I have been reading all these postings on John Alfred Weatherford. Altho I have a lot of info on the Weatherford Family, I have only seen one Alfred mentioned and he was Alfred Wetherford (note spelling) on the 1840 census of Dale Co., Ala.

Since no one seems to know any dates (birth, etc.) on John Alfred, I estimate he was born during the period 1990-1800. Likewise, his wife Celia was born circa 1795. I estimate they married circa 1815 (where ?).

Some posters say John was born in Coffee Co., Ala. That is wrong because Coffee Co., was formed 12/1848 from Dale Co. (NOTE: Alfred Wetherford was in Dale Co. 1840).

Regarding the ideas about William (Red Eagle) being John Alfred's father, Red Eagle married Mary Stiggins circa 1817, long after John Alfred was born. Their son was John Stiggins Weatherford, born 1819.

The Alfred Wetherford in Dale Co. in 1840 may have been John Alfred.

Some researchers say John Alfred died 1848 in Mississippi (what county ?). If that is true, I feel wife Celia was already dead by then.

It is my best guess that John Alfred was born in Mecklenberg Co., N.C. and his parents were William Weatherford (b. 1759 and died 1850 in Wayne Co., Tn.)
and Margaret Ann Polk. She was born circa 1760 in N.C. and they had at least 11 children.

The reason I feel John Alfred was their son is that on a printed document I have on William's family it says "son John later moved to Mississippi."

Supposedly John Alfred and Celia had about 8 children, including son Charles born 1822.

Maybe I am all wrong in my opinion expressed here, but possibly it will provide some "food for thought".
Thank you so much, actually you gave me alot of good information. I have been searching for information on John Alfred Weatherford and trying to connect him to Red eagle as well. I have found nothing. I was told that my great grandmother Milly was the daughter of John alfred. Which would not be correct? Your information leads me in another direction. Have been stuck for a couple of years on this. I appreciate the help breaking down that wall I have been facing.
He married Celia Ann Carter. They had one child, a son named Charles who was born in 1822. Charles married Ardenia Elizabeth Rose. They had 3 children: Sarah Francis, Richard and Thomas. Sarah married William McDonald and they had 10 children. Their daughter Mary Ann married James T. Gordon. They had 5 children. Their daughter Emeline married John McCoy. They had 5 children. Their son James married Guthrie Rustin. They had 4 children. Their daughter Nancy is my mother. That's probably more than you wanted, but I've been researching several lines for my family.
In Zadoc Weatherford's "biography" of 1940, he said William Bazel Weatherford's father was William Weatherford and his mother's maiden name was Flannagan.(Since Zadoc was born 1888 and obviously had conversations with his older relatives, I assume he knew what he was talking about.)

On the 1880 census, William Bazel, his brother Leroy, and sister Obedience (Biddie) all said their parents were both born in South Carolina.. That seems to eliminate your Richard, who was born in Ga.

I assume father William was born about 1782 and mother Flannagan about 1786. They married circa 1804-05, probably in S.C. Then they immedialtely moved to Wilkes Co., Ga. Where is S.C. ?was they born? My guess is Spartanburg or Darlington Counties..

I hope this gives you food for thought.
Hi, Bob,

I thought Leroy and Andrew Jackson were brothers of William Basil (Bazel, etc.) Weathertford, b. GA ca. 1806. They all moved to AL. Do you have ANY idea who their parents were? They ALSO had brothers Mart and Harris, per Zadoc Lorenzo Weatherford's "biography".

I WANT their father to be Richard Weatherford, b. 1781, Augusta, GA, who may or may not have gone to Bahamas with his father Martin VA 1728. and second wife Isabella, ca. 1783 after being banished from GA for being a Tory.

Weatherford DNA Match

Hi, My name is Mary Nell Burnett,I have three Weatherford DNA matches. I am fairly certain it is through the Wilkerson Weatherford line. My Rhoda (?) was the wife of Barnett Burnett of Pittsylvania, Mecklenburg and Essex Counties, Virginia. Time period 1770 to 1808. It’s been passed down through Barnett and Rhoda’s granddaughter that her grandmother was a Weatherford. The granddaughters name was Rhoda Weatherford Burnett; she was the daughter of Godfrey Burnett, son of Barnett and Rhoda. Her name is on several deeds and also on a will in Arkansas where Godfrey and his family moved to around 1855 from Henderson County, North Carolina.I have identified a John and a William Weatherford living in the same areas as the Burnett family in Virginia during this time frame but have not been able to place a daughter who may have married Barnett Burnett. My 3 DNA matches are to Wilkerson Weatherford's line, he is in the right age bracket to have been a possible father for her. After 20 years of searching I would love to give Rhoda a family. It's possible she could be a lost daughter to Wilkerson ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Mary Burnett

TN 1811 and Milberry _______ unknown

BB was born ca. 1837. IL

He had a son William and a son Perry Davis in Dallas County, TX. It looks like William TOOK the name Perry from his brother (who may have died?). BEWARE: William Perry Weatherford
wrote a "notarized" piece that has only partial truths--he said that Jeff was U. S. Senator, whereas he was early Texas State Senator. He said that B.B. was U. S. Marshal, whereas he was County Marshal. He said that the family was descended from Creek leader William "Red
Eagle" Weatherford b AL 1780, whereas they were distant cousins.

Anyone familiar with the Weatherford's? If so, can you please help me? In particular Harden Weatherford b. 1816. Married Matilda Lee b. 1814. They are my GGGrandparents. I've researched that they were from Boyle/Lincoln Co. KY. I've not definitely confirmed where they were born. Harden M. Weatherford b.1760 d.1837 and married Rebecca Dowdy b. 1756 were (I think) born in VA. I'm not too sure if I am following the right line. I think I'm right but....not getting enough information to know if I am right. More like speculating.

Elias' siblings vary from researcher to researcher, but the most likely list is : Mart, Harris, Joe, Elias, John, Alfred, Roland, and Obedience. Some researchers add Leroy and Andrew Jackson to the list, but these are incorrect. They were born after Capt. James Weatherford (Elias') father died.

Elias' children were: James David (b. 1814), Nancy (1815), Benjamin (1818), Samuel Henry (1820 or 1824 ?), Charles (1822), Heamick (1826), Caroline, and Watson. Possibly there was an Elizabeth born ca 1820. I couldnot find Heamick anyplace. Maybe he died as a child. Bob Eddings.

Ron, William Weatherford born circa 1835 in Ms. seems to be a mystery man.. Altho I have a lot of info on Weatherford's (Wetherfords), I have never seen a William W. (or Wetherford) born 1835 in Ms. On the 1850 census of Itawamba Co., Ms. there was a William Weatherford , born 1835, but his parents were 'Phebe" and Samuel. Young William was born in Ala.

The 1850 census of Prairie Co. , Ark. apparently wasnot included on the 1850 U.S. Census. ON the 1850 state census of Prairie Co. was listed a Weatherford Family. I don't know the birth years for the children, but the parents were Martin and Hannah Weatherford and they did have a son named William.. Bob Eddings

Re: WEATHERFORD LINE

Altho I have a lot of info on the Weatherford Family, and over the years have spent several hours trying to determine the parents of Manchester Weatherford, I too (like other researchers) have never found his parents. However, I really don't think it was Archibald. He was too old.. Since Manchester wasnot listed on the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census', his parents wouldnot be listed either. With his not being on any census it is almost impossible to trace his whereabouts. Here are the "facts" I have found on him, primarily on the 1900 census of Bell Co., Texas.

He was born in Ala. (where?) in 1845 and apparently died in Bell Co. during the 1920's. He said both his parents were born in N.C. (I estimate his father was born circa 1810-1822 and his mother circa 1815-1825.) He married Mary E. (Mollie) Wooten 12/24/1865 in Lawrence Co., Tn. Thjeir children were born several years later: Joseph M. (1881), Frank (1883), Clarence (1885), and Georgia (1887). They were all born in Tn. (where?). Maybe in Lawrence Co. That was quite a gap between the marriage date and the children's birth dates. Usually the first child is born within 2 years of the parents marriage.

On the 1840 census (looking for Manchesters parents or grandparents), it seems all Weatherford's in N.C. were in Caswell Co. Maybe his father or grandfather was Thomas, James, William, or Hiram. Hiram was born 1794 and the others maybe were born about the same time.

Regarding Mary e. Wooten's parents, they were J.B. and Rhoda Wooten. J.B. was born 1813 and Rhoda 1823, both in Tn. They married circa 1844-45 (where ?) and their children were : Mary E. (1846), Martha (1848), Xantha R. (1850), Sarah J. (1852), Lucinda (1855), and Frances R. (1859 -a girl). On the 1850 census they lived in Lauderdale Co., Ala, and the 1860 census they were in Lawrence Co., Tn.

I guess this is about all I know. Hopefully it will you some food for thought. Bob Eddings - no relation.

Below are my comments regarding your Tabitha Weatherford.

The William Weatherford who married Mary Robertson 12/3/1778 had a daughter named Tabitha (born 1792) who married John Collins 5/31/1830 in Lunenburg Co., Va. This wasnot yourTabitha Weatherford.

Your Tabitha was born circa 1791, possibly in Ky. (maybe this isnot true) and died before 1830 in Bedford Co., Tn. She married Elias Guin circa 1807-08 (per other researchers), possibly in T

Elias Guin was born 9/11/1783 in S.C. and died during the 1850's in Macoupin Co., Ill.. I don't know his parents, He was in the 1840 and 1850 census' in Macoupin Co. On that census was listed : Elias (b. 1784), Elias Jr. (1837), Joseph (1833), Lucinda (1828), and Sarah A. (1810-Tn.)

Son William was there too and was listed as: William (b. 1812), Rebecca Lucinda (1833), James H. (1837), Elias Jr. (1841), and wife Jane M. (1813).

Getting back to the 1850 census of Elias, remember that wife Tabitha Weatherford had died before 1830, children Joseph was born 1833 and Elias Jr. was born 1837.. Obviously, Sarah A., born 1810 was Elias' second wife. They married circa 1831-32, possibly in Bedford Co., Tn.

Hopefully, this hasnot confused you too much and gives you food for thought. Bob Eddings

Note: Other records state William's son as
Mastin.
William's sister Mary Weatherford who married John Robertson, was present at her brother William's and his
wife Mary Robertson's marriage.
Notes for MARY R OBERTSON:
Mary filed for William's Pension for Widow of William application # 3179 and was granted on 17 Jul 1840. It
stated the children's ages in Nov 1839 as being Judith 60, Joseph 59, William 55, Polly 52, Josiah 51, Jonas 49,
Tabitha and Peggy being twins age 47, Ann 44, Mastin 41, Hillery 39. The children were attested by Benjamin
Evans who had married Elizabeth Weatherford in Lunenburg Co., Va. 1791.
More About WILLIAM W EATHERFORD and MARY R OBERTSON:
Marriage: 03 Dec 1778, Cumberland Co., Virginia

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/18294694/person/1136503751/me...

What I noticed is that Tabitha is referred as Tabitha Collins

Another site has Tabitha being daughter of William Weatherford and married to John Collins.
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/a/p/Dorothea--H...

I found two sites listing
John Collins married to Tabitha Weatherford Hillery Weatherford 5/31/1830
http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/lunenburg/vitals/marriages/...
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vascvgs/archives/lunenburg...

Some of my relatives list Tabitha's death in 1830 and that she was still married to Elias Gwin who moved their 10 children to Macoupin County, Illinois.

This has to be a different Tabitha Weatherford
my ancestor, William Gwin was born in 1812

I found this showing Tabitha Weatherford married Elias Gwin
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=WorldMarr_ga&a...

Manchester Weatherford would be my G-G-grandfather through his son James Thomas Weatherford. My grandfather was Eugene T Weatherford son of James. I am pretty sure he lived with a relative named Isaiah Wetherford in Lawrence county AL in 1850, As Isaiah is only 30 at the time I am sure he is not the father, I however am not able to find Isaiah anywhere else to connect Manchester too. I was able to find Isaiah's wife in the 1860 census but neither male is listed. I would like too know where you got the information that Archibald may have been the name of Manchester's father?

Thank you,
Jamie

Re: Do I have the correct line of Weatherford's?

Bev, I havenot answered earlier because my computer was screwed up and I took it to a repair shop. Now it is working. I am not related to the Weatherford Family, but my wife's mother was a Weatherford, so I know something about that family.

Your oldest known Weatherford was Thomas Whitheford (note spelling)who was born 1585 in Warwickshire, Eng. He did die in Eng. but I don't know when. He married Margaret Waring 11/30/1608 (or 1609) and they had 5 children, including your ancestor, son John.

John was born 1615 in Warwickshire and died 4/1706 in James City, Va. He arrived in America during the period 1635-42. He married (who ?)circa 1644 in Va. and possibly only had 1 child, your ancestor William Whitheford.

William was born circa 1645 in York Co., Va. and died 1732, possibly in Henrico Co., Va. He married (who ?)ccirca 1674 and they had 7 children. Their children changed their name to Weatherford. One of their children was your ancestor, son William Jr.

Wiliam Jr. was born 1678 and died 1756 in Lunenburg Co., Va. Circa 1699 he married Susannah Waller (she was born 1680) in New Kent Co., Va. They had 5 children, including your ancestor, John Weatherford.

Son John was 6/9/1700 in New Kent Co. I don't know when he died. Circa 1724 he married (who ?) and they had at least 2 children, including your ancestor, son John Jr.

John Jr. was born 1726 in Pittsylvania Co., Va. and supposedly died 1793 in southern Indiana. (Starting about 1790 some of the older Weatherford's moved to southern Ind. Their children were there too. Some died later inJefferson Co., Ind. Other Weatherford's died in Jefferson Co., Ky. Some researchers get those dying in Jefferson Co., Ind. and those dying in Jefferson Co., Ky. - mixed up.)

At this point, who was the ancestor of your Hardin Weatherford (born 1816) gets confusing.

John Weatherford Jr. (1726) had a son mamed John (born 5/5/1747) and a son named Hardin (born circa 1754). BOth son John and son Hardin had a son named Hardin.

Son John/s son Hardin was born 1785 in Pittsylvania Co., Va. and died after 1860 in Jefferson Co., Ky. His wife was Elizabeth, who was born 1783. I don't know their children, for sure.

John 's (1726) son Hardin (1754) died circa 1837 (where?). He married Rebecca Dowdy 12/5/1780 in CUmberfland Co., Va.

Backing up a little, John WEatherford (1747) was married twice. Once to Hannah and once to Joanna Overstreet. Researchers don't seem to know who was wife #1 or wife #2 .

As you can see, determining who was your Harden's parents is confusing. My best guess is that his parents were the Hardin born 1785 and wife Elizabeth, born 1783. I might be correct -or wrong.

Since your Hardin was born 1816, the 1820 census showed 2 Hardin's in ORange Co., Ind.; 1 Hardin in Jefferson Co., Ind.; 1 in Shelby Co., Ky. Possibly your Hardin was born in
Shelby Co., Ky.

As you can see the subject of Hardin Weatherford is confusing. Your ancestors up to John Jr. (1726) is straight forward, then it gets confusing. I hope I havenot confused you too much. Bob Eddings.

Re: St. Elmo Glover Weatherford Jr.

I am not related to your Weatherford family, but thought I would see what I could find about St. Elmo's ancestors. Here is what I found.

The oldest Weatherford I found for this branch was William Weatherford, born 1874 in Berkeley Co., S.C. I don't know when he died. In 1895 he married Margaret (Maggie - I don't know her maiden name). She was born 1880. They had the following children, born in Charleston Co. :William (b. 1896); Charles ( 1899); Harold (1901); Leona ( 1905); Susie (or Sarah, 1906); and St. Elmo (1916).

St. Elmo, born 1916, possibly died 1974. Circa 1934 he married Mildred (maiden name ??). The only children I could find who were born before 1940 were St. Elmo Jr. (1936) and sister Deloris (1937). Apparently they did have some children born after 1940.

Possiby the parents of William (1874) were Jno. and Caroline Weatherford. Bob Eddings
