I have a copy of a history of the Webb family written by Dr. Robert Dickins Webb in 1894. Dr. Webb states that Hiram Webb of New Bedford, Mass. had in about 1884 told him that Hiram had a copy of the Webb history dating from 1544 to 1730, but Dr. Webb wasn't able to obtain a copy due to the death of Hiram before he could. I wonder if anyone in Hiram's family line could possibly have this stored some place collecting dust. As anyone can calculate, it could be over 120 or more years old!!!!
Dr. Webb states that a Henry Webbe was "my well beloved and trusty servant" of Catherine Parr while Henry VIII was conducting the siege of Boulogne in 1544 A.D. He believed that the Webbs of America were descendants of this Webb.
Dr. Webb also states that the line of Webbs in the U.S. came about as brothers from Wales arrived between 1640 and 1650. One's name was Christopher. I can't tell from his info if a third brother came or he speaks of the second brother whose name might be Micajah or William--as one family tradition said Micajah while another tradition said William. He said the Northern Webbs were from Christopher's line and then gives a rather lengthy group of Webbs who are what he calls the Southern line of which he was a part.
My only problem is that there is no mention of the Webb I'm looking for--Elisha Webb's parents. My Elisha Webb was born in AL, Marion County, we think. Aren't sure about the county.
