"Warren" and "Clinton" county--what state(s)? I have information on Wacks that were living in Denver, CO, around WW II. Louise Babette Wack married my Uncle Wes. One of the Wack line and I have recently established contact. If you're interested, let me know. I have no information on any adoptions, but Dorothy, Richard, and Louise (my Aunt Betty) might have information in their background(s) that would help you along the way. Dorothy was married and lived in Omaha all the time I was growing up. Betty m. Wes in Miami, but they lived elsewhere. Wes died in OR; Betty in CO. She was an artist.

I am trying to do my fiance's family tree as a wedding present and am hitting a road block with his Biological Mother. We know very little information about her the family has lived in Warren and Clinton counties extentively. Her name was Janet Eliane Pottorf(f), she died in 1997, she has (had) a sister named Connie. And was married to Terry Yeazel and divorced in the late 70's. Her death certificate lists her mother's maiden name as Wack(s) but I'm not sure that isn't a typo. Any help would be greatly appreciated with what the Wack connection may be.

Looking for ancestors of Mary Wack who died 9 March 1826 "aged 26 years 10 months 12 days" and is buried in the Old Presbyterian Cemetery in Hackettstown, New Jersey. the Gulick book says she was born 1804 but from her headstone, she must have been born in 1799?

Anyway Mary Wack married Derrick Gulick in 1822. They had one child, Jacob W Gulick born in 1823. Derrick later married Joanna Pool (1828) and had several children.

Thanks.

Kathi in western Colorado

I'm afraid I would not be of much help. I've recently looked Robert up again (he had the original site) and secured the gedcom file that he had created. His branch doesn't cross mine (though I'm sure they would if I could go back far enough). If you like I can send you the file.
-Chuck

You're response to my query more than a year ago came while I was on vacation and then, I'm afraid got put in one of those computer equivalents of the paper piles we all used to (still?) have until I had time to get to it, and then, I'm afraid was forgotten.

I'm the gg grandson of Barbe Wack (1807-1839) and Nicolas Gambs (1807-1886). If you have that gedcom file, what I'm interested in a pedigree chart for Barbe Wack. I took quite a bit of info when it was on line, but now see some problems that I'm trying to resolve and want to see if I miscopied it.

Carl Gambs

Across the river from St. Louis is Belleville, IL and there were many Shuberts/Schuberts who moved there from St. Louis. Most of these Shuberts were Catholic and there records are on-line with Ancestry. Belleville (St. Clair County) has an excellent genealogy society that is housed in the county library. They house the old newspapers from East St. Louis, IL, Belleville, and some from Madison County. Belleville was almost entirely German and is my home town. Good luck on your research.

Hi,
I used this page too for information about relatives abroad. Now I have a question. The coat of arms for the WACK in America seems to be different from the German one. How come? We have a herald with a javelin and in the US pages they show a cross (with 3 crosses) on a boat or so. I looked up the page from former www.qis.net and there it also has our German coat of arms.
I am also still looking for a Ludwig Wack (son of Michael Wack born 1798 and Barbara Kessler born 1792, brother of Paul Wack born 5.7.1835). It is said that he went to America and was never heard of again.

hi mark....here its almost 2005 and i am just seeing your reply to me from search back in 2001. it didnt come through email but it just appeared on my screen when i was putting in something else about the name wack. my husband's grandfather was named charles e. wack. when my husband's father was little, charles disappeared and the grandmother would not talk about him. of course, the grandmother is no longer living so we cant get any more info. they were divorced and i have those papers...they lived in tuckerton, nj and he was some kind of employee on cruise liners...my father in law would be at least 98 years old now so that would make his father, charles even older. funny about your name...i have a nephew named john...from virginia. thanks...susan please respond to my email address as i will never find this sight again!!!

not related - for your info only

Wack, Charles and Edith

In Loving Memory of CHARLES & EDITH WACK After a brief illness, on August 22, 2007, Edith is with her beloved Charlie who passed on 0ctober 1, 2006. Edith moved from her home of 46 years in Whittier, Ca to Big Bear in March of this year, to be closer to her family. Charles & Edith were happily married for 63 years. They are survived by their children Nancy & Daniel Grossberg of Big Bear, Charles Jr. & Brigitte Wack of Schauenstein, Germany & William & Susan Wack of Clayton, North Carolina. They are also s urvived by [11] Grandchildren and [3] Great Grandchildren. Charlie served as a 1st Lieutenant in General George Patton's 3rd Army in WW II. After returning home from the war, Charlie started his 40 year career as a Field Engineer with RCA Corporation, where in the early 1950's he was responsible for the deployment of the first color TV sets for residential use in the US. Charlie retired to his home and his wife Edith. He continued to be active as a Reserve Sherriff for the Los Angeles County Criminal Fraud & Forgery Division in Whittier. Edith was a homemaker for 63 years and still found time for her 20 year career with the Broadway Department Store in Whittier. She was a faithful volunteer for over 30 years at the Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier. She was an avid walker. She loved her cat Lucy with "All Her Heart" as she would say.Charlie & Edith were separated briefly at the end of their 63 year journey on this Earth and are now together again, may they rest in peace. Family and friends will gather togethe r on September 1, 2007 in Big Bear City to celebrate their journey through life. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Presbyterian Hospital of Whittier or the Humane Society in their honor.
Published in the Whittier Daily News on 8/29/2007.
Wack family tree on line

please send me your email address; mine is blteague@juno.com After reading your inquiry, I did further research. One of my uncles in W.Vir. and a cousin in Maryland put up a web site for Wacks that goes back many hundreds of years. Danie and Rene are there....along with 19,000 others we are related to. It tells who married whom and their childrens' names. It is www.qis.net/rwack/index.html this will get you to the index of all the names but there is a faster/better one only I'm not sure how to get to it directly; I think I just put in www.qis.net/rwack Good luck. Hope to hear from you at my email address. The Recher name is not in the list. Can you tell me about that name...is it your married name? We'll have to see that y'all get added to the on-line family tree.

I have sent you an email at the address frank.ulrich@mageos.com Please let me know if you received it. If you didn't receive it, this is essentially what I wrote: jean george (1808-1870) had five children..the oldest son, Jean 1841-1951(your great great grandfather)was the brother of my great grandfather Jean Pierre (1854-1932). That means my grandfather (Carl Joseph) and your great granfather Daniel were cousins....my mother and your grandfather are second cousins....and your dad is my third cousin. My great grandfather (Jean Pierre) was the youngest of Jean George's sons and he was the only one of the children to come to the United States. He had several children...one was Carl Joseph (my grandfather) who had 12 children (one was my mother Mary Catherine) and most of them had anywhere from 3 to 8 children. So, as you can see, you have many many relatives in the United States. I hope my email gets to you.

Friedrich Wilhelm Wack (Wax or Wachs)

I'm looking for information regarding Friedrich Wilhelm Wack (alternative spellings include Wax or Wachs). He was born 8-3-1830 to Jacob Wack and Catharina Brueck in Prussia Rheinland. He came to America on 3-28-1854 and worked as a printer. He was living in Evansville, Indiana in 1870 where he owned a bookstore. He was married to Fredricka Catherine Hooge. We have no record of him after 1870. Does anyone know what happened to him or if he had brothers and sisters?
