Further investigation has confirmed that Anna Janette's maiden name was Swanberry. She also had a daughter, Orpha, who was younger than John Jacob Weiser, and who had a different father (Monn) who died Jul 31, 2004 (Daytona Beach, Florida.) Unrelated information shows that Orpha had two children, the daughter named Donna, unknown son's name. She had been married to Albert Kump. Albert Kump was not the biological father of Donna and the unknown son.

I was in an antique store in Georgetown, Texas recently and they have a baby book for a Mary Josephine Weiser born in Hico, Texas on April 27, 1910. It's quite extensive, and has a lot of information on her and her family, including pictures. If there is anyone here related to her, it would be quite a lovely keepsake. I think the store was Rough and Ready Antiques 602 South Main Street Georgetown, Texas (512) 819-0463. I'm pretty sure this was the store, it was an antique store right off the square downtown. I wanted to buy it and save it but they were asking $150 for it.

I have absolutely no connection to this family, I just wanted to put this out there in case someone who was connected wanted to try and find the book to buy it.

A great grandmother of mine, Elizabeth Claig, has her father listed as Jos. Wm. Conrad on the death certificate. She was fortunate to live to the age of 95 in Warren County, VA. Her birthplace is listed as Pennsylvania in the year 1765. Her mother is listed simply as Canada. Could there be a connection to the Weiser family? Thanks.

Lost trying to find a Weiser/Wiser family...

My mother, who is deceased, was adopted in 1949 in California. My grandparents, who adopted her, knew of the family she came from and I have a framed newspaper clipping from June, 1951 of my blood grandfather, John Wisor with his daughter, Margaret Wisor who is 3 in the article. This was in Vallejo, California. Later in life we met my real grandmother and at least one aunt (maybe Margaret?), and her sons, when I was 7-8. Also I know that sometime in the last 7-15 years my mom showed me an obituary for her father, he had died in a vets home in Yountville, CA. I have been looking for days and days. I would like to see if I have any family because my moms adopted family and my father and his family are all gone now...I am 40. I can hire someone online for 300 dollars but I just do not have it now. Also, I have been looking under both spellings, I have a feeling the newspaper may have spelled it wrong, but not sure. Can anyone give me any tips? I have tried all the obvious and not so obvious in the many, many hours I have been searching,
Thanks.

Dear Diana:
My paternal grandfather was George Wilson Weiser. He was the son of Abraham Haines Weiser and Harriet Krieger Weiser.
Abrham and Harriet also had two other children John Guillespie Weiser and Hannah Weiser. I know that my grandfather has passed in 1986, John Guillespie at 4 years of age and Hannah, I do not know date of death. My grandfather was related to Conrad Weiser, you probably are also. He lived in Shamokin until the depression and then in Philadelphia, then back to Shamokin when he retired with my Grandma. There is a published geneology of Conrad Weiser. He has a park named after him near Wormelsdorf, PA at his homestead. You may be able to contact the historical society to find out where you can get information on Conrad Weisers ancestors.

Since this posting about 11 years ago I have done a lot more research. A year ago I started a web site dedicated to sharing information on Wisser families. You can find it at:

WisserFamily.com

Here are some of the other family names on the site:
Cornell, Hammel, Kraus, Bredbenner, Downs, Grim, and Vogelsang

Hopefully you can find something there that you find useful. If you have something or someone you would like to ad, please contact me at the address at the bottom of each page.

Happy hunting,
Gary A. Wisser

Lauch family of New Oxford

I am a direct descendant of George Lauch (near Oxford) and Christiana Flickinger (Abbotsstown), who were married on 13 August 1840 by one Rev. Mr. Sechler at an unknown location.

I learned from the LDS website that George Lauch was christened in St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover on 21 June 1818. To verify this I purchased the 1741-1831 records of St. Matthew's from Picton Press, forwarded by the late Rev. Weiser, which on page 131 indicated that George's parents were "Johan Lauch and wife". Please note that the Lauch family changed its name spelling, for unknown reasons, to the current "Lough" sometime in the mid-19th century. Based on the birthdate for George Lough (who died in 1882) on the grave stone in New Oxford cemetery which calculates to be 10 August 1817, we believe this to be the same Geo. Lauch who was christened at St. Matthew's; however, the church record (p.131) indicates George's birth date as 25 Aug 1817.

We have been attempting without luck trace the origin of the Lauch family in Southeast Pennsylvania. All we do know is that George's parents were either one George and Magdalena Lauch, or were John Lauch (consistent with St. Matthew's records) and Mary (Stock) Lauch.

I also did purchase the Digges' Choice booklet, but could obtain no information from that resource.

Any information such as verification of church records, marriage certificates, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

John Lough

I am descended from Jonathan Weiser and Magdalene Diener through their son Lewis Weiser (b. 14 Feb 1817) m.Catherine Herb. I believe that David Weiser of Oley Township, Berks Co., PA may be Jonathan's grandfather, but I can't seem to find any information or any links. He (David) originally came from Germany and married Maria Catharine DeTurk.

Is there anyone out there that can shed some light and help me trace backwards?

unidentified "Wiser" (Weiser?)

The will of John Grant Sr. (b. 15 Aug 1736 in PA, d. 8 Jun 1804 PA) of New London Twp. Chester Co. PA mentions a "Wiser" (no first name given) in conjunction with a bequest to one of his daughters. Evidently Grant Sr. strongly disliked his son-in-law, for he wrote:
Item. I Will and Devise to my daughter Elizabeth Wiser the sum of fifty pounds it is not my wish that the Money be paid into her hands for fear her husband will make use of it I leve it in the discretion of my Executors to ______ [intrust?] it to Interest and she to draw the Interest yearly for her and her childrens support or to lay it out in real property so that her husband cannot make it away from her."

Does anybody know the identity of the Mr. Wiser/Weiser who married Elizabeth Grant (b. Jun 1763) of Chester Co. PA? One of Elizabeth's brothers, John Jr. (b. 1769)of Bucks Co. and later of London Britain Twp. Chester Co., married Susanna Ames; another, William (b. 1771), likely married Mary Lukens, a Quaker. A third brother, Horatio (b. 1778), remained on the family farm in New London Twp., eventually moving to Philadelphia a few yrs. before his death. A sister, Ann, married a (James?) Patterson.

Would much appreciate a lookup in Weiser Families in America to see if Elizabeth (Grant) Weiser's husband can be ifentified.

Karen karmtayl@indiana.edu
Re: Weisers buried in Hamilton, OHIO--Greenwood Cemetery

The Weiser Families in America lists Samuel Weiser on page 1723. His code is GW213. This is in a chapter on the descendants of George Weiser of Maxatawny and Greenwich Townships, Berks County, PA. He is not known to be related to Conrad Weiser. The following page lists 16 descendants of Samuel and Catharine Roseboon. The youngest of these would be 95 if still living.

George Weiser, grandson of the George mentioned above, is Samuel's father. George had two wives, Sarah and second Elizabeth. It is not clear who is the mother of Samuel.

I find nothing on Julia Weiser or James O'Connor although it is quite possible that they are descendants of George.

The youngest descendant of George listed is Margo Evelyn Stefan born 10 Mar 1939 in Chicago. No further information is available on her.

Thanks to Karen Wheeling for posting this within another thread, but I thought that maybe I should re-post it with a new thread name to make it easier to find for people.
The brochure and the souvenir photos were originally supposed to be featured on the front page of weiserfamily.org, but our group was unable to successfully contact the member running that site and gain her cooperation. My apologies.
The brochure - with all the information about the 300th Anniversary events, souvenirs, registration form and contact information is below. This isn't how we expected to handle it, but it's all we can do presently.
The Facebook site is quite nice and I urge people to take a look at it and join.
Laura McQuaid

I'm trying to get scans of the brochure up there, too, so people can read read specifics about the reunion events, read descriptions of events and souvenirs, see how much the souvenirs are and find out how to buy them and register for the reunion. One has to be an administrator to post photos to that particular facebook site, so I'm waiting to hear back. I think the brochure should be on there soon.
This is not the ideal way to do things, as weiserfamily.org is supposed to be our official family association site, but this is all we have to work with presently. I had every confidence that the webmaster of this site was going to take care of this.

I am a "life-time" member, for years but have not heard a word from the Weiser Assn. for several years. Why would we pay to belong? Can someone refer me to the proper person? I am connecting the Weisers/Ubeles to the Rahms, Earnests, Yosts, Potts, VanBlunk/Johnsons, Sommers, Higgs etc. Thank you. Jeanne Holder

Weiser 2010 Reunion Brochure and Keepsakes

Responses to attend the July reunion need to be returned, yet, unless I'm looking in the wrong place here, I still don't see the brochure nor photos of any of the reunion collectibles and keepsakes for sale. What happened? This site was recently made the official Weiser Family Association website and I was one who heavily advocated for that decision. What happened and can this quickly be rectified?
Laura McQuaid

ATTN: Rev. Nelson R. Sulouf

I sent you the information about the reunion as attachments to three emails. Unfortunately your ISP rejected them as spam as they did with an email to let you know.

What do you suggest? Do you have another email address?

Al Achtert

aachtert@icdc.com
