Mrs. Mamie Parker Walker, age 97, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at The McDowell Hospital. Mrs. Walker was born in McDowell County on June 1, 1910 and was the daughter of the late William Thomas Parker and Mattie Lee Davis Parker. She retired from Cross Cotton Mill and she was the oldest living member of Glenwood Baptist Church. Her family will remember her as a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her husband, James Albert Walker, three grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers, preceded her in death. Left to cherish Mrs. Walker's memory are three children: Charles D. Walker and wife Betty of Ocala, Florida, Lewis L. Walker and wife Barbara of Charlotte, N.C. and Mary Jo Aldredge and husband Carl of Glenwood; five grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Glenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Brewer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2-3 p.m., at the church. Interment will be in McDowell Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Glenwood Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 218 Glenwood, N.C. 28737.
