On Ancestry.com, The Wilkinson Family Tree, I have posted a photograph of the Wardlow family taken late 1897. The photograph includes James and Lucy Catherine (Jarman) Wardlow and their four oldest children; Annie, Dila, Ruth and Lester. The photograph originally belonged to Lucy's brother, William Washington Jarman.
The 1880 Census Saline Co., MO enumerates Lucy and her parents but the surname is spelled incorrectly. Her parents were Josiah Thomas and Luvisa Ann (Tindle) Jarman.
1880 Census Saline Co., MO., Salt Pond
Garman, J. T., 42, KY, NC, NC, (Josiah Thomas Jarman)
L. A., 32, MO (Luvisa Ann Jarman)
Thomas H., 16, son, MO (Thomas Hartwell Jarman)
L.C., 14, dau, MO (Lucy Catherine Jarman)
Lucy, 13, dau, MO (Lucy Jarman - AGAIN?)
W.B., 11, son, MO (William Washington Jarman)
L.F., 8, dau, MO (Laura Frances Jarman
John M. 6, son, MO (John M. Jarman - died young)
I feel it is likely that James and Lucy were married in Saline County but I have not found their marriage record. Per census records they would have been married about 1897. If this marriage record has been found I would greatly appreciate knowing when and where they were married.
I'm also seeking information on the death and burial of James and Lucy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Judith A.
Christi,

Good to hear from you again. I have been told that there is a book by Hugh Conway Browning titled “The Families of Hugh and James Cain” and that in the book, Benjamin Browning is listed as one of 4 children of William BROWNING and Susannah CANNON. I have not obtained a copy of the book to verify this information but Hugh Browning appears to have written several things about his family in Orange Co, NC. All 4 children were born in Pitt Co, NC and later moved to Orange Co, NC after William lost his farm. The other siblings were Susannah (b 1806; d 21Dec1882; m Anthony COLE 16Sep1822), Artelia (b 1811; m Irby RHEW 29Jun1831) and Alvin (b 1815; m Elizabeth Louisia RHEW 04Mar1835). Benjamin (b 1813) married Mary Ann HORN 26Jan1833. All 4 siblings were married in Orange Co, NC and Anthony COLE was the bondsman for Benjamin & Mary Ann's marriage. I do not have any additional information on William BROWNING or Susannah CANNON but have a fair amount on the spouses of their children. The other 3 children stayed in Orange Co, NC when our line left for McNairy Co, TN. I do not know what happened to Benjamin but I suspect he died and Mary Ann moved to McNairy Co, TN to be near her brother David HORN or they both moved to TN and Benjamin died there. Mary Ann is living with her brother David on the 1870 McNairy Co, TN census.
I have never seen a middle initial for Benjamin. Where did you find that his was F and do you know what his middle name was? Hope to hear from you soon.
Bill Browning

Hi Christi,
My wife's line descends from James Allen Wardlow (1807-1865) of McNairy County TN who married Eliza Mickey Milligan. They moved to what is now Morris County TX in 1837. I believe this line came to Tennessee from Rockingham County, NC. There was another line of Wardlows in the area, also out of the Rockingham area and they appear to be distant cousins of my line.
Can you give me the birth and death dates for your Mary Ann Horn and Benjamin Browning
Cheers, Fred

Hi Bill,

We haven't corresponded in some time, but my gg.grandmother was Ursula Adeline Browning, a likely daughter of Benjamin F. Browning and Mary Ann Horn. I see you show Benjamin's parents to be William Browning (c1788) and Susannah Cannon.
Could you share your source with me as to them being Benjamin's parents?
Also, wondering if what you might know of Susannah Cannon? I have another Cannon connection in McNairy Co., TN. My ggg.grandmother was Louisa Cannon b.1803, the daughter of Pugh Cannon, b.c1759-61 in Craven Co., NC. He was a Rev. War vet, and found living in his daughter Louisa and her husband's (Terrell Sweat) home in 1840 in McNairy Co.
Pugh Cannon was shown to be age 80 (going on memory on his exact age), and listed by name in the column asking if any Rev. War Pensioners lived in the home.
Just wondering if there might be a connection bwt. Susannah's "Cannon" family and my Cannon family.

Thanks,
Christi Partee
christip2@cox.net

My ggg.grandfather was John Wardlow (the husband of Nancy Jane Horn), however she was not my ggg.grandmother.
Also, my gg.grandmother was Ursula Adeline Browning, daughter of Mary Ann Horn and Benjamin Browning, and the Horn line (both Redding and Whitaker).
Feel free to email me at christip2@cox.net
Christi

Caroyln, I do have some documents on James Thomas. I forgot to tell you that in the last reply. I have some info on the Bates to, but not as much as the Hollidays. I Think I have a marriage record for James T. also. I will check for you. I also forgot to tell you I have pics of 3 of John C. Hollidays children plus a lot of pics of his grandkids that I was fortunate enough to receive from another Holliday researcher. I have also solved the mystery of Sarah Jane Holliday being born at the Hermatige Plantation! I have found many stories from people about the Hollidays and even found one of Jake and Fannies GRANDSONS still living and keep in touch with him almost daily! I probably can go back and find a researcher or two who is in James T.'s line for you, as I have talked with many people during my research!

Hope to hear from you soon!
AnitaHolliday Bienvenu
anitabienvenu@yahoo.com

Lynn,

I don't know if you saw I replyed to your post about who John Q. Holliday was married to. I was not trying to sound smart or anything! I have been researching the Hollidays for a while now and have a lot of documentation on them. I am a Holliday by birth and John Q. is my 3rd great grandfather. Some of the people who have posted things ( not only about the Hollidays, but other families as well!) don't bother to verify what they post! I will share what I have if you like. I have found (after 4 years of searching) when and were John Q. and his 3rd wife died and are buried! The date of June 11, 1900 is not even close! It turns out that date is the date of the last census record that lists John's son Newell, with his 3rd wife Sarah! I have copies of death and funeral documents from when John died. I have some pics to share as well. I have 2 pics of John Q., one is a painting and the other a regular photo. I have pics that another Holliday relative shared with me of John Christmas's Children and grandchildren, A pic of Jacob Parker Holliday and all his and Fannie Wardlows' children as well as a few others. Hope to hear from you or anyone else who reads this who may be a "long lost relative"! Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,
Anita
anitabienvenu@yahoo.com
a.adreane.b@sbcglobal.net

Robert P. Wardlow

I am the ggranddaughter of Robert P. Wardlow. He was married to Annie Wardlow. He lived in San Antonio, Texas in 1905 and was a cooper (barrel maker) at the Lone Star Brewery. They had a child, my grandmother Alma around 1905. I traced them to Houston, Texas in 1908-09 from a directory. Annie was listed as a widow in the 1910-11 Houston directory. Alma was given up for adoption shortly upon her fathers death. I am searching for information on Robert, such as where he came from and when. Annie was of hispanic or American Indian descent and would like to know the same about her as well. I believe Annie might have remarried or died in the Houston Texas area between the 1920's and 1930's. I would also like to know if anyone can look up a 1895 Iowa state census for a Robert P. Wardlow and other family members in Davis County. shannon

Cason area & cemetery

Hi! I've been trying to confirm POD for my grt.grandpa, Asbury D. CASON. His aging sister told me that he died "somewhere near New Salam, TX". I was told of an old cemetery a short distance from New Salam, but it had been badly vandelized, and apparently there were 15 unmarked graves. I would be interested in hearing anything you know about Cason settlemet an nearby graves.
Thanks.
Maxine E. Cason
