I am interested in contacting or gaining information on the descendants of James Walle, born approx 1825, who emmigrated from Bavaria to Iowa/Missouri. He and his wife are buried a cemetery in Page County, Iowa, just across the border from Atchison County, Missouri. I will provide below the information I have on this family.

Descendants of James Walle

Generation No. 1

1. JAMES1 WALLE was born Abt. 1825 in Baveria. He married ELIZA (MAIDEN NAME UNKNOWN) WALLE. She was born March 1822 in Ohio, and died April 28, 1889.

2. ANNA2 WALLE (JAMES1)1 was born Abt. 1860 in Iowa or Illinois, and died Aft. 1930. She married EUGENE F. MERRITT2 18813, son of NAPOLEON MERRITT and JENNIE HOLMAN. He was born 1858 in Minnesota, and died March 04, 1935 in Duluth, St. Louis County, Minnesota4.

Notes for ANNA WALLE:
Mrs. Anna Walle Merritt's parents, James and Eliza Walle, are buried at the Blanchard Cemetery in Page County, Iowa. Their family name is spelled "Walle" on the Cemetery records. Therefore, that spelling has been used consistently in this report, including the spelling of the first name of Eugene and Anna's son, Walle Merritt.

Anna Merritt was reported on the 1930 Federal Census as living with her daughter, Mrs. Caroline Merritt Royal, as part of her family residence in Aurora, Erie County, New York.

Census - 1920: Age 59, Sylvan, Multnomah County, Oregon

Notes for EUGENE F. MERRITT:
Eugene's name has been reported as Eugene T. Merritt and Eugene F. Merritt. The St. Louis County Minn. Death Index lists his name as Eugene T. Merritt.

Eugene lived in Blanchard County, Iowa/Atchison County, Missouri from the late 1870s to the mid-1880s and at least two of his sons were born in Missouri. The 1890 Duluth City Directory reported that John T. Culbertson was boarding with E.T. Merritt in Oneota. It is assumed that this was Eugene T. Merritt. John Culbertson was the son of Polly Jane (Merritt) Culbertson and a nephew of Lewis Howell Merritt.

Eugene and Anna Merritt were listed in the 1920 Federal Census as living in Sylvan, Multnomah County, Oregon, where he was employed as a carpenter. Sylvan is a suburb located southwest of downtown Portland.

Notes for WALLE W. MERRITT:
There is a record in the Texas Land Title Abstracts that a "Walle" Merritt surveyed seven acres in Chambers County, Texas that were sold to a third party in 1931.

Some researchers have also reported Walle's name as Wallie W. Merritt. It is not known with certainty which first name is correct (RMM).
