Hi, I am trying to find the parents of Effie and Edward Whybrow. Effie was born about 1872 in either Illinois or Iowa. She died 31 Jan 1960 in Mendocino County, California. Apparently she never married or at least at the time of her death, she was still known as Effie Whybrow. Her brother, Edward was born about 1874 in Iowa, most likely in Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa but that's just a guess. Effie and Edward's mother's maiden name was Brouhard and their grandfather was John Brouhard - born 26 July 1817 in Ohio. John Brouhard was married three times that I'm aware of. First to a lady named Mary Alice (maiden name unknown) abt 1838. They had 4 children named Nancy Ellen, Thomas, Cornelius, and Corydon Brouhard. Mary Alice Brouhard passed away about 1845 and John Brouhard then married Clarissa Cole on 14 Sep 1848 in Shelby County, Indiana.
They had just one daughter that I'm aware of. She was born about 1850 and named Mary Alice after John's first wife. It is possible they had another daughter named Clarissa Brouhard born about 1859 who later married a man named William Henry Tarrell Rominger on March 19, 1879 in Davis Co., Iowa, at the Methodist Parsonage. I don't know for sure if this Clarissa Brouhard is related to this family but considering the name, date, and location, it's seems likely that she is. John Brouhard's wife, Clarissa Cole Brouhard died on 20 July 1859 in Cleveland, Davis County, Iowa and John then married his third wife, Mrs. Martha J. Baldridge Cole on 13 Feb 1861. She was the widow of Shedrac Cole. John and Martha had a son named Joseph who was born about 1862. The 1880 census listed below shows Joseph and his wife, Martha along with their son Joseph and two grandchildren, Effie and Edward Whybrow. The surname is spelled Bronhard rather than Brouhard but it is definitely the right family. Bronhard was a common misspelling for Brouhard due to the cursive letter "u" being mistaken for an "n." Below that I have posted the California Death Index entry for Effie Whybrow. What I would like to know is which of John Brouhard's daughters was the mother of these two Whybrow children, what their father's first name was and if anyone has any information on this particular branch of the Whybrow family. You can contact directly at diane14sim@aol.com or post a reply to this message board. Thank you for your help. Diane Simpson
