I am looking for information about Mary Leland Webster’s parents.
According to the 1850 Jackson County, Missouri census, Mary was born about 1792 in Virginia. I don’t know what county in Virginia.
She married Joseph Brown in Bedford County, Tennessee about 1811. Mary and Joseph lived in Coffee County, Tennessee then moved to Clay County, Missouri, then Jackson County, Missouri. Joseph died in Jackson County August 1848. Mary moved to Fannin County, Texas with her daughter Ann/Anna about 1859. Mary died in Fannin County, Texas in January 1862.
This information was found:
Franklin County, Winchester, Tennessee
There is a pension record for Joseph Brown for service in the War of 1812. W.L. 49557.
The affidavit was dated 7 May 1855 and was made in Clay County, Missouri, by Mary L. Brown, age 63 of Clay County, Missouri. She swore she was the widow of Joseph Brown, who was a private in Capt. George Smith’s Company (Tennessee) and who was in the Battle of the Horseshoe, Tennessee and called the Creek War; that he (Joseph Brown) volunteered at
Winchester, Tennessee for three months-served 14 days; received an honorable discharge at Fort DeParte or Fort Shothe and that she married Joseph Brown in Bedford County, Tennessee, Aug. 16, 18–. She was not sure of the year, but thinks it upwards of 35 years ago. They were married by a Baptist Preacher, James Walker, and that her name before that was Mary L. Webster. She further attested that Joseph Brown had died Aug. 1, 1848, in Jackson County, Missouri.
Samuel Tilford and Jackson Sissom were the witnesses and had known Joseph Brown and his wife more than 30 years.
An auditor’s slip indicates that Joseph Brown served from Dec. 24, 1813 to April 3, 1814.
James D. Davidson of Clay County, Missouri testified as a neighbor to both.
Joseph Brown’s probate information mentions Mary Leland Brown:
