Okay:
Green and Hannah Gray Whitford lived in Crown Point, NY during the summer that froze (after 1810- the last census). It is believed that because all the crops froze and people were starving, Green packed up his family and went "west'. There may have been as many as seven children under 18 at the time. Legend has it that Green died enroute, though no one knows where or has a clue. It is felt that they had not gone too far s Hannah came back to the Bridport VT area where her family lived. She did 'apprentice' her 6 yr old son, James Gray Whitford, to Thomas Jewitt of Weybridge, VT where he stayed until he was 20. I read somewhere that someone found a two page Methodist paper where James G Whitford named Green and Hannah Whitford as his parents. This may be the only paper where something like that is written.
Lovina (Malvina), my ancestor, was born in 1808 and was 2 yrs older than James. When she married Arphaxed d Crane in Bridport, VT, she was living with her aunt. James Gray, Hannah's brother, lived in Bridport, VT.
