Years ago I spoke to Nellie Wdowiak on the telephone. I'm in MI. I also recall seeing Metro in the census and believe that he may have been the brother to my great grandfather, Joseph Wdowiak of Nart Stary, Poland/Austria. Joseph also had a sister named Anna who resided in Passaic, NJ. We are also related to the Rembisz/Rambus/Rambis family of Wilkes-Barre and NJ and I've just found out we're related to the Pyryt family of Passiac, also.

Joseph Wdowiak was born about 1880 and came to the US in 1901. He married Kordula Korzepa Straub in 1905. He was listed as the step=brother to August Rembis in Wilkes-Barre and also found out that he had a half-sibling named Adam Fataicher. I'm still bugging my grandmother for info and blurbs come out once in awhile.

Keep in touch. You never know.

L.

My Wdowiaks are from the village of Dudynce which is close to Sanok, now in southern Poland. How far is that from the village of your ancestors? They were Greek Catholic and the Family History Library has the microfilm of church records.

I read your website. Excellent. I think somewhere there is a link as August Rembish (later changed to Rambus) was my great grandfather, John Wdowiak's stepbrother. It's obvious one of John's parents married August's father or mother, but I don't know which, yet. They resided in Edwardsville and John, when he came to the US in 1901, listed August Rembisz in Edwardsville as his destination.

If my memory serves me right, I spoke to Amelia Wdowiak years ago trying to piece this puzzle together. John also had a sister named Anna Wdowiak Drost who lived in NJ but I've never been able to find her and her son, John, on the census.

Did you ever find the ship manifest for Metro Wdowiak and brother, Nicholas? I believe now that my g grandfather, Josef Wdowiak, brother Wojciech (George), and sister, Anna Drost who all resided at one time in Passaic and then Edwardsville and Wilkes-Barre are related to your Wdowiak's but would like to see the manifest but I'm going nuts trying to find your relatives.

My husband Glen Wdowiak is 57. His Grandfather was Joseph Wdowiak. His Father was John who passed away in 1967. He does not know much of his family history. His Mother is also deceased so he has no one to ask. His family is from Passaic and Clifton. He does have an uncle Fred living in Clifton who is still alive and may be of some help. He believes his uncles given name is Ferdinand Wdowiak. He was young when his parents moved the family to the west coast so he is not sure. He only remembers his as Uncle Fred. Hope this helps.
