In its issue of October 8, The Daily Times - Herald of Valley City, N.D., contains a column notice of the death of Mrs. James Whitcher, aged 73 years. Mrs. Whitcher, whose maiden name was Hattie Adeline Blackwell, was born in Waukesha in 1852. She attended the local schools and Carroll college and became a successful teacher. In 1876 she married James H. Whitcher, then employed at the Industrial school in this city and for a number of years worked with him at that institution. They went west in 1883 and look up their home near Valley City where Mr. Whitcher became county commission, county treasurer and later state senator.
He died in 1920. Mrs. Whitcher leaves two daughters, two foster-sons, and one brother, E. W. Blackwell of Chicago and three grandchildren. She was a active church woman and much beloved in her community.
