I am marrying a wonderful man with the last name Wiand. I was wondering the origin and meaning of Wiand. I have been trying for about a year to find out this info but haven't had much luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, by both myself and my Fiance'. Thank you

Sorry, this is over a year late. I believe it means something about the hand, I think "open hand." I remember coming across it in my family tree when I was younger. I would also bet 90% that it's German.

Thank you. Its ok that its over a year. I actually just got married on the 21st and its now my last name. My husband and I just weren't sure what it meant or what it was. Thank you so much.

Congratulations! I hope the ceremony was perfect! I asked my mom for our family tree book, so I'll try to get back to you soon when/if I can verify for sure the definition.

It is German, and its origional spelling is "Weindt". And I believe it is the name of a small town in southern Germany outside of Cologne.

Thank you so much. I appreciate any information that anyone has. Thanks again, Jessenya
