I'm a descendant of a Sarah Ann Whailing who, by the records I have, was born in London, England in May of 1845. She married one Evan William Davis or Davies of Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan,South Wales around 1868. In 1869 they emmigrated to Hornbrook, Siskiyou County, California. They had seven children, three which survived childhood: Sarah Ann(b1869) James Evan(b1876) and Morgan Evan (b1881). I know nothing about this side of the family so I'm hoping you can help me fill in some details

My ancesters were Whailings and there is a link to Leicester. I understand that they were Romany gypsies.
John Whailing was My great grandfather and he died on the Lancastria. His father was William and Mother was Bridget. He maried Clara and ended up in Portsmouth.

If I recall correctly they were in Staffs too. I would have to look it up.

Thanks so much for responding to my query. I'm looking for lots of details on the ancestry of Sarah Whailing. I'm looking for her date of birth, her date and place of marriage to Evan William Davies and maybe some information on their only Welsh-born daughter also named Sarah Ann. I do know that Sarah was English born and married around 1868, had Sarah in 1869 and emmigrated to Siskiyou County, California later that same year. Any information you can provide would be a big help. My email is Carydavis@aolcom. Thanks, Cary
