My mother's side of the family are Weads. I have a Wead genealogy back to Ebenezer Wead, Sr. to 1751 in Pennsylvania. In this tree is a James Scott Wead (b. 1819, d.1848) who married Abigail Gowdy (b. 1822, d. 1905). They lived in the Green/Montgomery County, Ohio area. They had two sons that I know of: Alexander Gowdy Chapin Wead (b. 1844, d. 1914) and James Cyrus Fitzgerald Wead (b. 1846, d. 1928). I have not yet pursued either of these two son's families. They may be family clues for you. Ebenezer Wead, Sr. was a large land owner in Dayton, Ohio in 1796 (farm in what is now Kettering and Oakwood area). I would be interested in exchanging information with you if you want. I also have photographs of James Scott and Abigail Gowdy Wead. In my Wead research I have found the spellings, in records as Wead, Wade, Wayd, Waid and Waed (probably all in the same general family). My mother used the spelling Wade because she didn't like being called "Weed" in school which is the way some of her classmates called her.
