My husband George has been typed for a Haplogroup and came up with R1b1b. We would be interested in other Weissingers, Weisingers, Wysingers, Wissingers, etc. having this same inexpensive test (around $100) to at least get us grouped into the various Haplogroups. My mothers side of the family is U5 and our Beach side of the family is also R1b1b, so this is very interesting to me. Replies and inquiries would be appreciated.

Melanie - will try to answer several of your questions. Really Bob Weissinger could answer the one about S. Carolina better than me, but originally, it was thought that there were 3 Weissinger brothers who came over at about the same time. Because of some kind of rift, one stayed up North and two went down to South Carolina or thereabouts. Just recently, I've read that this was incorrect, and that there were only two brothers who came over with this particular branch of the family. Grandfather of course besides being a clergyman was also a farmer and horse-breeder. I do believe some of your cousins did live around Lexington. I believe that I told you about someone named Wood Weissinger who came by and talked with George. I was sick at the time and didn't meet him. Thanks for the add'l info on other cousins altho the Lochners are the only ones that I recognized. Some of the pictures I have which have no names on them, I'm sure are probably some of these people. If you ever get to Kentucky, maybe we can piece our info together with the pictures and come up with something. Love. Cousin George and Nita

Hi Bob, Not sure if Nita has seen your message but she and I have confirmed we are relatives. If you recall, my Grandfather was Ernest Weissinger, the Son of Wilhelm Gottfried Weissinger. Nita's husband George is Ernests Brothers Son. I'm uncertain why Nita thinks GG Grandfathers name was William George Weissinger.

I have found something very surprising. I have found two Marriage records that list Wilhelm Gottfried Weissinger. 1st Marriage date 18 Feb 1869 in Cape Giradeau, Missouri to a Christine Toll. 2nd in 1871 with Anna Elise Rohje. I am trying to find something else to confirm the first marriage, specifically a Birth or Death record of Christine - No luck as yet. Melanie

I too have other names & addresses. I have a Minnie Heslin in Chicago, Illinois. Then there is a Emma Gordon in Louisville 14 KY & Margaret & Clarence Lochner in Louisville KY with Margaret & Kevin. Perhaps Margaret & Kevin are still living. Lastly, I have an Addie Walker in Louisville KY. If you recognize these names let me know. Melanie

Hi, I will try to send documents again using your Personal email address. As for Helen Scanlon & the address 3958 Dozier St., Helen Scanlon, was my Cousin, and the Daughter of Aunt Gladys Weissinger/Scanlon's. The residence of 3958 Dozier St. is where Grandfather Ernest & Lena lived. It was the house Ernest built & I think the home was the first to be constructed at that location. Three of their seven children were born in the home. Half of the house was one story & the back portion was two story. Grandfather built an appartment below the main house & Aunt Gladys. Later both Uncle Archie & even Uncle Raymond lived there at different times. As a child, I used to visit Nana Lena Weissinger every weekend. My mother would buy groceries weekly for Lena & Ernest - Of course I tagged along. Melanie

Hi Nita, I have heard of Alsace-Lorraine because my relatives on a Fathers, Mothers side came from that area. I find your info interesting because Ernest said Wilhelm Gottfried Weissinger came from Cannstatt, Wurtemberg Germany near the Black Forest. However, when you view the map Alsace-Lorraine is not too far from that general area. And knowing how much he traveled in the US, both areas and everything in between are probably a good guess.
In the email below you mention "South Carolina", except I don't know to whom you are referring. Can you explain further.
Sorry I'm jumping around answering your messages, but my connection today is very poor, probably because of the bad weather Hurricane Ike sent our way over the weekend. As to the area that the Weissinger's came from, I was always told that they came from Alsace-Lorraine which is a rich strip of farmland that runs between Germany and France. Ownership of this land has bounced back and forth between the two and wars have been fought over it. It's entirely plausible that they were all from "France" and as to Grandma Weissinger being related to a King of France - sounds good to me. Royalty in the family is always a plus! You're doing some good research. Just wish that I felt like digging, but I have to limit myself because of scoliosis of the back and also a rheumatic disease. As far as the family from South Carolina, I just don't know, but all my research points to Grandpa coming over on a ship to New York and then living with various German communities where he served as a Lutheran Minister. This kept him moving up and down the Mississippi River but he always kept going back to Wisconsin for some unknown reason. Weissinger was a very common name in Germany and there are many branches here in the U.S. that have little if any relationship to each other. If I find out anything new, you'll be the first to hear. Cousin George and Nita P.S. The Bob Weissinger who posts a lot online, is a pretty good authority on the family.

That's why we go back and DIG! I found an old piece of envelope that looks pretty old that show that someone in the family corresponded with a Helen Scanlon; 3958 Dozier St.; L. A 33, CA. Does this mean anything to you? Regards, Cousin George and Nita

Nita: After writing you two messages I did some research on J.D.Rohje. Then I decided to do some more on Wilhelm G. Weissinger & got a BIG SURPRISE. I found a Missouri Marriage Record 1805-2002 listing a marriage between: Wilhelm Gottfried Weisinger & Christina Toll on Feb 18,1869 at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Now when Ernest & Lena had their 50th Wedding Anniversary, Mom placed an advertisment announcing their event. On the day of the Anniversary, a Frau Matilda called & said she was Ernest half sister. Of course no one believed it - Now, I'm not so sure. I attached a copy of the marriage record for your review. With Love, Melanie

Hi again, As always I'm "Long Winded" :) Since dates aren't quite right I'm going to try a different approach in finding Elise's Mother. It'll probably be a Wild Goose chase but you never know. But before I begin, can you or George recall ANYTHING that was said about her parents. I know absolutely nothing about them with one exception. Lena said Elise thought they were related to a King in France. I have no idea why she said that - Do you? I do recall seeing a Census that lists Wilhelm Gottfried as coming from France. And if Johanna Philippiard Berens is our relative this may prove to be accurate because Hannover is near France. Tell me anything you know, "Stories", "Events", just anything at all that may help to connect the dots! :) With Love, Melanie

Hello Nita, I too enjoy this contact. Lena & my Aunts said we had relatives in KY but no one explained who they were. When I found your message board listing the names of Weissinger & Lochner, I knew you had to be a relation but I never expected to find George. No one here knew that Uncle Johann had any children. For this I am greatly saddened that we lost so much time in knowing all of you. But I'm determined to make up for what we've lost. I think Lena gave me the large photo of W G Weissinger & Anna Elise for this purpose. When you sent that same picture it CONFIRMED we were relatives - it left no doubt. Ernest kept the photo in his dresser & when he passed away my Mom & Lena went thru his belongings and found it. At the time, my Mother Martha had no knowledge of who they were. She had never seen the picture before. Lena had to tell us who they were. Afterward, I went up to her, pulled on her apron and asked if I could have it - She agreed. I plan on scanning our photos to put them on the Web. I have a scanner & software that will inhance the images. Maybe if other Weissingers see the pics they may be able to help us make the connection. Melanie

Thanks Melanie for the update. I always read your posts to George, but he doesn't get as excited about it as I do. What a wonderful service this is to be able to relay info back and forth to cousins and others doing research. You are really a good detective! I had to hire a professional to help me with my family. I have Dutch-Irish ancestors on Mother's side and English on my Father's side, so names were changed etc. I have spent over 20 years getting to this point, but since I had my heart attack, I just can't get out and do the foot work like I used to. I enjoyed it so much-traveling around and going thru the old records, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. If I had continued on that way, we probably would never have found you and Ray and other Weissinger relatives "in the flesh" to get to know and exchange info with. It's such a joy! As I said before, I am way behind in my posting, but I have a daughter-in-law who is really quick on the computer and she has promised to do some posting for me. Nice, huh? Give the family our regards and thanks again for the info. Nita and George

Nita: I also found rec of Anna Rohje marrying Frederick Springnether April 12,1863 in Jefferson, near End of Civil War after she received Pension. Ray Weissinger gave me info abt George Karl Weissinger.I found docs ONLINE from First Lutheran Church 19 W. 3rd, Chadwick, Illinois 61014. G K Weissinger was born May 18, 1886 and Christened Jun 6, 1886. Article said St. Paul Lutheran Church was organized 1860 but known as Black Oak Lutheran where various Pastors maintained the records in German script. It lists birth of Klara Anna WEISINGER on Feb 28, 1873. Chadwick is near Mt Carroll, IL. which is where Ernest said George Karl W. was born. MELANIE

Nita: I attached docs (1 per message below). I agree dates aren't quite right. Ernest Weissinger wrote, Anna Elise died 12/25/1921 @ Mitchellville Tenn. but Death Cert lists Simpson Cnty, KY and Burial was Mitchellville Tenn. He also said Clara was born Fri. Feb 28, 1873 @ Dittmars Store, MO. and so was Wilhelm Herman Immanuel Weissinger. Tonight,I found Emilie (Emilene) Rohje married a Henry Stulken on May 18, 1879 in Jefferson. Tried to find a Death record-To my surprise - I found listings of Marriages performed @ Dittmers Store-the same area. I think I'm on the right track. The Weissingers were near the Big River. I have more to say...... Melanie

Melanie -Big River Township is located in East-Central Missouri bordering on Western Iron County, South Francois County and Jefferson Co. Big River empties into the Meramac River opposite Eureka. I have a copy of the 1860 Census which shows John age 41; Ann age 42; Eliza age 7; Emile age 4; D. Rohje age 21; Jane age 19; and Jane age 4 months. It shows John to be a farmer and also he did upholstering. I have one question on your message. You have John and Johanna as being married Sept 4, 1859. Anna Eliese was born 3 Oct. 1854 in St. Louis, MO. and it makes me wonder. Where did your marriage date come from? Your cousins, George and Nita

Her daughter Laura was excited at what you had. Jewell is going in for Eye Surgery in Sept - She is 89 years old. I wrote to Charles Kreutzer, son of Walter & Isabelle - No reply as yet. Walter's address was in my Moms book along with Ruth Lochner/Kramer's. Signing off now - Take care and say Hi to George, Love Melanie

Thanks. You are correct, the Magdalena Chuttiar below Anna Magdalena Gutjahren the wife of John (Johann) Weissinger (1758-1809). It has been long thought that John Weissinger, along with 2 brothers George and Leonhard immigrated to Charleston in the 1780's. According to the recent work by Jim Petty, it is now known that only 2 of the reported brothers John and George immigrated to the USA. They had a brother Leonhardt, which fit the stories told, but he died in Weilheim never coming to America.

John and Magdalena's children are: Anna Barbara, Ann Margaret, John Jr., Leonard, Dorothea Elizabeth, Charles, and George. This line appears to be separate from the WESSINGER and/or WISINGER line in the same area. John and his brothers descend from Johann Martin Weissinger (1692-1776) from Weilheim, Nuertingen, Wurttemberg, Germany who married Anna Maria Fischer. They had 14 children - 3 which immigrated to the US and several which died as infants.

If you would like to exchange additional information, please contact me directly via email. Thx.

Hi Nita: Hope the "Stress Tests" went well and that you're both OK. Been doing research about Kentucky, Bed & Breakfast Inns, Scenic sights and the miles in between. I've read about Mammoth Caves, Birth place of Lincoln, Bed and an Inn called "The Hall" where Lincoln once stayed. It all sounds very interesting. My cell phone died - I bought a New One with a Camera - think it will come in handy. I added unlimited calling so I can call you more often. Then I searched the Web for the Cemetary you mentioned and found that it does list the names of our family members. I sent the page to my Cousin Laura, Jewell's daughter. Jewell was pleased to know the location - she never knew where they were. Thank you for sharing the information. I'll be in touch again soon. Take care. mst

Hi Melanie-sorry I didn't make my note plain. I get so excited when I find a little scrap of something. The Kreutzer's and the Balmain's lived next door to each other in Louisville on the 1900 census. Ward 3, Jefferson Co. I didn't realize that you had ANY INFO about Lena and of course, misspelling names on the Census was the usual thing :-) My maiden name is Beach and I've seen all sorts of spellings for that. I am hopeful with the expansions going on with the Family Tree program that we will learn more as time goes on. Talk with you again soon. George is fine. Took him to Doc yesterday. We had awful rain last night and still today. Expecting snow tonight. Kentucky weather in March is really "iffy". Good luck hunting! Cousin George and Nita Beach (Taylor, Johnson)

Hi Nita:
Nice to hear from you and I'm pleased George liked his Birthday Gift. I told the Family I've made contact with you. My email address is on the bottom of the letter I sent to George. I'll send it again that way I'll know you have it! As for the Balmain's, don't think the Kreutzers & Weissingers resided next door to ea other; except for Ernest & Lena. And I'm pretty certain that none of their children were born in Germany. I personally knew most of Lena's siblings. Good try though - I wouldn't have considered looking at the neighbors. I do know the Kreutzers had a General Store probably located in Kentucky. Give my Best to George! I'll be in touch soon..........MST

Sorry, I hit the wrong button and sent your reply before I had finished my complete findings. Balmain family living next door were also from Germany. Father was Frederick W. Balmain b 1845 and Wilhemina Balmain b. 1850 with two children Bernard and Ernest both born in Germany. It makes me think that Lena's mother may have been a Balmain, but not sure. James Kreutzer and Wilhelmina Kreutzer were both listed as born in KY. with both fathers from Germany and Wilhemina's mother from Germany but her father was from PA. Maybe you can research this further. If you don't mind sending me your email address, I can correspond with you directly. Nita

Hi Cousin! Am working online after 10 days of flu, so tho't I'd look at your last post! Bye the bye, George loved his birthday card and gift. That was SO sweet of you to welcome him into your circle of cousins in such a lovely way! I can't tell you how big his grin was! He's dying to meet you. As regarding the Kruetzer family; I'm surprised that Ray or his sisterinlaw don't have this info, as Ray gave me quite a bit of his family history. The heck of it is that I typed it into my old personal Family Tree Program and somehow when I switched to this blue tooth computer, I can't get the darn thing to print. So I'm trying to get in touch with a local Apple computer whiz to try and retrieve it for me. Hopefully this will be soon. All I have on on Lena M. Kruetzer is that she was born 2/25/1888 in Kentucky. But I'll keep looking. Talk with you again soon. Nita

From this I've been slowly gathering data. Who & how are we related? Who was George's father? Do you think Louise will chat too? Also, would you happen to know Wilhelmina Kreutzer's MAIDEN NAME? I can't find her Birth or Marriage Record. When she died the name on record was Minnie Maker. I think this is wrong. HELP! I will probably drive you both crazy I have so-oooo many questions. Oh, I forgot to say I live in California, very near Ray & Mary.

Sorry it took me so long to reply-my husband George and I are both heart patients and have been undergoing tests. We're so glad to meet another of my George's cousins. You mentioned Nelle Coryell and Maurice. We were close friends until their deaths and still correspond with their daughter, Louise, who lives in Dahlonega, GA. Her last name is Germeroth - husband's name is Don. They have children but I can't remember their names. We have been corresponding with another of Uncle Ernest
s grandchildren, Ray and his wife Mary who live in Westminster, CA. We have pictures of the family that we would love to copy and send to you if you'd like. As far as my computer file, I may have to print it out and snail mail it to you. So good to hear from you.
Jim Petty assembled a the complete male linage of all Weissinger families in the town of Weilheim an der Teck, Württemburg, Germany, 1558 - 1900. All info is from the Weilheim Evangelische Kirchenbuch as recorded on LDS microfilms. I have a link on my web site to the data, but the link is (worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=weilheim). A lot of Wiessinger's received the name by virtue of the town they lived in and some were even perhaps given this name by immigration officials as they entered the USA.

I only asked about the George - Gottfried since LDS-FHC has a marriage record for a George who married Anna Elise Rohje. Probably a data entry error on their part (which is not uncommon).

Changing the name to Wiesinger certainly opens up a lot of possibilities search-wise. The flip-flop between Wiesinger-Wiessinger-Weisinger-Weissinger-Wessinger-Wisinger-Wissinger is not uncommon and certainly makes research very difficult.

Ancestry.com has a large collection of US immigration data including the New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957. These should be checked and possible matches. Copies of the immigration documents can be printed when found. Unfortunately, I do not have a current subscription to this service.

Bob:

Wasn't able to use BOARD when I arrived home - Internet was mal-functioning. Gained access at 1:00 am.

You said: In the comprehensive Weissinger's of Wilhelm listing by Jim Petty, there are NO Weissinger's born in 1840 that came to America. That's is unfortunate.

What you do mean by "of Wilhelm"? Wilhelm is his first name. Is that what you are saying? Also, who is Jim Petty and where is this comprehensive list.

FYI: I just found my Grandmother and Grandfathers Marriage Records. His last name was mis-spelled. It reads: Wiesinger.
Her last name reads: Krentzer. Her REAL NAME was KREUTZER.
This is part of the problem. Additionally, many German families gave their children the same names with minor differences.

Again: My GREAT GRANDFATHERS NAME was: Wilhelm Gottfried Weissinger. His son Ernest Weissinger wrote his fathers name, mothers name and ALL of his siblings (11 children in all). Five of the children died as babys.

Wilhelm Gottfried was Married to Anna Elise Rohje on 27 DEC 1871. When he died at 69 years of age he was married (three days less than 38 years) according to Ernest Weissinger, my Grandfather.

As for his arrival to the USA, I have not yet published anything on the site. How do I do that?

In the comprehensive Weissinger's of Wilhelm listing by Jim Petty, there are NO Weissinger's born in 1840 that came to America. That's is unfortunate.

Is it Wilhelm George or Wilhelm Gotfried WEISSINGER ? There is a Wilhelm George who married Anna Elise ROHJE on 27 DEC 1871 in Saint Louis, St Louis Cnty, Missouri.

On the New York passenger list for 1820-1957, there are two Wilhelm Weissinger's who imported. One is a Wilhelm Gotfried. I don't have access to this database. If you do, please publish the data. If not, I recommend you try to get this data.
Hi

Haven't heard from you as yet. I'd like to compare notes Re: The Weissinger and Lochner Families. I have two pictures: One is Wilhelm Gottfried Weissinger the other is his Wife, Anna Elise Weissinger. I also have other Family pictures. But because I am the youngest of the Great Grandchildren, I don't remember who they are. One picture has the names: Babe, Bud & Sis. Do you know these people?

HELP!!!!!!

Hi Bob

I went to link and indexed date of Wilhelm Gottfried Weissingers death along with the number of months and days. It does not give a space for Weeks, so I just assumed ea. week contained 7 days. Then I added the additional 6 days. I used the Georgian Calendar and the Date of Birth is: February 27, 1840. Of course this may not be absolutely accurate. But it is better than using only the Year.

Based upon what I have told you, do you think you can find anything about him?

Thanks. But, one need the date of death to make this calculation. There is a nifty web page for this at (www.searchforancestors.com/utility/birthday.html). Let me know what you come up with using this.
