YOUNGSTOWN - On Thursday (May 2015) evening, God sent his angels to visit the hospital room of Pastor Walter Lee Walker, 78, to exchange his earthly clothes for his heavenly robe.“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” (Matthew 25:23) E
lder Walker was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Montgomery, Alabama, a son of Elijah and Sovilla Sewell Walker.
He was a 1954 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Campbell, Ohio. (Mahoning County)
He had been employed as a construction worker with Ben Rudick and Shutrump Construction Companies and as an inspector in the paint division at General Motors Lordstown, Ohio, retiring in 2002. He was a member of UAW Union, Local 1112.
In the past, he had ministered at the Faith Temple Baptist Church and the Church of Hope.
A member of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Walker served as an elder and the assistant pastor since 1994. He was a worshipper and intercessor, a member of the Baptist Pastors Council of Youngstown, and Eastern Ohio Baptist Association.
He was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, American Baptist Theological Seminary, and Central Bible College in Cleveland, Ohio. He had traveled to Israel, enjoyed singing, and was known for his “walker shuffle.”
He leaves to mourn his passing, but rejoice in his eternal peace, four daughters, Evangelist Lawanna L. (Eugene Jr.) Walker-Lockett, Elder Darlene A. (Deacon William) Brown, and Brenda J. Walker-Townsel, all of Youngstown, and Dara M. Walker of Columbus, Ohio; stepsons Norman (Sabrina) Francis of Youngstown, Ohio, Pastor Bruce (Joy) Francis of Atlanta, and Jackie Kimble of Thomasville, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; six great-granddaughters; the mother of his daughters, Josephine E. Smith-Walker; and a host of loving family, church family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Rosa L. Ellis, whom he married March 10, 1973, and who passed away May 29, 2007; a daughter, Angela N. Walker; two sisters, Ethel Anderson and Lucille Parker; two brothers, Roosevelt and Willie Walker; and a grandson, Deonta Lozada Walker.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, promptly at 11 a.m.
