Hey cousin I think we may have exchanged communications a long time ago. I am sure you heard of Josephine dying from giving birth to triplets. Your name is Patricia right? I am looking thru what I have on my family tree and see you as a source. I think I remember a story about one of the Wechters dying in Toledo from smoke inhalation or something. I have photos of Josephine's sisters Rosina, Frances and Blondina Remele. My email is wabnoles at yahoo dot com.

Well my 3rd great grandmother was Rosina Remele Frey. Her parents' names were Lorenz and Josephine Reuter Ruemmele/Remele. Lorenz had a brother named Josef who married Elisabeth Schnurr and had a family of 11 children. I think we are related... how far back can you trace the family tree? Lorenz and Josef were the sons of Laurentius Ruemmele and Maria Kunztelmann.

Oh, I have been trying to figure out who Joseph was and why he married Rosina Scheible (Polk County Press 4/10/1875 and then disappeared. I did see in Ancestry.com that he went to Minnesota. So, you must have found that information. Now, where did Jacob go, when did he come from Germany?
I would love to get connected. Do you have information you could send. Let me know the cost. I have been "absent from the search" for awhile and am eager to get started again, plus I have others who are very interested.
These names popped up on the Polk County Press April 10,1875, Mr Joseph Remley and Miss Rosina Scheible of the town of Farmington were married. I could not figure out who they were. My husband's great grandfather is Johann Remley (spelled a variety of ways even on his naturalization papers) and grandmother Maria Magdalena, but it appears she may have gone by Lena. They came to Ohio in the 1850's, at least Johann did, and then migrated to Wisconsin. They were married there in 1856. (Farmington twp. Polk County) Apparently a lot of the Remley's came to Ohio first. One of Mary Magdalena's sisters came to New York first though.

My Remele/Remley/Ruemmele family originally came from Zell im Weisental, Baden, Germany before settling near Norwalk and Sandusky, Ohio. Lorenz Remele came here with his family, and at least one brother, Josef, had his family here too. They spelled their names Ruemmele while Lorenz and his son spelled their names Remele. The Ruemmeles were involved in the newspaper business in Sandusky and one of the oldest Rudolph was a florist in Sandusky. The only son of Josef Anton Ruemmele to live outside Ohio was Josef Anton, Jr., who was residing in Indiana in the 1880 census with a wife Louisa and two daughters Mary and Wilhelmina.

Not sure about the Turkish connection... I did not even know I was related to the Remele/Ruemmele/Remley family until I started doing genealogy. Rosina Remele Frey, sister of Josefa and daughter of Lorenz, was my 3rd great grandmother.

Another thing that was mentioned to me was that 14 generations back or so there was a Remley who was Turkish. For the longest time, it was thought to be a myth, but a relative went to Turkey and actually found the headstone of a Remley buried in the 1600s. Who knows?

Also, Johan Reummele married a Caroline Hurst who was also born in Baden-Baden and is buried at the same place as he.

Her mother was French and escaped to Baden during the French Revolution, so I guess both Johan and Caroline would have been born in the late 1700s? My math is bad, but I am trying to use SOME logic as to when the French Revolution would have taken place and when their son, Frank was born.

I know nothing about his parents.

He had a son named Frank Jacob Remley who was born in Polk Co., WI in 1861 and was buried at Bone Lake Cemetary outside of Luck, WI in 1927. I have pictures of his headstone. One of his daughters was my grandmother.

I am guessing that this is just coincidence but my mother's maiden name was wechter, and she married a cohen, his mother's name was sultana arrived at ellis island 1922 with my father. I do not really know much about my mother's family, the wechter side. Supposely her family came from a village in russia, had two brothers hymie (spelling) and lou. several sisters including one named bessis but I don't know what her married name was. (She live in florida and died there in the 60s) Like I said just coincidence with the closeness of the names, including my father's name which was isidore (not isadore) my mother's name was fanny wechter (fay)

Leon Cohen

Hi Andrew,

Pat Butler actually contacted me a few months ago and we have been exchanging information, so anything that you have she has probably already sent my way. Would you by any chance know where George L. Wechter fits into the family? He was married to Celesta Frances Pifher, who was actually a niece of Clara Cecilia (Pifher) Wechter, who was Frank's wife. I am related to the Pifhers and thus both of these Wechter lines. If you have any info on the family of George that Pat Butler would not have had, I would definitely be willing to exchange info on my side for anything on them.

Thanks for your response,
Noah Graf

Joseph and Amelia had 12 children: Josephine, John Andrew, Elizabeth, Mary, Frank, Rosenia, William, Amelia, Charles, Patronilla, Linus and Gertrude.
Yes, Frank Wechter, my grandfather, married Clara Pifher. They had 12 children--Joseph, Anthony, Bernice, Alfred, Delores, Florence, Edna, Art, Martha and Frank, plus 2 who died shortly after birth-Herman and one I cant think of his name. M.C. that you mention is probably Martha Celestina-my Mom. Only Martha, Delores and Frank are still living. My grandparents had a farm over by Norwalk. One of my cousins lives there now.I have a full notebook on the Wecters and one on the Pifhers. My geneology info is not on computer--all in notebooks.

Wechter and Pifher Families of Ohio

I'm searching for the families of two Wechters who married two Pifhers. Frank Joseph Wechter, 1882-1968, married Clara Cecilia Pifher, 1883-1973. They had at least two children, Albert J. and M.C. and lived in the Norwalk, Ohio area. I know nothing more of their descendants.

Clara's niece Celesta Frances Pifher, 1901-1987, married George L. Wechter, 1900-1985. I do not know how George is related to Frank, though it is likely he too is a nephew. Celesta and George had 12 children: Catherine, Janice, George L Jr. (died WWII), Margaret, Beatrice G., Jerome, Norman W., Helen, Joan, Louis, Ann May, and Alfred S. (died young)

If anyone has any info on descendants, please please respond. I would be glad to share the info I have (mostly on the Pifhers).

Thanks,
Noah Graf

I did not know she had a twin. Josepha is buried in Norwalk Ohio in a small cemetery behind a shrine on Main street. She is buried with her triplets -I have their names at home--all died at birth and she did too. I have some pictures and lots of info at home. Can you email me.

Percy Wechter

My widowed aunt, Theodosia Elizabeth Tedder McMullen, married Percy R. Wechter in 1948. They lived in Perry, Taylor County, Florida, but he came from South Florida and had a sister in Tampa named Hattie. Percy was born 2 February 1899 and died September 18, 1982. In his younger years, before moving to Taylor County, he followed construction work and was a operator of a barge mounted dragline in the construction of the Lake Okeechobee canals. In the 1930s, after the canal project had been completed, he moved to Taylor County where he engaged in f arming in the Shady Grove area. Percy served in the U. S. Army during World War II. In 1948, he married Theodosia Elizabeth Tedder, widow of Russell E. McMullen. They lived about two miles north of Perry on Highway 221. Although handicapped by a lack of formal education, he had g ood mechanical and construction skills and was endowed with a sense of business acumen. Dosia, who was some ten years his senior, died on July 31, 1973. Perhaps depressed over the loneliness in his life and the illneseses that accompany old age, Percy took his own life on September 18, 1982. He is buried next to Dosia in the Pleasant Grove cemetery in the northern part of Taylor County, Florida.
I am writing a biography of Percy and Theodosia for the Taylor County Historical Society and would like to have more information on his ancestors.

Russell Tedder
5019 Timber Creek Circle
N.
