Nathan Whipple married to Mary Hill and daughter Mercy b. NY

Nathan and Mary Hill Whipple are my 3rd ggparents: There daughter Mercy Whipple married Phineas Walker. Mercy was b. in NY abt 1793. At some point Nathan and Mary lived with Phineas and Mercy in NY and then Phineas and Mercy Walker moved to MI. Phineas and Mercy had 12 children that I have found to date, all b in NY. At some point they leave MI and I have not been able to find them. So if anyone has info on these Walker/Whipple I would appreciate it. Now back to Nathan and Mary (aka Mercy and used Mary) Hill Whipple. I read through his Rev. War papers and found a letter from Mrs. Strutmeyer she is a descendent of the Walker/Whipple union where Mrs Strutmeyer requests info on Nathan and other Whipples. In this letter she mentions that the elder Whipple's lived with there daughter Mercy and Phineas Walker. She is trying to join the DAR and needs the maiden name of Mary Hill Whipple which she had foregotton. This the proof that I have that besides the sons mentioned in this document that they also have a daughter named Mercy, who married a Phineas Walker. I really hope someone can connect me to the right family. I have been looking for info on the children of Nathan and Mary HIll Whipple or at least a more complete list and I have scoured births in NY to no avail. I am also looking for the death place of Mercy and Phineas. I have found them listed in death records as the parents of various children. Mercy is often misspelled and is listed as Mera, Mrcy, etc. Hope someone can help me with both familys. I need Nathan's and Mary Hill Whipple's parents and also a more complete list of there children as well as Phineas Walker supposedly b. in VT or at least New England States while Mercy is b. in NY. Help please. Thanks Claricee

Does anyone have specific source information that tells when Elizabeth was born? She is the daughter of Nathaniel (1675 Rehoboth) and Elizabeth Jillson. I believe she was born 26 Sept 1718 @ Cumberland, RI and died @ Smithfield in 1803.
Thomas Ames (ca 1789 - 1875) m. Debora Whipple?

Once again I am working on solving my Ames line and think I have it now but in working with old info sent to me some years ago I find questions still to be answered. One of them is if Thomas Ames b. VT ca 1789 & who d. in PA 1875 had a first wife Deborah Whipple. No source given in the information sent to me and I cannot come up with this info by Googling or using Ancestry search. He did marry (second?) Harriet Havens that leads to my known Ames ancestry.

Your Rufus and Mary Comstock are buried in my Asa's cemetery plot in Sugar Hill. My mother was the daughter of Henry Sargent Whipple in Lyndonville. She had cousins in Newport VT that she went to high school with (Lyndon Institute). She would have graduated around 1943. Asa and Lydia are buried in Sutton but their son, Thomas and one of the Ash babies are also buried with your Rufus. Do you know anything about my Asa?

Hello Max,

My name is Barbara Newton. I found your post to Lisa's post on Rootsweb Message Board. The last contact I had with Lisa was 2005. I've tried to call her landline and cell and it doesn't exist anymore. He email, which is in the post, does generate any response when I email to it.

My family's direct line is through Johnston "John" Webster Whipple's wife,Sarah Catherine Witt. However, I like to expand the generations of siblings in case someone might be looking for a direct line.

I don't have a lot of info on the Whipple line, only what Lisa mailed to me. As you indicated in your post to Lisa, you didn't recognize any of the names she mentioned. I thought if you sent me your info I would know for sure if we might be related somehow. I did note that Lisa mentioned that Johnston had a son John. It could be through one of the children.

Lisa did not mention in her post Johnston's father; whom was Andrew Jackson Whipple and his wife, Nancy Jane Blizard.

I hope to hear from you.

No, there are only two Rufus Whipples in this line. There is no record of Rufus Whipple and Mary Comstock having a child named Rufus. The History of Richmond NH states that they had 11 children and lists them, none named Rufus. The death record of Rufus 1804-1889 states that his parents were Rufus Whipple and Betsey Gale. This has stumped people for a long time because no records could be found to confirm this. There is no record of a Rufus Whipple marrying a Betsey Gale. We believe that the death record is in error. There was a pension bill for a Betsey Whipple widow of Stephen Whipple and believe that this is in fact Betsey Gale who married Stephen Whipple not Rufus Whipple.

Betsey Whipple's birth record shows her parents as Stephen Whipple and Betsey Gale. There was also some confusion about Betsey Whipple, daughter of Stephen and Betsey. We found that she married her cousin Aaron Comstock Whipple and thus her maiden name and married name were the same.

Ida Whipple mulitple marriage search ideas needed

I have a woman (Ida Whipple) in my tree who was married apparently three times. (1) The first one she was widowed in 1910. (2) She remarried in 1911. Upon this marriage she was no longer found in the city she married in. No idea if this husband died or they divorced. (3) Woman found in directories & census with a different last name than the second husband & listed as widowed. She's back living in the city where she lived with the first husband & married the second.

I'm having problems thinking of HOW TO SEARCH for her between the second marriage & being widowed of the third husband. I had one idea of checking directories for where she grew up but there are none. I do not even know the name of the third husband.

Here's the names:
Ida Whipple
married
(1) Patrick Morrissey in Pownal VT 1903. He died 1910
(2) George M Bennett in North Adams, MA 1911.
No further records/residences until...
(3) 1920 Census, North Adams, MA, listed as "IDA MOORE" widow.
Further North Adams directories list her as "Mrs Ida Moore" through & including 1927. Her gravestone is "Ida Moore" died in 1928.

Ida was born in Berlin, NY & I have a feeling after she married Bennett that they moved to NY & when he "left" she married Moore in NY, but I can find no records for either Bennett or Moore.

Re: John Whipple wife Sophia Potter

I am also looking for information for John Whipple (born Rhode Island) and Sophia Potter, (born Coventry, RI). They had a daughter in Stamford, VT, Susan Potter Whipple, 5/10/1820. She married William Clark Walden and became Susan Whipple Walden (they lived in Williamstown, MA). I'm wondering if Almira might have been an older sister. We have a family legend of Native American roots in this line.
