Hi Heather and (Kerry),

I'm Maryann Flaherty, granddaughter of Catherine V. (Waterworth) Raney. Are you my Uncle Tom Waterworth's grandkids? ...or greatgrandkids?
If you are, please accept my belated condolences for the loss of Kay and her son Tom as well as his wife Pat. I remember them all from a very young age (I'm 50). It's unfortunate we lost touch so long ago. My mother Mary, Catherine's only child, died when she was only 41. You mentioned Mary Boyle below and that she had a "load of kids"...I seem to recall and not sure if it was an exaggeration, that my mother told me I was named after my grandmother or great grandmother, Maryann, who had 23 children...could this be her and could it possibly be true? Do you have any additional info on her? I see it's been a few years since you have posted this but I hope you will find it and respond...maybe you are related to Uncle George Lacourse...I see that Kerry made reference to a Gerorge--he was always fun...is he still with us? Thanks for the info below and anymore you can send, I have very little for my mother's side of the family.
Best Wishes and Thank you.
Sincerely,
Maryann Flaherty

It's possible he was from Blackburn in Lancs but not sure. He would have been born between 1788 & 1790. I can provide a lot more info about his trial etc if any help but I have absolutely no info on his birthplace/date or parents & would love to find out.
Regards
Eric

Eccles, Manchester Waterworths

Does anybody have any information on a Waterworth family who owned a paper merchant business late 1800s/early 1900's around the Eccles area of Manchester. They appear to also have been around Cheshire and they were involved in the paper/twine business around Manchester.

The earliest names I have are John Waterworth (b abt 1803) and Amelia ??married in Lancashire around 1828 with a son Herbert (b abt 1833) who married an Irish lady called Emma ?? around 1857 in Lancashire. They had a son John Waterworth (b abt 1858) who married a Martha Jane Brown around 1889 with the marriage registered in Prestwich Manchester. He in turn had a son John Leonard Waterworth (b 1890) who moved to North Battleford in Saskatewan, Canada and had a family of 4 with an Elsie Cheney until after her death in 1827 in Canada before returning to UK in 1938 with a second wife Mary Pearson Jennings whom he married in 1936 in Toronto in Ontario. John Leonard Waterworth actually returned to Canada after Mary's death in 1974. John Leonard and Mary eventually owned a Greengrocers shop believed to be in Eccles after he finished working in the family paper business after returning from Canada.

Yep, though I do not currently know them so it will not help to confirm anything.

Now I just have to start trying to find info. about John Haworth Waterworth's Wife, who apparently may have French ancestry somewhere, just to make it even harder!

I have his wife's birth certificate (10th October 1913?)luckily, Eva May Waterworth formerly Hawker, and her mother Sarah Elizabeth Pashley, and father Henry Oliver Hawker, but apparently that name may have been anglicised from the French. It says Eva May was born in Kent and the 1911 Census does contain a Sarah Elizabeth Hawker, and some children, but no mention is made of a husband.

Sorry, just rambling, as I'm new at this!

Thanks for all your help,

Toby :)

Hi Kim,
I'm not familiar with the UK map yet, but I am part of the American Waterworth's that came from England.

My Grandmother was Ethel Waterworth
Her Father's name was Nathan Waterworth and was born on November 4, 1882. His birth certificate was difficult for my Mother to read to me, but the information on it, is as follows:

Nathan Waterworth
DOB: November 4, 1882
Parents: James Waterworth and Elizabeth (Cunliffe SP?) Waterworth
Hadfield
Sub District of Glossop
Registration District Hayfield (Hadfield???)
Born at 395 Station Road
Hadfield
County of Derby
Entry of birth filed in Somerfield, England.

I don't know if you have any connections to these other names in your search so far? I can only go back to as far as Nathan's parent's names. My Mother said that she heard that they came to the USA when Nathan was around 10 years of age. They came to Massachusetts.

If you feel there may be a connection, I hope we can help each other out, feel free to contact me. I have (what I think) is a lot of useful information (obituaries, death certificates etc.) that we may be able to tie together.

I hope we're on to something here!
Kerry,
It's your little Sister, Heather. I don't know if Mom gave you the information, or not, on Nathan (some of the "sisters" recalled his name being Nathaniel) our GGFather? She has his birth certificate and she had no idea where she got it from. I thought you gave it to her. I guess this is why I called you last night and just now remembered and I'm posting it here so I do not forget again! It's VERY detailed but she had a hard time reading it to me due to the photo copy/age/writing? Here it is:

Nathan Waterworth
Born November 4, 1882
Place of birth was 395 Station Road (Google Maps will show you a street image, pretty cool)
Hadfield (could be Hayfield?)
Sub District of Glossop
County of Derby
Entry of birth was filed in Somerfield, England
Parents: James Waterworth
Mother: Elizabeth (Cunliffe SP?)Waterworth

As you know, he married Mary O'Boyle from PA and our Grandmother gave them a LOAD of grand-children!
