Would like to hear from other descendants of Walters in the USA.... what era they emigrated, their country of origin, and what state or colony did they first emigrate to?

My family has a debate on whether our line of Walters is German or English.
This would be a group of Walters known to be in the Shenandoah Valley in the mid-1700's....
Some say they came during Revolutionary War era from Germany and the surname changed from Waltermire to Walters. Others of the same line claim the origin is English. Most of this is based on oral histories and biographies written about later generations of the Shenandoah Walters when they moved on to other parts of the country.

Where did YOUR Walters originate?! Please include details of when and where they first settled, if possible. Could be fun to compare oral histories.
