Fredericka Wachter

I'm looking for the parents of Fredericka (Fredericke) Wachter married to Frank J. Merker. Fredericka was born Aug. 23, 1866 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her dad was John Wachter born in Germany. The earliest record I can find for Fredericka is the 1900 Census. She is married to Frank J. Merker and lives in Chicago, Cook, IL. I have information from here forward. I found her dad's name on her death record but I have never been able to find anymore about her parents or her birth. I've looked for years and was hopeful that someone on this board might help.

passed away Friday, July 15, 2011
at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on July 14, 1950 to the late Frederick and Lois O'Hara Wachter. George,
a Certified Public Accountant and founding partner of DeMarco Wachter & Co, was a 1968 graduate of Cathedral Prep and earned a BS in accounting from Gannon University in 1972. George began his career in accounting with Norman J. Curti and Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in Cleveland. Previously, he was an accounting instructor with Gannon University. George was a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Management Accountants and the AICPA Tax Division. George received several awards for his work in the community including the 2001 U.S. Small Business Administration Award and 2003 Professional Business Services of the Year from the Gannon Small Business Development Center. George served on several local nonprofit boards and was a member of the Erie Club and Erie Yacht Club. He had a great love for his "Wingtips" â€" both the shoes and his boat.
George is survived
by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca Hermonsky Wachter
and their children Carolyn Wachter Stone and her husband Mark of Baltimore Md., Dave Wachter and his wife Emily and Patrick Wachter of Pittsburgh; brothers Frederick, Charles, Joe, Richard and wife Mary Beth and his sister Anne and husband James Barr; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Kathie and Fred Hintenach of Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews. His loving heart and quick sense of humor will be forever missed. Friends may visit with family at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 4 pm and 7 p.m. to 9 pm. A service will be held at St. George Catholic Church on Monday, July 18th at 12 noon. Burial services will be private. Illness Fatal to Robert C. Wachter

Former Cameron Resident Dies at Home in Town of Rock

Illness of several months duration resulted Sunday in the death of Robert Carl Wachter, 68, at his home on Route 1, where he had been confined to his bed for the past seven weeks.
The body will lie in state at the Seehafer-Hansen funeral home on West Fifth street Wednesday afternoon, when a brief service will be held at 1:30 o'clock before removing it to St. Matthew's Lutheran church, west of Klondike, where services will be held at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery. The Rev. A. M. Egge will officiate.
Pallbearers will include Charles Frederick of Stratford, Peter Mrotek, Edmund Bruhn, Joseph Reigel, Severn Hagen, and John Doine. The casket will not be opened in the church, and friends who wish to view the body may do so at the funeral home.
Mr. Wachter was born Aug. 30, 1863, near Lomira, Dodge county, and grew to manhood in the community of his birth. He was married Dec. 29, 1896, at the home of his parents to Miss Clara Zimmel of Nenno, Washington county, and they made their home in Theresa until 1917, when they purchased a farm in the town of Cameron, on highway 10.
Two years ago they turned over the management of the home farm to their oldest son, Oscar, and moved to the former Olson farm, in the town of Rock, south of the Yellow River cheese factory, which they purchased, and on which they since resided.
Surviving, besides the widow and son mentioned, are two daughters, Mrs. William Fleischman (Hildegarde), town of Richfield, and Mrs. Henry Krueger (Norma), town of Cameron, and a son, Vernon, at home. Another son, Victor, died in infancy. Mr. Wachter also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Musch of Lennox, S. D. and Mrs. Fred Opplinger, Lomira, and two brothers, Carl of Lomira and Louis of Theresa.

Oscar J. Wachter, 73, of 714 E. Ninth St., died Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a heart attack.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Eldore Messerschmidt, pastor, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The body will be cremated and burial will take place at a later date.
There will be no visitation. The Hansen Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wachter was born Aug. 25, 1904 in Theresa where he attended schools. He moved to Marshfield with his family in 1917, settling on a farm in the town of Cameron. On Oct. 7, 1930, he married Helen Bein in Wisconsin Rapids.
They farmed in the town of Cameron until 1956 when they moved to Marshfield. He was a carpenter from 1956 until his death. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife; one son, John of Marshfield; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Vernon of Wisconsin Rapids; and one sister, Mrs. Harry (Norma) Krueger, Marshfield. He was predeceased by one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be designated to the Heart Fund.

Prominent Falls Man Passed Away Tuesday Evening

A. A. Wachter, a well known and respected citizen of Sheboygan Falls, passed away yesterday evening at 5 o’clock. He was born Nov. 1, 1840, in Guestebriese, Brandenburg, Germany, and came with his parents to this country in 1852. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 78 years and 26 days.
In 1862 he enlisted in the U. S. army and served his country’s cause two years and ten months. He was a member of Co. I, 27th regiment, Wisconsin volunteers. He participated in the siege of Vicksburg and witnesses its capitalization. On Dec. 20, 1865, he received his honorable discharge.
Mr. Wachter was married to Miss A. S. Fiedler of St. Paul, Minn., in 1868, this union was blessed with eight children. His wife preceded him in death a little over four years ago.
Prior to the opening of a general store, the deceased was a mason contractor erecting some of the buildings in Sheboygan Falls and vicinity. Mr. Wachter retired from business January 1, 1899, turning all affairs over to his two sons, Charles and Adolph, the business now being successfully conducted under the name of Wachter Bros.
Decedent always took an active interest in civil affairs, being president of Sheboygan Falls when it still was a village and twice assessor. He was a faithful and active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church, when the congregation decided on a new edifice, Mr. Wachter was unanimously elected as a member of the building committee and superintended while the building was under construction.
He is survived by eight children, twelve grandchildren, one sister and a large circle of friends. The children are: Mrs. Ernest Roehl, Charles, Adolph and Theodore, Sheboygan Falls; Mrs. William Roehl, Manitowoc, Mrs. Ernst Fiedler, St. Paul, Minn.; Gustav, residing near Madison and Louis of Milwaukee. His sister, Mrs. Rosa Zimpleman, resides in Eagle River.
The death of Mr. Wachter removes from this life a man who enjoyed the confidence and esteem of those with whom he was acquainted. A true Christian, his worth was felt when the new edifice was erected in the Falls. Though old in years, he entered into this work with that old time vigor of youth and the happiest hour of his life was when the church was completed and dedicated.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Rev. John Biehusen officiating. According to his wish his sons, Charles, August, Louis, Adolph, Theodore, and his son-on-law, Ernest Roehl will act as pallbearers.

Pioneer Laid to Rest at the Falls

The funeral services attending the burial of A. A. Wachter, were held from St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Sheboygan Falls, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Biehusen officiating. The edifice was filled with friends who had gathered there to pay their final tribute of respect and esteem. It was fitting that the services should be held from this church, inasmuch as it was erected under the supervision of Mr. Wachter, who acted as chairman of the building committee and supervising architect. It was a proud day for him when the church was dedicated. Rev. Biehusen preached a sermon, glowing with words of tribute and forcibly dealing with the christian character of the deceased.

Louis A. Wachter, 78, of R. 4, Sheboygan, died late Saturday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been a patient since Friday.

He was born Feb. 7, 1875 at Sheboygan Falls, a son of the late A. A. and Anna Selma Wachter. He attended the Lutheran parochial and public schools in Sheboygan Falls and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

He was a carpenter, but also worked at various other trades.

For the past 20 years he has resided in the Sheboygan area.

Never having married, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. P. (Marie) Fiedler of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. William (Anna) Roehl of Manitowoc, and nephews and nieces in this area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dean Funeral home, Sheboygan Falls, with the Rev. Edward W. Albertine, pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sheboygan Falls cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dean Funeral home from 2 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services Wednesday.

Funeral services for Louis A. Wachter, 78, of R. 4, Sheboygan, who died the past Saturday at St. Nicholas Hospital, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Dean Funeral home, Sheboygan Falls. The Rev. Edward W. Albertin, pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial took place in the Sheboygan Falls cemetery.

During the services Edward Meissner sang two hymns, “Abide With Me” and “Just As I Am”. He played his own organ accompaniment.

Pallbearers included Milford, Claud, Roland, and Delmore Wachter, and Arno and Arthur Roehl, all nephews of the deceased.

Charles A. Wachter Of Falls Is Summoned Here Saturday

Sheboygan Falls. – Charles A. Wachter, 75, of 213 Pine Street, Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Saturday at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan.

The deceased was born in Sheboygan Falls on May 16, 1869, the son of Adolph and Selma Wachter. As a young man he learned the grocery business from his father, and in 1898 he entered a partnership with his brother, Adolph, in a business known as the Wachter Bros. Grocery Store. In 1921 they sold their business. Mr. Wachter became a salesman for the Quality Biscuit Company of Milwaukee. In 1923 he became associated with the H. C. Prange company. He continued in the employe of that company until 1940 when he retired because of ill health.

He served the community of Sheboygan Falls as one of the first members of the Public Utility Board. For seven years he was church organist for St. Paul’s Lutheran church. On Oct. 22, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Lena Senglaub by the late Rev. J. Hieber. In 1943 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Among the survivors are his wife, three brothers and two sisters, they are: Theodore Wachter, Sheboygan Falls; Louis Wachter of Sheboygan; August Wachter of Milwaukee; Mrs. Marie Fiedler, St. Paul, Minn.; and Mrs. Anna Roehl, Manitowoc. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 at the Dean Funeral home in Sheboygan Falls and at 2 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran church. The Rev. Edward Albertin will officiate and burial will be made in the Sheboygan Falls cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday noon until the time of services. The casket will not be opened at the church.

I should clarify now... this friend of mine was told his Wachter family was from Alsace-Lorraine, but my research is revealing that they were actually from Bavaria. I suspect that someone who married in, etc., was from A-L. Thanks for trying to help.

My 2nd great grandmother, Amelia Wachter Beilstein, states in the census her father was born in Alsace-Lorraine, her mother, Germany. Read the history that Alsace and Lorraine is actually two areas, Prussian War, etc... I just started research on this branch.

She was born in OH but moved to PA and married at 19 to a Beilstein. I do not know who her parents were at this point. Interested in finding her father and mother. I have picture of her in my tree if interested.

Of course, any leads would be great.

Yes, I believe that is my line. I have estimated that his name was John George when he arrived with his father, Conrad, a shoemaker. Conrad's wife's name is Anna. A William Wachter arrived at the same time and think he is related as well.

Almina (minnie) was born 1828
Apparently they had a pottery shop in New York
and Minne married PJ Weisensee at the reformed German church in New York in 1848

I am Brian, Lorna's husband.
William Wachter (Wilhelm Waechter) was also my great-grandfather. My grandfather was Henry Leonard Wachter a younger brother of Rosanna.
Since Lorna's posting in 2001 I have found information about William's wife Emma (nee Smith) and have also been trying to discover more about William in Germany before he came to England. I have had some success but none of my info has yet been proven. I recently wrote to 2 people in Germany from the town where I believe William was born and am still awaiting a reply.

-- Chas. Wachter, aged about 62 years, died at his home about two miles south of town, at 15 minutes past five o'clock P.M. on Tuesday last. Mr. Wachter was a man well thought of. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Libbie who resided at the home of her father, and Mrs. D. Crowfoot, and one son, Anthony, who also resides with his parents.

She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Allman of Town Lima where she was born June 18, 1869. Besides her parents she is survived by her husband and two sons. Interment will take place in Sheboygan Falls cemetery tomorrow afternoon. The Rev. Wildermuth of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church will officiate.

The remains of the late Mrs. August Wachter, who died at her home in Grafton on Monday arrived here Thursday and were taken to the home of his parents on Buffalo street where a short service was held at two o’clock. Henry Wachter, 79, who resided southeast of Pierce, died about noon Monday. Although his health had not been good, his death came unexpectedly.

Surviving are his wife and eleven sons and daughters, Julius W., George, Ernest, Arthur, Carl, Miss Erma, Mrs. Henry Winter and Mrs. Ed Pofahl, all of the Norfolk community; Mrs. Martin Gehm, Pierce county; Mrs. Henry Linnemann, Randolph, and Minnie, Lincoln.

Robert A. Wachter, age 84,
of Louisville, Ky., died Saturday, August 9, 2008. Throughout his life Bob loved to travel, and continued to do so after the death of his beloved wife Jeanne in 1997.
His passports document visits to over 80 nations and all seven continents,
his final excursion a two week transit of the Panama Canal in April from Santiago to Miami with his sister, Erie native Lucile Powers.
He also loved bridge, gardening, stamp collecting and was an avid and creative carpenter. Born in Erie on Valentine’s Day, 1924 as the eldest child of Charles and Catherine Wachter, he was a member of the Lawrence Park High School class of 1942. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II. The Army sent him to Hamilton College to become an Air Force meteorologist. Half way through his training they determined they had enough meteorologists and sent him to Brazil to be a radio operator for the USAAF. After the war, he attended Pennsylvania State College, where he received a B.S. degree, magna cum laude, in Industrial Engineering. He became an engineer and manager during a 44 year career with General Electric, working in Erie, Hudson Falls, N,Y. and Appliance Park in Louisville, Ky. before retiring as Manager of Manufacturing Engineering for refrigeration in 1988. He grew up in Erie, and moved to Louisville in 1965, where he was an active member of the community for the remainder of his life. Robert was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Lawrence Park and St. Bernadette’s (formerly Mother of Good Counsel) in Louisville. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troup 17 in Lawrence Park, where he was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow, led two tours of Philmont Scout Ranch with Troup 308 of Louisville, and served on the Executive Board of the Old Kentucky Home Council. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Elfun Society and numerous other charitable and service organizations, merging these interests with his love of travel through service projects with DePauw University, providing field engineering for community building projects in Peru and the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne; brother, James; sister, Betty Brown, and brother-in-law, Bob Powers, all of Erie. He is survived by sons Christopher (Ruth Ann), Daniel, James (Marcia), and Eric; sister, Lucille Powers; and grandchildren, Robert (Rivkah), Stephanie, Benjamin, Shannon, Sarah, Erin, and Michael. Friends may call on Friday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, Pa. 16502 from 2-5 and 7-9 and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:30 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Boy Scouts of America.

Russell G. Wachter, 84, of Woodman, died Friday, August 18, 2006, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 30, 1921 in Midland, South Dakota, the ninth of fifteen children born to Herman and Mertie (Kaiser) Wachter.
The Wachter family moved to Wisconsin in 1939, where Russell met the love of his life, Vera Russell. They were married March 14, 1942 at the Mount Hope Methodist Church. Together they farmed in the Woodman area for many years.
Russell also owned and did custom bulldozing from 1967 until 2004. He enjoyed his family and a good game of cards.
Surviving are four children: Dennis (Maxine) Wachter, Mount Hope; Maggie Peterson (Wayne Rider), Linden; Marilyn (James) Faulkner of Prairie du Chien and Kayla (Roger) Herbers, Woodman; eleven very special grandchildren; Jodi, Jen, Jay, Jaci, Wade, Kim, Justin, Gretchen, Callie, Micah and Mitchell; and eleven great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are three brothers, Mike Wachter, Herman (Bernadine) Wachter, Jr. and Louis (Pat) Wachter all of Woodman; three sisters, Ina England, Presho, S.D., Hazel Ellis, Glen Haven and Dorice Van Vorst, St. Paul, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Doris Ann Wachter, Fennimore, a special niece, Julie (Keith) Jolik, Bitely, Mi. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera, his parents, two sisters, Cleone Eckert and Florence Wachter, six brothers, Kelly, Clifford, Robert, Edward, Donald and Kenneth.
Services were Monday, at the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Andy Doll officiating with burial in Hermitage Cemetery in Mt. Hope Township. The Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington assisted the family.

Her parents were Joseph Wachter (b 1852 d 2Jan1912) and Francisca Huck (b. 1865 - d16 MAR 1910). Clara was one of 9 children:

I am a Great grandson of William / Emma Wachter through their daughter - Rosanna.

William married under the name Waechter 1868 Q1 Mile End 1C 897.

I have photographs of Emma and Rosanna, but none of the other Wachter siblings or William.

Barbara E Wachter (born Mar 1921) a daughter of Albert Wachter was apparently named after my mother. However, I can find no trace of her since the birth record.

I am part of the Wachter clan from Frederick County, Maryland. I come through George Wachter (who arrived in this country in 1749). George had 9 children including a son named Samuel (1780-1856). Is this your Samuel? If so, my direct lineage is through a brother, Philip, but I am willing to share the information that I do have on Philip's siblings and their families.
