As you can see, there may be variations of the names incorrectly logged in at the time of arriving in New York.

My ancestors from my mothers side came from Italy. Michael Giuda sailed to Ellis Island in 1892. His wife,Antonia,(antoinette) came a year later with their first born- Joseph or Guiseppe. They ended up with eight kids. contact me if you need more.

Joseph (Guiseppe)went to a Boston court to change the "Giuda" name to WEEDER.
Hello Kristy!

Sorry I just noticed your post today 4-21-2011, and I hope you get this message. I am James Tobin,my mother-Victoria Rose Dewey, and her mom, my Grandmother, Victoria Margaret Weeder married Perley Ansell Dewey, and her parents were Michael Guida (weeder) and wife, Antoinette Caporale. They had about eight kids. Victoria M. Weeder(b.1898, d.1962 in California)

I've tried to research the two passenger ships that brought Michael Guida over to Ellis island back in 1892,on what was belived to be the "LA MAGGIORE" on August 2. And about a year later, Antoinette and baby Joseph(Guiseppe)sailed on "LA SCALA" in may of 1893, but i could not find neither ship in the ship lists. I have more. I just started back into this again. many nice people on these geneology sites help alot. post back. rivrratjim17@yahoo.com

Origin of the name Weeder

Hi

My name is Keith Weeder, son of Claude Weeder whose father was William Weeder.

As mentioned by my "uncle" in a previous query, I know all the Weeders in Cape Town and most likely throughout SA are related but I too am interested in where the name came from, which country it originated from and possibly also see how far back I can trace the family.

John Weeder (?Veeder, Vedder, Wedder?)

I am looking for any connections to John Weeder, my great grandfather who came from Interlaken, Switzerland prior to 1858. He and 2 chums supposedly stowed away and came to American when they were to go to England to school. They met "an old man" from Louisa, KY on the boat and went there with him to settle. I don't know the other boys names. John Weeder (aged 28)married Mary Susan Billups in Louisa, Ky in 1858/59. Their 4 children are William Tell, b. 1860; Catherine, John (Jr.), Mary Susan "Mattie", b. 1867. He served in the CSA 8th VA Cavalry and died ~1870. I am looking for other descendants as well as other researchers who may have traced their roots to Switzerland, especially Interlaken.

John Weeder or John Veeder

I am looking for any connection to my great greandfather, John Weeder. He originally lived in Interlaken, Switzerland. He and 2 friends stowed away and came to America when they were supposedly on their way to England to school prior to 1858. They met "an old man" on the boat who was from Louisa, KY and went there with him to settle. He married at age 28, in Louisa in 1858. I have no idea how old he was when he immigrated as a stowaway. Do any of you Veeders have an ancestral connection that goes back to Switzerland? Nor do I know the original spelling for his name. He is in the 1860 WV census, but died ~1869. I always thought he might have stowed away following a close or distant relative who had immigrated earlier.
