Many thanks for your reply-
Louise or Louisa or Lulu, as she was known in the family, was my Great Grandmother so we are distant relatives.
Since I posted this query I had a reply from another distant relative of this line and she was in posession of the comprehensive family tree for the Whybrow and Cogger families in Kent as far back as the seventeen hundreds. I presume you already have that information-the financial 'fall' of Louise's family etc? if not I can of course connect you to those in the family who have the information?
best wishes
Sam

His wife died back in 1946.
If at all possible I would appreciate a look at the picture.

Regards
John
john.cooke01@ntlworld.com

This morning I went to a graveyard in Mold Flintshire North Wales and took a picture of a headstone of an old soldier and then googled his name and found your message some details differ but I think they are the same person, the headstone reads: ARTHUR ALBERT WHYBROW (SGT MAJOR R.W.F) WHO DIED JANUARY 12 1927 AGED 63 YEARS WHEN THE NEXT BUGLE SOUNDS I WILL RISE AND MARCH AGAIN ALSO CATHERINE ANN BELOVED WIFE OF THE ABOVE. The age and birthdate are similar, his wife sounds welsh and it makes sense he could have been a sgt major, also on the genes reunited site it seems he is living in a Holywell there is a Holywell a few miles from Mold the birthyear is 1864 and place of birth is High Seas these details are from the 1911 census. It's possible he stopped using Adonis. Hope this helps.

I've found 4 different Whybrow families coming to Australia. So far, no connection can be made between them. One William in 1797, one William in 1824 (my main research), one George in mid 1800's & one John mid 1800's.
I have much information re: my main research and contact details for descendants of the others. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to pass the details on to you.
Hi Linda,

I don't think that we are related, but my Gt.Grandfather was married in St. Thomas Church at Woolwich in 1888 and on his marriage certificate it states the witnesses were a "Stephen William WHYBROW and a Mary Ann WHYBROW". My Gt.Grandfather was Henry Edward Archibald ARKWRIGHT (25)and he married an Ann(e) KEMP (24), as he states he was a Private in the C & T Corps on the Certificate, could he have been either in the army together with Stephen or just a friend. I have been looking for further information pre this marriage for a number of years but have not found anything yet.

The myth in the family is that hisparents thought he had married beneath him, and I don't think he gave the correct name of his father on the certificate, as there is no information on him either anywhere.

Do you have these people in your family, and has there been any mention of any ARKWRIGHT's, if so I would love to her from you with any sort of news no matter how small.

Best Regards

Jennie Harris
Hi Angela
I'm just researching my husbands side of our family tree. He is related to Williams son James. James emigrated to NZ and was an early settler in the lower South Island of NZ. He was commonly referred to as Captain James Wybrow. He was a whaler.
I have found that William was born/christened on 20/6/1774. He was a twin. His brother was Thomas. I know of one other sibling - Susanna born 3/1/1771.
His parents were Thomas Wybrow and Grace Cox. They were married on 26/2/1770 in Richmond Surrey, England. That's also where William was born.
I would love to hear of any information/stories about William that you may have.

Many thanks
Marilyn

Hi, I have an Adonis Arthur Albert Whybrow, probably born Dublin 1863. He was career Army, joining East Kent Militia at 15/16, then serving in Royal Surrey Regiment in India, where he married a Welsh girl then as Sergeant INstructor in Royal Welch Fusilliers on 1901 census. I believe his Father to be Charles. Any info greatfully received. Cheers & Happy New Year.

Hello Pam:
I don't have very much at all on Whybrows. I have a Louisa Whybrow who married John Thomas Young. They were my great great grandparents. Their daughter(my great grandmother) was born in Salisbury Wiltshire England and that was 1873. With a bit of math, Louisa could have been born between the late 1840's and 1853. They had Minnie and 3 sons too: Gus, Alec and ? Sometimes you wonder if they named their children after their parents.
I know this isn't much help to you, but one day it might be.
sincerely
Shannon

Debbie:

My grandmother Ellen Whybrow lived most of her married life at 4 Beamish Road, Edmonton. There were also some other relatives living on the same street. Her father was William Whybrow born 1824, her mother Martha Kirkin was born in 1849. I believe William had been married before Martha and had some older children by his first wife. I think that some of the other relatives on Beamish Road were Beatrice and Ada. Looks like there might be a connection we just have to tie it in.

Hi Kate Mary Ann Whybrow born Cheshunt Common circa 1865 of Lucas End Cheshunt is my great great grandmother she had a son called Mattie Henry Whybrow born at the same address in 1884. He was my gt grandfather.. Mary also had a daughter Harriet Whybrow and then 2 further children by William Goodchild, Ellen & Beatrice Goodchild. I do not know who the father of Mattie or Harriet was and they retained the Whybrow name. They seem to have spent a lot of their time around Beamish Road Edmonton. We may have a connection. Can anyone shed any light on Mary for me. I have traced a Mary A Whybrow born Cheshunt Common circa 1866 working as a servant to Richard Fish & family Leppitts Hill Waltham area.
Hi,
I have just found marriage records for a large part of Essex 1550s to 1750s at the library at Uni of Essex. I knew there was someone looking for these names, and I have spotted a few at least. I am happy to post details, as I find them.
Put a message on the Essex or Suffolk list, and I will respond as I spot them, lots of reading to do.

Best
Kevan

Dear Angela,

It has been a while since you posted, so I hope the offer is still valid ???

I've just started the Wybrow / Whybrow line in our family tree, and am hoping if I provide you with an outline of what I have put together so far, it may be one of the four you mentioned...

William Wybrow m. Elizabeth Crookshank 1809 Sydney
+ 5 children, Susannah, James, Mary, David, William

David Wybrow m. Mary A Dixon 1844 Sydney
+ 6 children, Elizabeth, William, John, Mary, Thomas, James

Thomas Wybrow m. Georgina D Garner 1874 Sydney
+ 9 children, with the two of particular interest to me being:

Louisa C 1877 m. William F Winston 1903 and,
Alice D M 1888 m. Sydney M Winston 1914.

The family story says the Whybrows / Wybrows came to Oz as convicts ??? I would like to know beyond William and Elizabeth if possible - and my Wybrow's "usually" use the spelling without the "h" if that helps.

Thanks for your time.

Michelle.

I don't know if this fits in with your research, but Whybrow does not seem to be that common a name, so here goes:

I have an Alice Whybrow b. 1888 and a sister Louisa Whybrow b.?. They married two brothers - Sydney Marlborough Winston, and William Francis Winston in the early 1900's.
My Whybrows are from England - exact location unknown, and reportedly came out in the First Fleet (unconfirmed). I have no idea of their parents or other siblings.

All variations such as WYBROW
WIBROW and others should be considered when
researching the name.

Mary
That shows too, that my Louisa married a Thomas Young.
I am disappointed that we don't seem to match up with dates and marital partners, but thanQ anyways for responding.

I am looking for the family of Jacob WHYBROW prior to my earliest research of 1909.

Jacob and his wife were in the antiques business in Sudbury, Suffolk, UK. Jacob was killed by a fall from his yacht rigging at Wivenhoe (I believe)in around 1890-92. They bought a bakery for their son Bertram in Sudbury which closed when a worker was killed in the great oven. Later history of Bertram and his family is documented.

Mary, hi.
I don't know where Louisa Young nee Whybrow came from, but I know that when my grt. Grandmother, Rose Alice was born (1873), the family was living in the sub-district of Britford...in the county of Wilts. The registration distict for Rose A.'s birth was Alderbury. (this is on Rose A.'s birth cert.) and it says that John T. Young, the husband of Louisa was living in Fisherton Anger, Salisbury. I'll have to get my detailed map of England out.
Thanks for responding so quickly
Shannon Calladine
