To update my Aug 2001 post:

I have received information that Hugh was the son of Morning WALLACE and Tabitha CURRENT. The story about his being found under a berry bush turns out to be the family myth. ALtho his son's death cert says he was born in Scotland, he was probably born in North Carolina.

Still seeking information on his wife, Sarah, who was also probably born in North Carolina. By 1870 he was living in Barborville, Knox Countyy, KY, with his wife and son and two daughters. In 1880 he is found in Laurel County, Kentucky with his two married daughters. At this time his son is on the way to Oregon, and Sarah has apparently passed.

Thanks

I am interested in the North Carolina Wallace clan. A Thomas Wallace who married a Mary. My Charles W. Wallace was born in Elbert Co., GA abt 1820 ish according to his toombstone in Clarke Co., GA. Later I found Thomas and Mary an aged couple living in this area also. I have a Jesse Gren (Green) Wallace who married Candice (Cantis) Lord in Clarke Co., GA.

Any email contact you can share I will appreciate.

Susan,
I have been interested in this family for some time. My most perplexing brick wall is my gg-grandfather Milas D. Wallace (1833-1927)who lived after 1860 in Anderson Co., TN. Before that I believe he was in NC. I wonder if he is the Milus Wallace born to this family in 1835. He was a blacksmith (like Morning Wallace)and named his first child Tabitha (like Tabitha Currant Wallace). One source says his middle name was Dobbins. I have found a Milas Dobbins and family in Iredell Co. Do you know of anything else that might link these people together or prove they're not related?
Thanks,
Polly Olson

I too am interested in this line of Wallace's. I believe my gg-grandfather to be Richard Wallace, son of the noted Morning Wallace though until recently I only saw him noted as Wanning in the 1850 census. If anyone has any information they wouldn't mind sharing about Morning and his son Richard (especially after his marriage to Catherine Warren) I would greatly appreciate it. I have been chipping away at this brick wall for years now and I am ready for a little break through.
Thank you.

Apologies to all who posted to this thread -- I did not receive notification and have been working on a different line. Hugh's father's name has been given as Mourning, Morning and Warren. I am going to be in the East this summer and will try to find the wills for him and his father, John Allen Wallace. This thread has been added to my notifications again, and I will try to keep up this time. 8-)
