Josiah Warne's (father john Warne-mother Elizabeth Harris Warne) mother
Elizabeth Harris Warne moved to Coedpoeth, New South Wales. Did any of her
children ever live there. Just wonder why she moved so far away from Devon,
England. Does anyone have her death record? Josiah moved to U S around 1867.
Elizabeth died much later.

My father was Dale Arlo Warne, his father was Charles Edward Warne, his father was William Henry Warne, and his father was John Blake Warne who married Jane George.
It sounds like you are tracing to the Warnes of New Jersey. My ancestors emigrated from Cornwall, I'm guessing through Nova Scotia and down the North side of the Great Lakes, through Cobourg, Ontario, Canada, where William Henry was born in 1841, and into the tin mining area near Mifflin, Wisconsin.
I have not encountered any of the names you have mentioned.
Good hunting!
Garry

The family of Stephen Warne and Katherine Triplett
In his book, A Genealogy of the Warne family in America: principally the descendants of Thomas Warne, born 1652, died 1722, one of the twenty-four proprietors of East New Jersey (Google eBook, author George Warne Labaw, publ. Frank Allaben Genealogical Co., 1911, see pp.41-44), Labaw leans toward the suggestion that the mother of Thomas Warne was Katherine, the sister of a Dr. Thomas Triplett who was sub dean of Westminster Abbey when he died in 1670. Dr. Triplett named as his heirs his sister Mrs. Katherine Warne and her three children, then living in Ireland. He also urged her to have the children baptized.

I ran across this family while looking for a Quaker woman named Sarah Haywood born about 1680 probably to a John Haywood/Heywood and married in 1700 in Philadelphia. I am still not at all sure that the Sarah Haywood below is the one of my family, but I want to tell you who are Warnes what I have learned about the Warne family.

While reading the English Non-Conformist BMD records, Quaker RG-6 series, I found evidence that the three children of Stephen Warne and Katherine Triplett were Thomas Warne, Elizabeth Heywood, and Sarah Robinson. (If there was a also John born about 1654, he must have died by 1670.) From the following items of record, you can see that this is the Warne family that had been living in Ireland, and you can understand that Katherine had not baptized her children because they were Quakers. You can see that all three children became involved in the purchase of East Jersey (which was purchased by a group of Quakers including William Penn in order to provide a refuge for Scots fleeing persecution, as Pennsylvania was to be a place of refuge for Quakers.) Were the Warne children able to do this because of the inheritance they received from Dr. Triplett?

Note: The dates below are Quaker style. At this time, the year began on March 25, so the second month is April, etc.
Note: The letters "e" and "o" were written in a way that looked like "a," so some of these names transcribed as Haywood might have been written as Heywood. John Heywood the proprietor had his name spelled both ways in the records, but he signed it Heywood.

1676--First marriage of John HEYWOOD--
RG6-1338 (Register of Marriages belonging to the Monthly Meeting of Upperside, Buckinghamshire from 1664 to 1769)

"John Heywood of London Salter" and
"Elizabeth Harrison (one of the daughters of John Harrison late of Amersham in ye County of Bucks deceased)"
married 14 Dec 1676 -- "ye fourtenth day of ye tenth month of ye year [1676]...
at Amersham, Gayforeshyd...”

1677--Appears to be death of first wife---
RG6 / Piece 499 / Folio 142 (Register of Burials belonging to the Quakers of the Burying Ground in Checker Alley in Whitecross Street in London, and also in their Burying Ground in Southwark from 1661 to 1698)

"ELIZABETH HAYWOOD wife of John Haywood of Bishop’s gate Streete aged about 24 years died the 3rd of the 2nd month 1677 ... of the flux"

1679--Marriage of Elizabeth WARNE and John HEYWOOD---
RG6-1437-0 (“Register of Marriages belonging to the Quarterly Meeting of the Cities of London and Westminster, County of Middlesex and of the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey from 1658 to 1690")

“John Heywood late of London Salter now of Amersham in the County of Bucks" and
"Elizabeth Warne daughter of Stephen and Katherine Warne of the City of Westminster"
28 Aug 1679 -- "the Twenty Eighth day of the sixth month in the year 1679"
"at the Bull and Mouth near aldersgate London"
Witnesses are also listed on these marriage records, with the most prominent family members listed first. Thomas Warne was the male representative for the bride Elizabeth; and Kath: Warne and Sarah Warne were her female representatives.

Note: It was John HAYWOOD/HEYWOOD who sold 1/2 of his share of East Jersey to Thomas WARNE. See Labaw p. 18.

Births to Elizabeth and John HEYWOOD (from RG6-1407 Buckinghamshire):
Elizabeth born in Amersham in 1680;
John born in London in 1682 who died in Amersham a few months later;
Sarah born 1683/4 in Cripplegate*  (Cath: Warne was present);
John born 1686 in Amersham "son of John Heywood of London drysalter (Katherine Warne and Elisabeth Harrison were present) who died within the month (June).
They had another child David or Hannah probably born in 1690, died 1690. (I suspect a mix-up in the records.) From this time their residence is in the London parish of All Saints, Breadstreet.

Deaths (from RG-6-0331 "Register of Burials belonging to the Quarterly Meeting of London and Middlesex from 1699 to 1722"):
Elizabeth HEYWOOD, the wife of John Heywood of Breadstreet salter of London, died 18 Dec. 1699, age about 42.
Elizabeth HAYWOOD, daughter of John HAYWOOD of Breadstreet flaxman died 1705, age about 23.
John HAYWOOD flaxman of Clerkenwell [another London parish] died 1720, age about 79 -- likely to be the right one.

John HEYWOOD/HAYWOOD must have become involved in the Quaker project of this time period which aided the poor and imprisoned of London by enabling them to spin flax in their homes and prison cells for income, making him a "flaxman." Search for the Quaker Workhouse at Clerkenwell.

His daughter Elizabeth died in London as a young unmarried woman, but I have not found a trace of the daughter Sarah in England. I am trying to determine if she is the Sarah who married in Philadelphia. One or two John Haywoods did spend some time in Philadelphia. If anyone locates her in England, please let me know.

1682--marriage of Sarah WARNE and Thomas ROBINSON ---
RG6-1437-0 (“Register of Marriages belonging to the Quarterly Meeting of the Cities of London and Westminster, County of Middlesex and of the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey from 1658 to 1690")

“Thomas Robinson of the parish of Brant Broughton in Lincolnshire yeoman sonne of Thomas Robinson of ye same place yeoman deceased and Sarah Warne late of Amersam in Buckinghamshire Spinster daughter of Stephen Warne late of Dublin in Ireland Carpenter... this 6th day of ye month called April” [1682] “at Devonshire House without Byshoppsgate London”

The male representing Sarah Warne was John Heywood (her brother-in-law); females were Kath: Warne and Elizabeth Heywood (her sister).
Note: Sarah's place of residence was Amersham, where her sister, Elizabeth Heywood, lived when not in London.
Note: Ambrose Rigg sold to Thomas Robinson of Brant Broughton 1/4 of his 1/12 share of East Jersey in 1682. [For verification, see Calendar of Records in the Office of the Secretary of State1614-1703 (Google eBook), Berthold Fernow 1899, p.145.]
Use a search engine to read more about Thomas Robison of Brant Broughton.

Births to Thomas Robinson and Sarah at Brant Broughton (from RG-6-1223 Lincolnshire):
Sarah 1682/3
Ruth 1683/4
Thomas 1686
Joseph 1688
Samuel 1690
Hannah 1693

1686 -- Death of Katherine WARNE
RG6-0499 "Register of Burials belonging to the Quakers of the Burying Ground in Checker Alley in Whitecross Street in London, and also in their Burying Ground in Southwark from 1661 to 1698"
Catherine WARNE of Cripplegate* Parish died 21, 2mo. 1686 [in our terms, 21 April 1686] "of a dropsy," age about 74 years.
She apparently did not go to East Jersey with Steven and Thomas, nor did she die in Dublin.

The Non-Conformist BMD RG-6 records are in the The National Archives (UK).
They can be viewed on microfilm through LDS Family History Centers or viewed on line for a fee.

Selinda Grace Warne Solberg

I have a bit of a mystery. In tracing my Solberg line I discovered my great grandfather had a first wife most of the family was not aware of. What complicates my quest in finding information on the first wife is that her middle name, and my Great grandmothers first name are the same and they both went by it.

I am looking for information On:
Selinda Grace Warne
Born in either 1891 or 1892 in Michigan
Married Philip Oscar Solberg on 2/17/1910 in Pennington County South Dakota.

In the 1910 census, Selinda is listed as Grace. By 1920, Philip is listed as Widowed but on his marriage license application (1923) for my Great Grandmother Grace Naomi, is listed as divorced.

I would really like to know what happened to Selinda and if there were any children born of this marriage.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

I would like to learn about the family of Rev. John Warne. He was born in 1800 and died in 1836. He was my great great grandfather and I have a number of items that belonged to him. He was at Harrow School and then went to Trinity College Cambridge. He married Elizabeth Acraman whose family were ships chandlers in Bristol. The Mais family had sugar plantations in Jamaica. I have always assumed that the Warne family were in shipping but I have no evidence that they were apart from some pencil drawings of ships in the early 1800s. I would be most grateful for any light that you can shed on John Warne's family. Before he died he was a Minor Canon at Exeter Cathedral.

On behalf of everyone I thank you Phil for the time you put into answering our queries. Would it be possible for you to provide some info on Thomas Warne born in 1731, presumedly in England.I do not know his wife but I believe his son's name was Richad Warne born 1760 in Roche,England. He was married to Joan Highman - born 3rd August,1768 in England. They were married on 17th October,1790. My line of limited research ends with Thomas so I appreciate any relevant info.

Thanks Helen
