I am looking for the parents of Ashford Weadon b abt 1812 in Loudoun Co., Virginia and died bef June 1900. He was on the 1880 census but on on the 1900. He was married twice. His first wife was Laurinda (surname unknown) and his second wife was Molly O'Bannon. Molly was the mother of Paul Ashford Weadon Sr. who is my husband's grandfather.

I know Ashford was a shoe maker and owned property. I've heard that Ashford was in the Civil War, but I haven't found a record of his service. I don't know who his parents or siblings were. If there is a diary, a family bible or personal history that would give us more information I would appreciate it.

Regards,
Carol Weadon

Carol,

Any luck with your inquiry? Ashford was my great-great-great grandfather (by first wife Laurinda), and I've been seeking answers to these same questions. I have discovered that Ashford's parents were John and Margaret (nee Calahan), married in 1813. Also, you might be interested to know that Mollie O'Bannon Weadon is buried in the Ebeneezer Church cemetery in Snickersville (now Bluemont)
VA. We visited it last week. Mark

Thank you so much for your help. Ashford has been one of those dead ends I have come to in my research. Do you know if Ashford's father spelled his name Weadon or Weedon? I was told it was Weedon, but Weedon and Weadon seemed to live in the same counties at the same time.

I am also interested in Laurinda. Who were her parents and where were they from?

This is just great. I can't thank you enough. I have a photograph of Ashford, Molly and the three youngest boys, if you are interested. I would like to find out anything you know about Ashford's family, his children and grandchildren. Any stories you might know would be great. I've heard so many things and can't prove any of it. I've heard he was in the Civil War, but can't find a record of it.

I would be happy to share whatever I can, if you are looking for any of the lines I'm following.

It is late right now and it has been a very long weekend. I will get back with you on Tuesday, if that is alright.

Regards,
Carol Weadon

I have been doing research on the Smallwood line in Virginia. Sarah Jane Smallwood married Enoch O'Bannon who were the parents of Mary Rebecca. Apparently Mary (Mollie) and Ashford did not marry until he was in his 60s, and had only the one child together, Paul Ashford, who was an editor with the Associated Press in Philadelphia. I did find Ashford in the 1850 census along with his first wife and children. I did not find a civil war record for him that I was certain of, and he would have been nearly 50 when the Civil War started. He owned 8 slaves in 1850 and 2 in 1860. Good afternoon Ms. Weadon, my name is Andrew Zois.

I am 36 and live in Annapolis, Maryland. My grandmother was Frances Lee Weadon, born 1915, in Snickersville, VA. She was the middle child of Vivian and Peggy, and their mother’s name (my great-grandmother) was, I believe, Ruby Bell (may have been a nickname). I believe as well, that my great-grandfather (name?) was born on 2/22/1889 in Snickersville, and died on 11/30/1946. His Father, Ashford Weadon (my great-great-grandfather) died 9/24/1894. My sister remembers growing up hearing stories about "Mollie O’Bannon". I believe she was my mother’s great-grandmother.

Anyway, I hope some of this makes sense to you. I am desparately trying to learn about my family’s history.

I hope I didn’t bother you ma'am. Thank you very much for your time and have a wonderful day.

Ashford and Mollie had four boys and Mollie became a hotel keeper in Mt. Gilead. The 1900 census show her and three of the boys, Lee, Charles and Clifford, living in the hotel. No less than 16 folks are registered in the hotel and all appear to be railroad workers. I did not find Paul Ashford in the 1900 census. I am continuing to work on this line.
