Surnames: Wachtel Hess Staub Walker
Try contacting Richard S. Wachtel, General Manager of WRNR-AM radio, P.O. Box 709, Martinsburg, WV 25402-0709. He is son of William Hess Wachtel (twin to Martin Luther Wachtel) who was son of Martin Luther Wachtel and Nellie Estelle Hess. Nellie's brother, Henry Hunter Hess married my great aunt and I was named Hunter in his honor (he died 1947). I visited the Hess home in the 1960's in Martinsburg. It still stands on corner of Hess and Queens, but was sold after Margaret Hess (sister to Nellie) died in 1979. My late great aunt, Eva Walker Hess (widow of Henry) had given my mother the wedding ring which belonged to Elizabeth C. Staub Hess (mother of Nellie, Henry, etc) and we recently sent it to Richard and his brother, Greg, in order to get it back into their family. I also sent a copy of all I had on the Hess and Wachtel families (mostly from sources available on the web) to Richard and requested that he send me an update on his branch. I have not yet received the update (but it has been less than a year and I am sure he is busy; and also not involved in doing any genealogical research himself).
