I am also trying to research Welch family married to my James ancestors. They lived in WV and are possibly parents of your Welch but , like you ,I have been able to find very little information. I have an unknown Welch married to Nancy James, probably abt 1785. I know they moved from Northumberland co VA to Hampshire Co WV in late 1700s and had 2 daughters , Catherine and Elizabeth.
