Thomas Washam was my 3rd great grandfather. His daughter, Sarah Ann "Sallie" Washam (Dec 1839-Bef 1920) was my 2nd great grandmother. She was married to James J. Brown.
This is a little late to the party but Jasper ended up as my great great grandfather. He left my great great grandmother in the 1930s. I've been trying to find what became of him and thought maybe he'd have kept in contact with his daughters from a previous marriage, Irene and Elinora. I thought they were Rhoda's girls, but I'm not so sure.

This is a stab in the dark. I'm trying to find the maiden name of my 2nd great grandmother Matilda who maiden name may possibly be Washam or Worsham. She was born 12 March 1812 in MD and married Allen Gatewood Caywood. They had 10 children. 5 were born in TN, 1 in IL, 4 in IA. Allen died in 1855 in Wapello County, IA. Matilda died in 1881 in Montgomery County, IA.

Were there any Washam families in MD around 1812 with a daughter, Matilda?

Its been awhile since I've visited here. My tree is Torpey-Washam in ancestry.com, Heidi_Draffin. Mother is still alive, daughter of Charles ELMER Washam, grandaughter of Fernandes and Sarah Jane Donner. I've spoke to the tuttle/washam team working on the Washam history. I still have a few questions. Mother has always been scatter brained and she told Larry Washam that Charles' daughter Martha, was adopted by him in his first marriage. Jeanette Saunder has told him that there was a child from his third marriage to Hester. Mother doesn't know anything about such birth. Hester was Charles' nurse up until his fatal stroke. Charles' had another woman in his life between Almeda and Hester - the girls we sent to Catholic boarding school (they were protestants however)and when she came home this woman would never let her in the main part of the house, she had to stay in a room off the kitchen. I am curious to know who that was.

George Lane Washum

I believe George Lane Washum is in the 1870 Mt Zion, Grant Co., KY census as George Washam age 27 b KY farm labor, p553 & in the 1880 Grant Co, KY census as George Washum age 32 b TN farmer.
In 2001, Brandon Simpson wrote: "The GGgrandson of George Washum, I am told that George Washum's original name was Tom Lane. He used to live in NC. Some guy stole his horse, so he confronted him and killed him. Then he moved to Grant Co, KY. George's wife's maiden name is Sarah Elizabeth Osborne. She is buried in Mt. Pisgah Cem. George died in Lakeland Mental Institution in Louisville."
He also may be in the 1850 Graves Co, KY census as George age 5 b TN living with his father W. Worsham age 36 b VA.
How did you find Jasper Reynolds and do you have more info on Sarah Elizabeth Osborne? I found her in the 1900 Downingville, Grant Co, KY census as Elizabeth Washum b 10/1847 KY, widow with 9 childrern & 9 Children living.
I have 5 children but not 9.

Re: Washam Bible 1823 NC

I believe this Washam family is connected to the Washam's of Mecklenburg Co, NC. In particular Alfred F. Washam 21 Oct 1831, I believe is from Mecklenburg Co. I would be interested in reviewing a copy of the Bible page if possible and in particular the Hazy? Washam 27 Jan 1834.

Alfred is in the the following census:
1850 Prosperity, Mecklenburg, North Carolina census as Alfred Warshauer (census name is actually Warsham) Age: 20 North Carolina
1860 Western Division, Mecklenburg, Co, NC cens, Alfred Warsham age 27 NC farmer, p114,#884
1870 Deweese, Mecklenburg Co, NC cens, Alfred Washam age 36 NC farmer, p148
1880 Dewese, Mecklenburg Co, NC cens, Alfred Washam age 40 NC NC NC, 111,35

In the 1850 census he is living with Frances Warsham who I believe to be his mother. In our book, Worsham and Washam Family History, we wrote about Frances and her husband Branch:

"BRANCH WORSHAM b abt 1795 Mecklenburg Co., NC md Frances Sloan 7 Sep 1815 Mecklenburg Co., NC with James Sloan Bondsman. On 13 Apr 1819, Thomas Barnet sold to Branch Wassum 112 acres for $150 located on waters of Rocky River being a tract that the widow Dicey Wassum now lives. He is listed in the 1820 Mecklenburg Co., NC Census, p 38 with males: 1 under 10, 1 16-26; 1 female 16-26. On 16 Sep 1834, Robert Richens of Cabarrus Co., sold to Branch Washam of Mecklenburg Co. 76 acres in Cabarrus Co. & Mecklenburg Co., on Rocky River. He d before the 1850 Census of Mecklenburg Co., NC where Frances is listed as Frances Warsham with her children on p 52, dwelling 845. Frances is age 55 b NC. Alfred Alexander age 3 is also living with her. Perhaps he is a grandson. Alfred Alexander is age 12 in the 1860 Census with Alfred Worsham & Harriet Worsham, p 196."

I have not found any information on the Parnel name connected to Mecklenburg Co., NC. I have seen where some people have submited trees of
Polly Washam 28 July 1827 and her daughter Mary Christian Parnel b Aug 1874. Have you found Polly in any census?

Larry Washam
larrywasham@yahoo.com
I looked under ancestry world tree project: Southern Relations. Found Sarah Elizabeth Osborne Washum. Went back on some of her family and forward. Found Rhoda Washum. Under her name was listed as spouse, Jasper N. Reynolds,b:1877 d: after 1920. Then Leslie Jump. I asked my mother who confirmed that his name was Jasper. Said that my ggrandmother used to say, that he went to the outhouse and the pigs ate him. Then said she seen him later in another town with another women.
