State Ohio. Emigrated from there 21 Jan 1870? (hard to translate).

Other brother Adam Friederich Wiebel lived 1855 in Cincinatti in state Ohio without a set residence.

Information found in book, Chronik von Poppenweiler, by Theodor Bolay (pub. 1974). Should anyone be interested, there are other pages with the Wibel name as well.

Hello, yes I have a sister, Susan who is older than I am . I am 45 yrs. old and she is almost 47. I know very little about my family. I know that my father was married before he married my mother Leila. I also know that I have 3 half brothers...perhaps you? As to uncles I can't say for sure although your name is familiar to me. My grandmothers name is Grace Louise Villa and my middle name is Grace and Susan's is Louise. Dad lived in New Jersey and Grandfather and mother lived in Concord New Hampshire. I have a tiny bit of the family silver and a few pieces from when they died. My father was a terrible alcoholic and my parents divorced when I was 6 or so. I have pictures of the family, more of my mother than dad but do have some lovely pix of the grandparents. Who are you?
Jane

Dear Charles,

So sorry to hear about your wife, I'm sure you miss her terribly. I want to apologize for my last message - it has been frustrating being a Wibel as we never knew anything about anyone, medical history, cousins, etc. My mother was also very private and most of her family was gone so we have always felt a little isolated from family in general. I remember meeting Bill as a young girl. Dad left our household when I was six which would be 1961, we saw him over the years but never had a true close relationship. He was an alcoholic and died from it and other complications at UCLA hospital. I was the only person related to him at his funeral, no one else would go...I am a graphic designer and always liked to think that some of my artistic ability came from Herman, who knows! I am very curious about his work and wonder if there is a way to see any of it. He was a painter? How long was Woody married to your mother? I have some photos of him if you are interested. Thank you for responding, I always wanted a brother!!!
Jane Bartel

Hi,

I spell my last name Wiebel, but it seems not all my ancestors did. Apparently my great great grandfather, John C. Wiebel came from the Wibel family. He was born in Germany in Dec. of 1826, came to America in 1853-54, and lived in NJ and Long Island. I'm beginning to think I haven't found much on him because I was spelling the name my way.
Thanks. John Wiebel

L.E. Wibel was born Jan 11, 1882. I believe he might have been adopted, however, I'm not sure of that. I have a very old small black and white photo showing a large house and auto. The writing says Wibel home. Kirkland Ohio. My mother one of 4 children born to Larance Everett (not sure of spelling of the first two names) Wibel remembered living in Ohio for awhile. My grandmother, Emma Dee Garton Wibel was from Bluffton, Indiana where L.E. Wibel and she lived for most of their adult lives. L.E. Wibel divorced my grandmother and married Jessie. None of the grandchildren including me know anything about Grandpa Wibel. Please help.
Wibel Family History

Hello Wibels
My name is Mike Wibel and I and my family live in Oregon. I am just getting serious about researching my family history. I know that there are a lot of Wibels out there and I am sure that some of us must be related to some degree. My GGgrandfather I understand originally came from Solothurn,Switzerland. I understand that our name was changed from Weibel to Wibel somewhere along the line. Who knows why? They lived in Illinois I think around Quincy. I also indicate that they lived at times in Marietta, Ohio; St Charles, Mo; & CIncinnati, Oh. My grandfather Charles Francis, his brother Henry, a retarded sister Anna, my Ggrandfather John C. Sr., & Ggrandmother, Mary Almeda Parker Wibel, moved to Wildomar, in Southern California in 1897. John C. Jr. remained behind in Salem.I believe that any decendents of John C. Wibel would be our most likely connection.
I hope that some of the information above may catch someone's eye and we can make a connection. I look foreward to hearing from any & all.
Dear Jane:

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have a painting of my wife, Sandy by Grandpa. Unfortunately it was done after he had contracted cancer, so it is not up to his earlier form. I also have a photograph of his painting of Daniel Webster that he did for the submarine Daniel Webster. I have searched all over New Hampshire but to date have not been able to locate any other paintings or any of his industrial advertising material from when he had an agency in Concord.

Uncle Herman worked here in New Hampshire during the depression for the WPA and did most of the photography for a book called "Hands That Made New Hampshire" I was able to buy a copy on Ebay this past fall for around $45. Beyond that I do not have any material on Uncle Herman. One of his children has not made a very good name for herself here in New Hampshire so I guess we can leave that side of the family out of the picture.
If you would care to reach me outside of the message board, my address is P.O. Box 546, Farmington, NH 03835.
Charles Wibel

Sorry for the long delay in responding to your reply of April 21 but the site never contacted me of the posting. We are indeed related as woodie was my father. I last saw him in 1944 though we corresponded a few times. My brother Bill did meet him on several occasions. I had a very ggod relationship with Grand pa and Grand ma Wibel. They both attended our wedding in 1963. Unfortunately Grand ma passed away on the drive back to New Hampshire from the wedding.

I was married for 38 years. My wife passed away this past March 31 from Lou Gerigh's Desease. Not a pleasant four years. I reside in New Hampshire and am an antique dealer. My brother lives in Massachusetts and is also an antique dealer. Our mutual half brother is best left well out of the equation.

I just received an email from your sister re: the family tree. As you might imagine since my wife's passing, much in the way of papers need to be discovered and it may take a bit to uncover the document but when I do find it I will send it along.

Be brave, we don't bite and won't look you up unless you prefer? But, we are trying to put together some geneology here - nothing judgmental! If you are a half-brother, perhaps we met in California when you and Jane and I were teens? I remember strongly that Woody announced one Saturday that we were going to meet one of our brothers...and having only having a younger sister, I was so excited, having always wanted a brother...so what gives? Please respond, even if it is just text and info...do you have other brothers...we have picture of three boys born to Woody before his marriage to our mother?
