George Frederick Wachter, 61
of Millcreek,Erie,co,pa,
passed away Friday, July 15, 2011
at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on July 14, 1950 to the late Frederick and Lois O'Hara Wachter. George,
a Certified Public Accountant and founding partner of DeMarco Wachter & Co, was a 1968 graduate of Cathedral Prep and earned a BS in accounting from Gannon University in 1972. George began his career in accounting with Norman J. Curti and Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in Cleveland. Previously, he was an accounting instructor with Gannon University. George was a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Management Accountants and the AICPA Tax Division. George received several awards for his work in the community including the 2001 U.S. Small Business Administration Award and 2003 Professional Business Services of the Year from the Gannon Small Business Development Center. George served on several local nonprofit boards and was a member of the Erie Club and Erie Yacht Club. He had a great love for his "Wingtips" â€" both the shoes and his boat.
George is survived
by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca Hermonsky Wachter
and their children Carolyn Wachter Stone and her husband Mark of Baltimore Md., Dave Wachter and his wife Emily and Patrick Wachter of Pittsburgh; brothers Frederick, Charles, Joe, Richard and wife Mary Beth and his sister Anne and husband James Barr; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Kathie and Fred Hintenach of Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews. His loving heart and quick sense of humor will be forever missed. Friends may visit with family at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 4 pm and 7 p.m. to 9 pm. A service will be held at St. George Catholic Church on Monday, July 18th at 12 noon. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16501.
